Chapter 1 Installing GSU VPN Client and DUO MFA Purpose: The purpose of this tutorial is to assist you with the installation of GSU’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) and DUO Multifactor Authentication (MFA).

PLEASE NOTE: VPN WILL NOT WORK WHILE CONNECTED TO THE GSU NETWORKS (ON CAMPUS).

Step 1 Open an Internet Browser and go https://gsuvpn.govst.edu/. Ensure the Group is FACULTY_STAFF and click Login.

Step 2 The GSU Single Sign on window will open, enter your GSU username and password and click Sign In. You will need to register for DUO, if you have already registered for DUO proceed to Step 14.

Step 3 Click Start Setup

Step 4 Click the Mobile phone radio button and click Continue.

Step 5 Enter your phone number.

Step 6 After the phone number is entered. A green check appears after the number indicating the format is correct. Review your phone number. Check the box if the number is correct. Click Continue.

Step 7 Select one of the radio buttons that indicate your phone type and click Continue.

Step 8 Now is the time to download the Duo Mobile app.

Step 9 Download the “Duo Mobile” app from the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (android).

Step 10 Now that the app is on your phone. Click I have Duo Mobile installed in the window on your computer.

Step 11 Scan the QR Code with your phone.

Step 12 A green check will appear when the scan is a success. Click Continue.

Step 13 “My Settings & Devices” window appears. Click the “When I log in” drop down box. You may choose either option, but we recommend choosing “Automtatically send this device a Duo Push”. Click Continue to Login.

Step 14 Click Send Me a Push to receive a push to your device.

Step 15 You will receive a popup on your device. Click Approve to connect to the VPN.

Step 16 Select “AnyConnect” on the left side of the screen.

Step 17 Select “Start AnyConnect” in the middle column. At this time, the program will attempt to install automatically. If successful, proceed to Step 25. If not successful, continue to the next step.

Step 18 Click Download. AnyConnect VPN will then be downloaded.

Step 19 Open your download folder and double click AnyConnect VPN to install AnyConnect VPN.

Step 20 Welcome to Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Setup Wizard screen will appear. Click “Next” to begin the install.

Step 21 Select the radio button for “I accept” and click “Next” to proceed with the install.

Step 22 Select “Install” to continue with the installation.

Step 23 If a screen pops asking you, do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device? Click “Yes”.

Step 24 Select “Finish” to complete the process.

Step 25 To connect launch, go to your Start Menu button located in the lower left corner of your screen. Click “All apps”.

Step 26 The apps are in alphabetical order. Under the letter “C”, look for the Cisco folder.

Step 27 Click the down arrow aligned with the Cisco folder to expand the folder.

Step 28 Click the “Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility” Icon.

Step 29 The first time you launch you will need to enter the server name. The server name is (gsuvpn.govst.edu). After you enter the server name, Select “Connect”. Note: You will need to first register for DUO Multifactor Authentication.

Step 30 Enter your GSU account name, password, and Select “Sign In” to proceed with the connection.

Step 31 Click Send Me a Push to receive a push to your device.

Step 32 You will receive a popup on your device. Click Approve to connect to the VPN.

Step 33 The VPN software will create a secure connection to GSU. You can verify your connection by selecting the upward pointing arrow found in the lower left part of the screen. Also, look for VPN icon with the pad lock symbol.

Step 34 To disconnect from the connection, you can right click on the VPN image with the pad lock and Select “Disconnect”.

OR

You can also double click the padlock top to open the client window and select Disconnect.

You can establish a secure VPN connection to GSU. You can now connect to your network drives or take control of your computer via remote desktop.

Step 35 Proceed to one of the following Chapters:

• Chapter 2 Finding your Computer's Name If you need assistance finding your computer name.

• Chapter 3 Installing Microsoft Remote Desktop App for Windows 10 If Remote Desktop is not already installed on your laptop/PC.

• Chapter 4 Using Remote Desktop for Windows 10 If the Remote Desktop App is already on your laptop/PC.

Chapter 2 Finding Your Computer’s Name Purpose: Steps 1-4 must be completed from your work computer before you can connect from home. Step 1 Find the PC Name on your work computer by selecting the Windows button in the lower right corner of your screen. The Settings icon will be revealed, Click “Settings” to proceed.

Step 3 Select “About”. The right side of the window contains information about the computer. Step 4 Look for the field labeled PC Name. Write the name down of your computer. You will need it to connect to this PC from home. Note: Depending on your Windows 10 version, your Settings screen may be different from the image below.

Chapter 3 Installing Microsoft Remote Desktop App for Windows 10 Purpose: This tutorial will guide you through the process of obtaining the remote desktop app for your computer. Step 1 Open the Microsoft Store by selecting the Windows shopping bag icon at the bottom of your screen.

Step 2 In the search field, Type “remote” and Select “Microsoft Remote Desktop app” (free). Note: The image below may vary between software versions.

Step 3 Microsoft Remote Desktop App icon appears, Click “Get”. The software will automatically begin to install onto your computer.

Step 4 When installation is complete, Click “Pin to Start” to the app to your Start Menu and then Select “Launch”.

Step 5 Once launched, you will need to add your computer name so you can remote into it. Select “Add” found in the top right corner.

Step 6 Select “Desktop” to connect to your PC.

Step 7 In the blank field, Enter your office desktop computer name. Note: This computer name is the not the name of your laptop. You will need the name of your office computer. Please visit Chapter 2 Finding Your Computer’s Name to complete this step.

Step 8 Select the icon that represents your computer.

Step 9 You will need to log in. Enter your GSU email address and password.

Step 10 The final step will ask you to accept certificate and connect. Check the box “Don’t ask about this certificate again” and Click “Connect”. This will only occur during the first time you connect.

Chapter 4 Using Remote Desktop for Windows 10 Purpose: The purpose for this tutorial is to assist with the set-up of Remote Desktop, which will allow you to access your files from your work computer.

Note: Steps 1-4 must be completed from your work computer before you can connect from home.

Step 1 Find the PC Name on your work computer by selecting the Windows button in the lower right corner of your screen. The Settings icon will be revealed, Click the “Settings” to proceed.

Step 9 The first time you launch you will need to enter the server name. The server name is (gsuvpn.govst.edu). After you enter the server name, Click the “Connect” button. Note: You will need to first register for DUO Multifactor Authentication, if you need Assistance please see Chapter 1, Step 16 located on page 8.

Step 10 Enter your GSU account name, password, and Select “Sign In” to proceed with the connection.

Step 11 Click Send Me a Push to receive a push to your device.

Step 12 You will receive a popup on your device. Click Approve to connect to the VPN.

Step 13 The VPN software will create a secure connection to GSU. You can verify your connection by selecting the upward pointing arrow found in the lower left part of the screen. Look for VPN icon with the pad lock symbol. The pad lock indicates you created a secure connection.

Step 14 Return to the lower right corner of your screen. Select the “Windows button” and Type “remote”. This will open a search window that includes Remote Desktop Connection. Select the “Remote Desktop Connection” icon.

Note: If Remote Desktop is not listed, you will need to install the Microsoft Remote Desktop app from the Microsoft Store. Please read Chapter 3 Installing Microsoft Remote Desktop App for Windows 10.

Step 15 Enter your computer name from Step 4 and Select “Connect”.

Step 16 Login using your GSU email address and password. This step applies for those who are using a GSU laptop. Please proceed to Step 18. If you are using your personal equipment, please continue to Step 17.

Step 17 Your name may appear above the password field and your personal email account may be listed. Click More Choices.

Step 18 Click Use a different account.

Step 19 Type your GSU email address and network password. Click OK to complete the process.

Step 20 The first time you connect, you will need to verify the certificate for the computer. Check the box “Don’t ask me again for connections to this computer” and Click “Yes” to proceed with the remote desktop connection.

Step 21 Depending on software versions, you may be asked again to enter your GSU account name and password. Once you completed the necessary steps, you will have remote access to your work computer. It will function as if you are sitting directly in front of your computer.

Step 22 Access your computer and files as you would normally do.
