You will receive your BCA, BCE, BCGE,BCGA, XTLE, XTLA, XTLGE or XTLGA totetank agitator packed in a ClevelandMixer box, incased in foam. Whenunpacking the mixer, make sure toremove and account for all of yourmixer's components.

The gear driven models (BCGA, BCGE,XTLGA, XTLGE) will come packed in twoseparate boxes: one box containing themounting frame, propeller, shaft,hardware and instruction manual. Thesecond box will contain the gear drive,motor and shaft coupling which will allbe preassembled. The gear drive will befilled with oil from the factory(Klubersynth GH6-460).

Mixers with air powered motors willcome with a needle valve (.25 NPT for.5-1HP units, .50 NPT for 2HP units). Theneedle valve is used to control the airpressure flowing into the motor.

Please see the diagram to the right forexamples of how your Cleveland Mixertote tank agitator should be packed. Ifyou receive your mixer with a damagedbox or missing parts, please report it tothe carrier and call the factory ordistributor to report the issue right away.

ASSEMBLY OF AGITATOR

Your Cleveland Mixer tote tank agitator will need some assembly.

Both 1HP and 2HP air powered, direct drive units will come with themotor factory mounted to the frame, but due to the height of themotor, 1HP and 2HP electric powered, direct drive units will need tohave the motor mounted to the frame before putting the mixers intoservice.

Both air powered and electric powered, gear driven units will needto have the drive end of the mixer mounted to the frame. Geardriven mixers will come with the drive end (motor and reducer) in aseparate package.

All of our tote tank agitators will need to have the shaft andpropeller(s) or turbine impeller(s) assembled prior to service.

Once the motor or reducer shaft and propeller or turbine areassembled and securely fastened, you will need to secure the mixerto the tote and attach the power source to the motor.

Please follow the steps in this manual to ensure your Cleveland Mixertote tank agitator is assembled properly prior to operation.

Quantity 4 - 3/8-16 x 1.00"steel hex head bolts w/ spring washer

STEP 1: Lower the motor (w/ couplingsecured to motor shaft) onto the mountingframe. Make sure the male register on themotor face lines up w/ the female registeron the face of the mounting plate. The fourholes on the mounting plate must line upwith the four threaded bolt holes on themotor (as shown in the diagram to the left).Insert the four 3/8-6 x 1" bolts w/ spring lockwashers from under the mounting plate intothe motor and tighten the bolts to fasten themotor to the frame.

Use this same step for BCE, BCA, BCGE, BCGA, XTLE, XTLA, XTLGE & XTLGA models

2. STEP 2: Slide the mixer shaft into the motor orreducer shaft coupling. The mixer shaft is1.00" diameter +/- .001 and the shaftcoupling is 1.00" diameter +/- .0015 so it willbe a very close fit. The shaft must bottom outin the coupling. Once it's in, secure the fivecup point set screws provided. ClevelandMixer recommends using a thread locker onthese set screws (if your process allows it).Once the shaft is in and the screws aretightened down, turn the shaft to make sureit is locked in straight.



STEP 3: 1/2 - 1HP Cleveland Mixer tote tankagitators will come with a single propeller, 1.5-2HP Cleveland Mixer tote tank agitators comewith two mixing propellers. The propellerssecure to the mixer shaft by way of (2) 3/8-16 x3/8" 316SS cup point set screws. The set screwsare located in the propeller's hub, between theblades. Slide the propeller(s) onto the shaft andtighten down on the set screws. ClevelandMixer recommends (when possible) to usethread locker on these set screws to help keepthem tight when in operation.

STEP 3B: Gear drivenunits come with alarger diameter foldingaxial impeller. Theimpeller hub isdesigned to fit throughthe minimum 6"diameter opening in astandard tote. Theblades fold down toallow the impellerassembly to fit insidethe tote. When themixer shaft begins torotate, the bladesexpand to their fulldiameter. If you aremixing thicker fluidsthat might coagulateor harden when not inmotion, it's important toclean these foldingblades after use. Folding Impeller - Closed Position

STEP 4: Tighten the J-Hookto the tote cage. Yourmixer will come with a J-Hook assembly on bothsides of the mountingframe. The J-Hookassembly mounts throughthe slot on the mountingframe as shown in thediagram to the right. TheJ-Hook assembly can beadjusted up to 1.5" oneither side. Slide the J-Hook under the tubing onthe tote cage andtighten down on thehand bolt until the frameis secure.

Before operating, remove the oil-plugat the top of the reducer and replaceit with the breather plug provided.

The breather plug should be checkedregularly to make sure it is clean andclear.

Four 3/8-16 x 1" hex head boltsconnect the motor to thereducer.

Five 5/16-18 x 3/8 socket cup pointset screws, 316SS connect thecoupling to the reducer output shaft.Make sure the set screws connectwith the flat surface on the shaft.

The shaft key provided on the motorshaft drives the reducer.

Check the motor's nameplate to find inputvoltage and wiring requirements. The motorshould be wired so the mixer shaft's outputrotation is clockwise. This will require themotor (on gear drive units) to be wired to runcounter clockwise, as the reducer willchange the direction of the output. Alwayshave electrical work performed by aprofessional electrician.

The helical reducer is shipped factoryfilled with Klubersynth UH1 6-460 syntheticgear lubricant. Check, flush and refill theoil every 3000 hours of service. Do notuse mineral oil or any other non-approved lubricants.

MIXER ASSEMBLY - GEAR DRIVE UNITS

For applications with more viscous materials such as paints, syrups, gels,honey, waste water with solid particals, etc. you will need to use anappropriately powered motor with a gear reducer and a larger diameterimpeller operating at a slower output speed. Please follow the directionsbelow to run and maintain your gear speed reducer.

Air motor input line .25"NPT for the 1HP unit,.50"NPT for the 2HP unit.Install the filter andspeed control on thisline.

MIXER ASSEMBLY SUMMARY

Cleveland Mixer portable mixers are designed to operate under all conditionsnormally encountered in liquid processing. It is precision machinery of thehighest quality. With proper care your portable mixer will give you years oftrouble-free service. If you should have any questions regarding operation,that are not answered in this manual, call Cleveland Mixer at 1-800-243-1188.

Your mixer is designed to operate continuously under all standard conditionsat normal levels. It is not good practice, however, to operate the mixercontinuously when extreme vortexing or surging occurs.

StorageDo not remove wrappings or protective coating if the mixer is to be storedbefore it is placed in operation. Store the mixer upright, in a clean, drylocation. When gear drive models have been stored for more than a year, thecondition of the gear lubricant should be checked before the mixer isinstalled.

Air MotorsIf your mixer is equipped with an air motor, install a moisture trap and filter inthe air line ahead of the motor. For efficiency of output and control of speed,use air lines the same size as the intake port on the motor. The exhaust flow willcreate condensation that might drip from the muffler. Take this into accountwhen the mixer is installed over an open tank or in an area that shouldn't getwet. Make sure to add air tool oil regularly to the input of the air motor to keepthe inside of the motor lubricated.

Left hand propellers are designed torun rotating clockwise. The flow patternwill pump downward toward thebottom of the tank and circulate backup towards the sides of the tote. Youshould not see turbulent motion at thesurface. Most of the mixing is occurringon the bottom of the tote.

Liquid Level

Cleveland Mixer tote tank agitators are designed to run continuously (ifnecessary) in order to suspend solids and keep the solids from settling out,transfer heat through liquid, blend liquids, etcetera. They are not designedto resuspend solids, mix dry ingredients or shearing of any kind. If you areusing the mixer to suspend solids or to mix liquids that can separate, it isbest to run the mixer continuously until the batch is complete then drainthe tank completely. If you allow the solids to settle around the propellerand then start the mixer up with the propeller buried in solids or in dry,gummy or paste like material, you risk causing catastrophic damage tothe mixer.

When adding powders, crystals or any other dry or clumped material intothe water in the tote tank, make sure to add it slowly and give the mixer achance to disperse the material evenly. Dumping a heavy mass into thetank while the mixer is running can cause catastrophic or serious damageto the mixer.

All Cleveland Mixer tote tank mixers areavailable in air or electric power. Electricmotors can range from .33HP - 3HP. AllCleveland Mixer tote tank mixers can besupplied with a gear speed reducer. TheAXF-3 folding impellers collapse to 5.5"diameter to fit through the typical 6"opening in a standard dimension totetank.

Filters/lubricators, high shear ITT blades,welded and coated shaft assemblies,VFD's, various motor enclosures (TEXP,TENV, etc.) are available. Contact thefactory with any questions or requests.
