Description

The SH Industrial Filter is designed for use in systems where filtration of compressed gas is required. Other filtration applications include liquid aerosols as well as particulates, depending on the installation configuration. These filters are carbon steel housings with a standard design pressure of 150psigat450°F.Thehousingcontainsportstoaccommodate a differential pressure gauge and liquid drain (see Optional Equipment / Accessories Manuals). Additionally, the filter housing’s lower swinging filter access door is designed to ease filter servicing. Any model with a vessel that is larger than 6 inches in (internal) diameter are ASME code- stamped.

These cost effective filters are designed to maximize airflow with minimum pressure loss. The housings are equipped with connections to accommodate any of Donaldson’s industrial filter elements to meet specific application requirements; specifically the UltrapolyPE,UltraporexSB,UltradepthFF,MF,orSMF, and the Ultrac AK. All industrial filter element varieties are epoxy resin bonding and contain aluminum end caps and O-rings that are free of silicone and potting compounds.

Purpose and Intended Use

The SH Industrial Steel Filters may only be used for their intended purpose, which is to separate condensate, particles, and oil mist from compressed air.

Misuse or modification of this equipment may result in

personal injury.

Do not misuse or modify.

Inspection on Arrival1. Inspect unit on delivery.

2. Report any damage to the delivery carrier.

3. Request a written inspection report from the Claims Inspector to substantiate claim.

4. File claims with the delivery carrier.

5. Compare unit received with description of product ordered.

6. Report incomplete shipments to the delivery carrier and your Donaldson representative.

7. Remove crates and shipping straps if applicable. Remove loose components and accessory packages before lifting unit from truck.

Installation Codes and Procedures

This product should be operated only from the type

of power source specified. If unsure of the type of power supply for the desired outlet, consult a local power company. Failure to comply may result in personal injury and/or property damage.

Follow proper lock out/tag out procedures before performing service or maintenance work.

Electrical installation must be performed by a qualified electrician and comply with all applicable national and local codes.

1. Safe and efficient operation of the unit depends on proper installation.

2. A qualified installation and service agent should complete installation and service of this equipment.

3. All shipping materials, including shipping covers, must be removed from the unit prior to, or during unit installation.

Failure to remove shipping materials from the unit will

compromise unit performance.

Unit Location

1. Proper clearance must be maintained between the bottom of the steel housing and floor/surface to allow filter service. See Filter Access Door Swing Clearance section on pages 16-17.

Lifting Information

Failure to lift the unit correctly can result in severe personal

injury or property damage.

Use appropriate lifting equipment and adopt all safety precautions needed for moving and handling the equipment.

A hand cart, forklift or crane is recommended for unloading and installation.

Lift unit by lifting lugs and frame only. Do not lift by piping.

1. Use all lifting points provided.

2. Use clevis connectors, not hooks, on lifting slings.

3. Only lift unit under support frame/base by using the fork lift openings provided. Do not lift by piping.

4. Check the Rating and Specification Information on Pages 4-5 for approximate weight to ensure adequate lift truck capacity.

5. Allow only qualified operators to lift the equipment.

6. Refer to applicable OSHA regulations and local codes when using cranes, forklifts, and other lifting equipment.

Standard Equipment

Standard equipment consists of the SH filter housing, pressure vessel, sight glass, and filter elements. For drain equipment and differential pressure gauge, reference separate accessory manuals.

Preliminary Start-Up Checklist

1. Check that all connections are properly secured.

2. Check that all optional accessories are installed properly and secured.

3. Slowly apply pressure to the system by first opening the downstream valve.

Unit can be equipped with various components.

Ensure the operating over-pressures and temperatures for the components are within the specified range.

4. Information is provided in the relevant operating instructions and also from the type plate on the unit or its components.

5. Information is provided in the relevant operating instructions for the start-up of components.

Service Information

Prior to performing service or maintenance work on the SH

filter housing, perform the following steps to avoid personal injury and/or property damage:

Disconnect compressed air supply to filter housing.

Lock out all valves that supply compressed air to the filter housing.

Depressurize the system.

Maintenance

The filter elements must be changed at regular intervals every 6 months at a minimum or when the maximum differential pressure exceeds the allowable limit as indicated by the econometer or economizer display. The gasket and filter should be changed at the same time.

Always change the activated charcoal filter at the same time as other filter elements of the same treatment line.

Reset the economizer with the Reset button (see the “economizer” operating instructions).

2. Provide enough clearance between the bottom of SH filter housing and floor/surface to allow proper filter service. For proper clearance, see Filter Access Door Swing Clearance.

3. Orient the differential pressure gauge to match airflow direction with airflow direction of the unit connection.

Rotate the gauge by loosening the screws in the mounting bracket. Secure screws when gauge is in proper position.

Green zone indicates low pressure and red zone indicates

high pressure.

Filter Housing / Filter Element Installation

1. Orient and install the designated SH housing based on the desired function:

Coalescing function - Install coalescing inlet into the elbow portion of the housing inlet so air flows from the inside of the elements to the outside.

Particulate function - Install particulate inlet towards the internal deflector plate inside the housing so the air flow is from the outside of the elements to the inside.

4. Shut off the pressure valve to 0 psi for filter element replacement.

5. Plumb the filter housing to the connecting piping while ensuring the connection is level.

6. Open the filter access door on the housing by removing the nuts from the bolts.

10. Open the bottom of the filter bag and expose the bottom of filter element and install the retaining nut on the rod.

Filter Replacement

Prior to performing service or maintenance work on the SH filter housing, perform the following steps to avoid personal injury and/or property damage:

1. When prompted by the warning LED on the differential pressure gauge, proceed to change the filter element.

2. Reduce the air pressure to the lowest possible setting.

Float Drain - Rotate the knob.

5. Open the filter access door on the housing by removing the nuts from the bolts.

6. Swing open the filter access door.

7. Remove and dispose of the dirty filter and gasket from the filter housing.
