    INSTRUCTIONS FOR WINSPC: TRIAL VERSION

    (Download Edition)

    Installation Procedure

    1. If you havent already done so, download the trial version of WinSPC fromwww.winspc.comto the trial computer. (Trial computerrefers to the computer on

    which you want to install and run the trial version of WinSPC.)

    2. Determine if you are an administrator on the trial computer.1 If you are runningWindows XP, the steps to do this are:

    Login.

    Double-click StartControl PanelUser Accounts.

    Locate your login ID in the User Namecolumn and read the corresponding group

    name in the Groupcolumn. If the group name isAdministrators, you are anadministrator.

    Note: If you are running another version of Windows and need help determiningwhether or not you are an administrator, contact DataNet Quality Systems oryour systems department.

    3. If you are an administrator, go to step 4. If you are not an administrator, contact yoursystems department and request you be assigned temporary administrative

    privileges. If these privileges are granted, logout of and back into the trial computer.

    Then, proceed with step 4. If these privileges are not granted, request someone with

    administrator privileges login to the trial computer and complete this procedure.

    1Administrator privileges are required to install WinSPC. Following installation, a utility can be run toconfigure WinSPC for use by users without administrative privileges.

    4. Navigate to and double-click the WinSPC163cEval.exefile you downloaded. If amessage beginning The publisher could not be verified displays, click Run.

    The necessary installation files automatically extract

    and the setup of WinSPC initiates.

    (If, at this point, a Setup Initialization Errormessage appears, you are not logged into

    the trial computer as an administrator. In this case, click the messages Okbutton,return to and repeat this procedure from step 3.)

    5. In the WinSPC C/S Evaluation Setupwizard (not shown) that appears:a. When the Welcomedialog box is displayed, read the text and click Next.

    b. In the SoftwareLicenseAgreementdialog box, read the agreement and, if you

    agree with it, click Yes.

    c. In the UserInformationdialog box, enter your name and the name of yourcompany and click Next.

    d. In the SelectProgramFolderdialog box, accept WinSPCas the program folderand click Next.

    e. In the StartCopyingFilesdialog box, click Next.

    This decompresses the setup files and, within a few minutes, completes thesetup, displaying a variety of messages as it does.

    f. CONDITIONAL: If a window displaying the contents of the WinSPC folderappears, close it by clicking the X in the upper right corner.

    g. When the SetupCompletedialog box is displayed, leave the Yes, I want to

    restart my computer nowoption selected and click the Finishbutton.

    6. After your computer restarts, when the Windows login prompt appears, login againas an administrator.

    7. CONDITIONAL: When the operating system loads, if a window displaying thecontents of a folder appears, close it by clicking the X in the upper right corner.

    8. From the StartAll Programs menu (Windows XP) or the StartPrograms menu(Windows 2000), navigate to and single-click WinSPCWinSPC CS.

    9. In the WinSPC C/S AccessCenterdialog box that appears, click the Exit buttonwithout logging in.

    10. If WinSPC is going to be evaluated only by users with administrative privileges onthe trial computer, this completes the installation procedure and you may proceed topage 12 for login and evaluation instructions. If WinSPC is going to be evaluated byusers with more restricted privileges, please continue to step 11, Supplementary

    Configuration.

    11. Supplementary Configurationa. Determine if the trial computer is part of a Windows domain1. If you are running

    Windows XP, the steps to do this are:

    Right-click My Computerand select Properties.

    Click the Computer Nametab.

    If, toward the middle of the tab, you see Domainwith text beside it (e.g.mycompany.com), the trial computer is part of a Windows domain.

    Note: If you are running another version of Windows and need help determining

    whether or not the trial computer is part of a Windows domain, contactDataNet Quality Systems or your systems department.

    b. If the trial computer is part of a Windows domain, proceed to step 11c. If the trialcomputer is not part of a Windows domain:

    Login as a local administrator2.

    From the StartAll Programs menu (Windows XP) or the StartPrograms

    menu (Windows 2000), navigate to and single-click WinSPCWinSPCSecurity Utility. This causes the WinSPC Security utility to be displayed with

    the Userstab selected.

    1Domain is defined as a group of computers on a network.

    2Local Administrator is defined as a user with administrative privileges on an individual (local) computer.

    On the Userstab, check the check box for each user you want to be able torun WinSPC. Checking a check box causes anApplyingPermissionsprogress bar to appear. Once permissions are applied, the progress bar

    closes.

    Close the WinSPC Security utility by clicking the X in the upper right corner.

    This completes the supplementary configuration for a trial computer that is

    not part of a domain. Any user for whom you applied permissions may nowrun WinSPC on the trial computer when logged in under their regular user

    name and password.

    c. If the trial computer is part of a Windows domain:

    Have someone from your systems department login as a domainadministrator1 andcompletethe remaining steps of this subprocedure.

    From the StartAll Programs menu (Windows XP) or the StartPrograms

    menu (Windows 2000), navigate to and single-click WinSPCWinSPC

    Security Utility. The WinSPC Security utility will be displayed with the Groups tab selected.

    Toward the bottom of the Groups tab, at Group Name, enter WinSPC Trial

    Usersand click the Create New Group button. This causes a WinSPC TrialUsersgroup to be added to the list of groups in the middle of the dialog box.

    Check the check box for the new WinSPC Trial Users group.

    Wait for theApply Permissionsprogress bar that appears to close.

    Close the WinSPC Security utility by clicking the X in the upper right corner.

    1Domain Administrator is defined as a user with sufficient privileges to define domain access. (A domainadministrator is automatically a local administrator but a local administrator is not automatically a domainadministrator.)

    Using Windows administrative tools, add the users you want to be able torun WinSPC to the newly created WinSPC Trial Users group on the domaincontroller1.

    This completes the supplementary configuration for a trial computer that is

    part of a domain. Any user assigned to the WinSPC Trial Users group may

    now run WinSPC on the trial computer when logged in under their regularuser name and password.

    Note: At any time, if you wish to remove previously applied permissions, simply uncheckthe appropriate check box.

    Login and Evaluate

    1. From the StartAll Programs menu (Windows XP) or the StartPrograms menu(Windows 2000), navigate to and single-click WinSPCWinSPC CS. (If, at this

    point, the initial WinSPC screen remains unchanged for more than a minute,

    WinSPC has frozen. This indicates that supplementary configuration is required forthe user name with which you logged into the trial computer. In this case, return to

    and complete step 11 of the Installation Procedure.)

    2. In the WinSPC C/S AccessCenterthat appears, enter adminin the User Namebox

    and single-click Log In. (The adminuser name is configured to use a blankpassword.) If you would like to run WinSPCin Spanish, enterjosein the User Namebox.
