Installing Oracle

Oracle 11i [64-bit] is available at following location:

\\shah_rukh\Software\Oracle\64-bit\11G-64bit

Copy both zip files on your machine and extract both

of them.

Once the extraction is complete, right click on

“setup.exe” and select “Run as Administrator”

option.

Step 1: Configure Security Updates

Make sure you un-check “I wish to receive ..” & click on “Next”.

Step 2: Email Address not Specified

Click on “Yes” button.

Step 3: Select Install Option

Select “Create and Configure a database” and click on “Next”.

Step 4: System Class

Select “Desktop Class” and click on “Next”.

Step 5: Typical Install Configuration

Make following changes: – Oracle Base: C:\oracle

– Global Database Name: <Any_Name>.svg.local

– Administrative Password : Password09

– Confirm Password : Password09

Step 6: Perform Prerequisite Checks

If you get “Environment Variable “PATH” failure, click on “Ignore All”and click on “Next”.

On summary screen, click “Finish”

Once the installation is complete, click on “Close” button.

Oracle Services

• Next step is to check that Oracle Services are running or not.• Right Click on „My Computer -> Manage‟ and expand „Services

and Applications‟ and click on „Services‟. This will list all the

services that current exist on you machine.

• Look for service name starting with „Oracle*‟

• Refer to the screenshot below and make sure these services

are also running on you machine [replace „MALTQADB‟ with

the name of your DB].

TNS Entry

• Once you make sure that Oracle services are running, it‟s timeto create TNS entry for your database

• On your local machine go to following directory:

C:\oracle\product\11.2.0\db_1\NETWORK\ADMIN

• In that directory you will see „tnsname.ora‟ file. Open the file in

Notepad++ and check whether it has the entry for the database

you had created or not.

TNS Ping

• To check that your database is running, use „tnsping‟command. Open a command prompt and give following

command

tnsping matlab

• If you get „OK (0 msec)‟, it means that your database is up andyou can connect to it.

• If you get „TNS: operation timed out‟ it means either your you

are providing wrong database name after „tnsping‟ or your

database service is not running.

• Don‟t forget to replace „maltadb‟ with the name of your

database in above command

Login to Database

• Now that everything is up and running, it‟s time to connect toyour database. The command to do that is:

sqlplus <username>/<password>@<sid>

• Here, username is the database username. You can use „sys‟

or „system‟ to login first time. Password is what you specifiedin the first screen of installation [should be same as your

database name]. And SID is the name of the database. So for

us the command would be:

sqlplus system/matlabdb@matlabdb

Login to Database [Cont…] • Once you give the above command, you should the „SQL‟

prompt, otherwise check that the user name, password and SID

you have provided are correct.
