Steps for installing Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Studio:

Download the software from link https://docs.google.com/a/sjsu.edu/file/d/0B-L7kcJ4x1yULW12Y1o2TGQtS1k/edit

1. You will get an image file

2. Right click the image file and extract it. Please see the image below.

3. It will take some time to extract completely. Extraction process will look like the image below

4. After the files are extracte, you will see the folder with the same name.

5. Open the folder. The folder will look like below:

6. Click setup (green colored icon)

7. After few minutes you will see a new window opening up. The window will look like the image below:

8. It will open up the following wizard. Please look at the image below.

9. Select “installation”

10. Choose first option: “new sql server installation or add features to existing installation”

11. click“ok” and enter “product key” : 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000

12. click “I accept. . .” and click on “Next”

13. New screen will open up. Please look at the image below.

Now click on next

14. After that it will start installing the setup files. Please look at the image below.

15. Now Click “install”

Click “next”. The new screen will look like below.

16. Now click “next; the New screen will look like below

17. Look at the above screen.

Choose “Select all”, and uncheck “Analysis Services ,Reporting Services”.

Click next. It will look like the image below.

18. After processing, it will look lke below

19. Click “next”20. You will bw on “ Instance configuration”. It will look like the image below. Click next

21. New screen will open up and will look like the image below.

Click “next”.

22. New screen will opwn up “Server Configuration”. The image will look like below.

Now click next.

23. Then in the new screen: Choose mixed mode.Type password : harmonic

Choose: Add current user. Your PC name will pop up

The screen will look like below attached image.

After all the above mentioned settings, Click “Next”

24. “Reporting Service Configuration” will open up. It will look like the image below.

Now Click “ next”.

25. At next screen: Choose “Add current user”. It will auto populate your PC name. Look at the image below

After that, Click next

26. New scrren will look like the image below.

Now Click next.

27. “Error reporting” screen will come up. It will look like the image below.

Now Click “next”

28. “Installation configuration rules” will check if everything is going correct. It will take few minutes. After some time, you will see the screen like below.

Now Click next.

29. You will see “Ready to install” screen. It will look like the images below.

NOW CLICK “INSTALL”.

30. Installation will start. It will take some time to complete. It will look like the image below.

31. After it is complete. It will look like the image below.

32. Now click“close”

The installation is complete.

Steps for importing the database:

To Import the database for “CS257 Concept Based Semantic Search “, do the following:

Note: Download the project folder (CS257 Concept Based Semantic Search) in any drive other than C.

1. Now, go to Windows’ initial screen and open “SQL Server Management Studio”(in Window 7, you go to “start” and type “sql server management studio”. )

2. Open management studio. It will open like the screen below:Server Name will be your PC name (It will be auto populated)

3. Click on Connect. You will be on the following screen:

4. To import the database, right click the database -> choose “Restore database”. Look at the mage below

5. New screen will open up. It will look like below:

6. Choose ‘Device’ and go to the button with three dots (…)

7. It will open new screen which will look like below image:

8. Click on add and Need to explain morelocate your database file(.bak file given by Prof Lin). Look at the image below

9. Click on Ok. Screen will look like below

Again click on Ok

10. Everything will get populated. Look at the image below

11. Now click on Ok. It will take some time for DB to load. Look at the image below

12. After some time, you will see a window which looks like below

The database is restored successfully.13. In case the Restore DB does not work.

a. Go to --> C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATAb. Remove the files : SemanticDB.mdf and SemanticDB_1.ldfc. Try restore DB step again

14. Now click on Ok15. Now you can see the change in the main screen. Look at the image below. It shows

“SemanticDB” as well.

Steps for creating the user for the database:1. Go to Databases -> SemanticDB -> Security -> Users

You will see user ‘CS267’ as well. Look at the image below.

This is because imported database had the user created in it.In case, cs 267 is not there; go to semantic db ; righ click and hit the refresh; cs 267 will show.

2. Since, the database has user with name ‘cs267’, we shall delete the user so as to avoid ambiguity.

3. To delete the user, Go to Databases -> SemanticDB -> Security -> Users > cs267Right click cs267 and click on ‘Delete’

4. Click yes on the message that pops up. Look at the image below

5. Below attached screen will appear. Click on OK

6. Now you will see that user no longer exists in the database. Look at the image below

Note: If you are unable to see the changes, Right click ‘SemanticDB’ and click refresh.

You will be able to see the changes described above.

7. Now we need to create the user for our database. Go tosecurity login Note: It is not in the database. Look at the image below

8. Now right click on ‘Logins’ -> Click on ‘New Login’Look at the image attached below which depicts the same:

9. A new screen will pop up, which will look like the image below:

10. Type Login name: cs267Choose ‘SQL Server Authentication’ . Type password: harmonic.

Uncheck “enforce password expiration”Look at the image below:

11. Now to go to “Server Roles” in the same pane before clicking anything. Choose public and sysadmin.Look at the image below

12. Now go to “User Mapping” in the same screenChoose all items in users maping sub-windowsAndChoose db_datareader, db_datawriter and public in next sub-window

13. Now go to status in the same window, see if Grant and Enabled are chosenLook at the image below

14. Now click on ‘Ok”. Look at the image below

15. Now, if you go to Security -> Logins, you will see the new user

Note: If you are unable to see the user, right click Logins -> click on refresh

16. Now go to Databases -> SemanticDB -> Security -> Users -> You will see that user cs267 is created.
