Myth of the Week I I don’t know much about computers. This
course is going to be difficult, boring, and a ton of homework.
I’m a CS major. I plan to sleep through this class.
Myth of the Week II Processor speed is the most important factor
in selecting a computer. What about software? What about good design? What about storage and peripherals?
Peripherals include CD/DVD drives, monitors, printers, ethernet and wifi connectivity, etc.
What about reliability?

A Day in the Life of … Go through your day – morning, mid-day,
afternoon, evening List all the things you touch and do that
involve computers.
What things can you think of that do not involve computers?
Prepare for next week Find 3 – 4 teammates. Consider exercise 1.16
on page 41 of A Gift of Fire Be prepared to present your inventions next
week. Skim through all the exercises on pp. 40 – 42. Take a look at exercise 1.21. Be prepared for
a brief discussion next week.
