V for Evey

After the subway train rolled into the tunnel, Evey and Finch watch the destruction of the House of Parliament. Evey takes advantage of Finch's overwhelmed, fixated attention to the event and bolts into the darkness. Evey takes a few slow steps away, backing up from Finch, keeping her eyes on him, then abruptly turns and sprints. Finch turns quickly, sees her run and with a terse, strained face, flared nostrils, mumbles “Bloody hell.”He doesn't take chase.

[NEW SCENE](reverse camera shot) Evey runs back into the tube station to retrieve V's hat. She also finds the bodies of Creedy and his henchmen along with V's knife belt and bloodied armour breastplate.(front camera shot) She grabs all three items (A quick camera closeup shows the breastplate's outline stained the ground with blood) and (wide angle reverse shot) races out of the station in a panic. Police investigators and Fingermen may be closing in. (close camera shot) There's a slight shadow in the tunnel at track level. Evey doesn't notice.

[NEW SCENE](front camera shot) She arrives back at the Shadow Gallery, lays V's belongings on the floor and (side view camera shot) sees a note on the jukebox. V had written a brief yet poignant love letter to Evey professing his immense love for her and indicating stored essentials in a room behind the kitchen.(Close-up shot of the paper - with V's voice narrating the note):

“My Dear beloved Evey - You have been a diamond, lighting up my heart.

Shining through my darkness, I've loved you from the start. And today is my finale, this life I may depart.

I leave to you, the Shadow Gallery, its treasures, books, and art.

I wish for your future safety, strength, security, to remain evasive and sustained. All essentials you may require for many months have been allocated in the room behind the kitchen along with a safe full of untraceable money.

Be strong for me. Be vigilant and free. Remember our destiny. Eternally yours truly, V.”

(frontal camera shot) She slowly enters the storage area, letter in hand, and (camera panning) sees the room is filled with thoroughly organized boxes, bins, racks of clothes, and a portrait of Evey (with hair) painted by V, surrounded by roses. (camera closeup) A note on the safe with the lock's combination. She clumsily shuffles out of the storage room towards the bed and breaks down into a mournful despair of losing V, knowing how much he truly loved her. Exhausted by depression, weeping uncontrollably, she lays upon V's bed and "cries a river".

[NEW SCENE](Briefly repeated former footage): The subway train rolling into the tunnel. (Overhead camera shot) A slight movement of V's mask indicates he's not dead but extremely weak from his injuries. He rolls his head side to side before slightly raising it off the bench, seemingly dazed and disoriented.(rapid succession of V's memories, in bright flashes) V regains consciousness aboard the train and overhears Finch and Evey's exchange, knowing too that Finch saw his body, presumed dead.(Finch's voice is heard "It's over") V plays opossum. Memories of Evey, her imprisonment, tears, dance and kiss overwhelm V's initial plan to depart this world and "meet his maker".(He has foggy envisions reuniting with Evey) He wore protective armour to confront Creedy, hoping to survive his own assassination but not fearing a lethal finale.(Overhead camera shot) V grasps the last domino - which remained standing - which represents V and Evey as one entity, with one vision. They did not topple after the chain reactions they catalysed. Seconds before detonation, V falls onto the floor, drags himself to the side door and (camera shot from the side of the subway tunnel) plunges onto side of the tracks as the train proceeds by. He is crawling along the rails, having difficulty with breathing, away from the impending fireball. He briefly curls up into the foetal position, bracing as a series of bright flashes and explosions can be seen in the distant tunnel background. The meeting with his maker has been cancelled.

[NEW SCENE](Rooftop and street-level camera shots) On the streets above, the aftermath of the destruction, viewed by thousands, ignites an even bigger firestorm - full rebellion and mass anarchy. Thousands of "Guy Fawkes" revellers cheer, applaud, whistle

while perplexed military personnel are aimlessly disorganized, overwhelmed by the magnitude of the situation. Overhead TV crews stream live footage of the inferno, fire crews, military personnel, frantic investigators, cheering civilians.

Norsefire was extinguished. Narrating broadcasters, frantic, exasperated, describe the rebellious will of the people gaining momentum and predict sweeping reforms and protests despite steadfast opposition from dwindling Norsefire supporters. New political candidates call into TV stations-live- and begin campaigning their platform.Opposition politicians call for a full investigation of the bombing and the complete incompetent breakdown of military response. ('Uprising' by MUSE is the background music) TV reports indicate both V and Evey had likely died in the explosion, based on a "breaking news" preliminary police report and speculation. TVs across the UK are viewed by families, seniors in residences, patrons at pubs, pedestrians passing TV stores. This time, the public believe V and Evey are really dead. The city and country is in awe, bewilderment, disbelief. Many viewers fist-pump with excitement and show genuine joy in their faces. [NEW SCENE](Bridging shots showing the passage of a few hours - from midnight to approximately 5 am.) Fires are extinguished. Cleanup crews collect garbage, sweep debris. Heavy machinery removing tonnes of charred bricks, wood, broken glass within fortified, guarded barricades. Police tape surrounds the site as Scotland Yard investigators talk with structural engineers and fire crews while others begin sifting through piles of wreckage. Early light of dawn is seen on the horizon. Hundreds of onlookers loiter, collecting pieces of debris as souvenirs.

[NEW SCENE] Just before dawn, (close up) an exhausted Evey is partially asleep, her eyes bloodshot from the tears, the pillow soaked. (frontal camera shot) She hears shuffling, knocking and bumping in a distant hallway. She looks around, swallowing hard. Concerned, but not fearful, of a possible police take-down or Fingermen, she quietly gets off the bed, grabs one of V's knives and quietly sneaks towards the sound. (Her fears have been replaced by brazen vengeance. No more hiding under a bed nor jumping out of windows when faced with a threat to her security.) She sneaks around a hallway. She is shocked, astonished, dropping the knife and rushing forward. "V, oh my, Veeeeee , how did you ..?" He is alive, barely. V slumps over to Evey and is helped to the bed.(Evey: panting, struggling to keep him walking) "Come on V, get to the bed,(pause) to stop the

bleeding, come on V, (panting, pause) come on, you can make it. Come on. That's it". Blood-soaked, dehydrated, damaged furthermore,(with a shortness of breath) V gasps "Evey (gasp), I want (panting) I want to be with you (gasp) always." He recalls his memories of Evey (similar quick flash memories - a few seconds - as on the train) and his intense love for her. "I have to be with you". V had wanted to abandon his life in the new world but he could not abandon Evey after all. Evey deserved more than a memory of V and V yearns to be with his beloved soul-mate.(Multiple short, quick close-up camera shots of a frantic, rushed Evey) As V lays in the bed, Evey removes his boots, gloves, comforts him with blankets, tends to his wounds. She abruptly cuts open his jacket's right shoulder area (struggling with the scissors), washing the wounds and applying pressure with pieces of ripped, clean towels secured with duct tape. His wounds and bleeding have been stabilized. Evey pulls a small night table to the right side of the bed for a bowl of clean water, washcloth and drinking glass. (slower pace, camera shot through V's eyes, tilted to the left, laying on the bed) Evey then offers water through a straw knowing how he was unwilling to remove his mask. As Evey briefly turns away, reaching to the nightstand for the water glass, (from V's perspective) he slowly pulls his mask up with his trembling left hand, revealing his face only to her. She turns toward him with the water and is momentarily paralysed with shock. Reacting to Evey's concerned expression, V starts to put the mask back on (lowering it in front of the camera) but Evey says "No V, it's okay, don't be embarrassed." and gently takes the mask away from his weak grip (her right hand approaches the camera and pulls to mask to the left). She puts the glass down, wrings out the washcloth and begins wiping blood from his face. She glances over his features, puts the wash cloth into the bowl, takes the glass and slowly manoeuvres the straw towards his lips."Here V, drink this slowly." (the camera shows the glass and straw brought up close) He drinks the glass empty (gulping and panting sounds), exhaling in relief. Evey re-tracks the empty glass and places it on the nightstand. As Evey stares directly into his eyes, V extends his un-gloved hands and pulls Evey towards his face. She leans forward, reaches for his head and gives him a tender, prolonged kiss on the lips."Thank-you." he replies in a frail whisper. (camera shot is squinted to suggest V is smiling) She tilts her head to the right saying "You have a beautiful smile." gives him a gentle grin and tells him “Now you need to sleep.” reassuring him "I'm staying right here at your side. Okay? Close your eyes and rest." Evey hunches onto her left side. With Evey sitting at his beside, her head upon the side of the mattress. V, weakly strokes Evey's head and hands before closing his eyes (camera view closes from top and bottom).(Reverse, rising , retreating camera

shot over V's right shoulder shows both had fallen asleep.)The room is quiet.

[NEW SCENE](Brief overhead and street level camera shots) Cleanup progresses at the explosion site. Heavy machinery, front loaders, dump trucks come and go. Construction workers and investigators seen with blueprints, clipboards, laptops. Numerous TV reporters asking civilians, near the scene, about their feedback or feelings of the event. Many aren't afraid to candidly say "This was a long time coming. We'd been suppressed for so long. Something had to give, to collapse, in order for us to rebuild." "This demolition was the perfect storm for reform." “I hope Sutler was in there with a stick of dynamite up his (censored) *BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP*” (passers-by whistle and applaud the remark, flipping their middle finger at the cameras.) (bridging camera shots of the site show the passage of several hours until twilight, evening)

[NEW SCENE]By evening, Evey strains to help V get to the bathroom and assists him back onto the bed. (reverse camera shot behind unmasked V) V is gently propped up (to his left side) with pillows and stacked books... his unmasked face obscured by his wig. (right side view) Evey changes his bandages and uses proper medical tape. Evey : “This looks better than yesterday. What a mess they made of you. Who shot you anyway?” V : “Creedy and his puppets. After he shot Sutler, he took his aim on me as we had negotiated.” Evey replies mortified: “What!? He killed Sutler and You 'negotiated' to get shot? What the hell for?” V (deep sigh): “If Creedy finished off Sutler, then he was given a chance at me. Part of my plan was to wear armour and have them expend their artillery, then hit back and take out Creedy. He never reckoned my ambitions and ideas are bulletproof.” Evey (shaking head in disapproval) : “Well if an idea is supposed to be bullet-proof, then those who dream such ideas shouldn't end up bullet-ridden.” (pauses and quietly whispers) “You're lucky they didn't get your neck or head.” V : “Mmmm. Yes. But I did get Creedy's neck in a snap decision.”(V has a sudden shiver) V : “Burrrr. Can you fetch me an extra blanket? It's a bit chilly tonight.” Evey :(off camera) “Just a sec.” (close reverse camera shot over V's right shoulder): As a second blanket is carefully pulled toward his right shoulder, and his right hand is positioned for comfort, Evey's hand can been seen caressing his right forearm. V's notices her hand, feels a slight shift on the bed, his head lifts slightly and lowers back onto the pillow as he sighs with a sense of relief and peacefulness. Evey has snuggled up against his back (reverse camera shot retreats) He cradles her hand, tucking her hand towards his heart with his right

hand and the two drift asleep, embraced, keeping each other warm, secure and united. The room is still and quiet. Their heartbeats synchronize.(two separate rhythm beats in left and right channel stereo, becoming identical in pace, as one heartbeat)

[NEW SCENE]Early morning, (left camera tilt as V's unmasked perspective) V awakens to Evey's offer of an egg and spinach omelette. She sits at his bedside, places the plate on the mattress. Spoon fed, he promptly devours the whole meal. In between bites and hard swallows, he quietly says "mmm, this is very good". Evey replies "the high protein and iron are good for your blood ...(pause, concerned monotone) or what's left of it.” (pause, upbeat tone) “Do you want more?" V replies "perhaps a little later, near lunchtime." Evey nods and grins, remarks "Well, Sutler sure buys good food. He eats well." V replies in a mumble "Hmmm, he used to...", and the two share a smile and a mischievous giggle. (reverse camera shot of V) Evey says "Now, let's get you to the bathroom...” (she looks around, leans towards the floor) “Let's see, hmm, this time I'll try this as leverage." as she puts V's empty knife belt around his waist as a support harness, pulling his legs over the edge of the bed. Evey says "On the count of three. Ready?"...They count "one, two, three": she tugs the belt as he lurches forward onto his feet, his hands grasping Evey's shoulders. Evey holds the belt and V's waist and promptly orders him "And back to bed when you're done. Don't wander off anywhere." He nods his head in her direction, "Oui mademoiselle" he replies to her compassionate directions. They huddle together with shuffling footsteps...

[NEW SCENE](camera close up of a computer screen, typing) As Finch is completing his report of the bombing, he falsifies his recollection of events and claims that he witnessed Evey and a dead V were both aboard the train.(cursor moving) “...approached the side of a subway train as suspect Evey Hammond had closed the doors and engaged the motor. Deceased, bloodied body of suspect V was laying on subway seats, covered in red flowers. No other individuals were seen on board. Could not catch up with the fast-accelerating train. Approximately two minutes later, severe explosions could be heard from within the tunnel. Permeating very heavy smoke and choking fumes. Hammond likely killed in explosion. No additional suspects seen in vicinity or are believed involved.”

[NEW SCENE]Forensic investigators swarm the ruins of the Parliament buildings and the scene of Creedy and Sutler's demise. Multiple photographs are taken, evidence markers cover a large section of the floor and walls of the subway station. One junior investigator (Pulver) notice's some evidence is missing. (closeup camera shot of bloodied floor) “Hey inspector Fox, this looks unusual.” (A senior investigator walks over and crouches down to look.) “See how the blood leaves a defined line on the ground? I don't see any objects which match this contour. Whatever left this marking, it's been removed from the vicinity.” More photos are taken.

[NEW SCENE]At lunchtime, as Evey is preparing another omelette, (reverse camera shot behind V) she turns to find V (unmasked) slowly approaching the kitchen table. Concerned and miffed, she asks "Oh V, what are you doing out of bed?" She notices his wet hair and sighs "Did you get your bandages wet?" V mumbles "Uhhhh. (pause) ummmm (pause). Maybe." Evey rolls her eyes and says wearily."Tssssk. (sigh) Oh Veeeee". Wearing white pyjamas and robe, V had taken a refreshing shower and wanted to join Evey. V replies "I needed to freshen up. I want to dine with you, our first time. You know, Evey, no-one else has ever sat with me, at this table, for a meal?" Evey asks "No-body? Has anyone else even been in your home before?" V replies "No, never, but remember too, this is your home now. The Shadow Gallery and everything here is yours." Evey sighs “Including you?” (pause) “This is not just mine. It's ours, V. We both belong here, (pause) together.” V glances at her (close up) left hand. She puts his plate down and helps him to a chair. She cuts up his food but coddles him to feed himself, assisting him to pick up his fork. ”Let me cut up the eggs.” “Here. Try holding the fork with your left hand". He starts eating. “And straight back to bed when you're done eating, mister. You need to rest" she whispers, nuzzling against his ear. "Oui mademoiselle" he replies after swallowing, followed by a kiss on her cheek. Evey sits at the table, begins eating while staring at V, wondering how he survived. He looks up and sees her stare. She quietly asks (deep swallow) “I thought you were dead. How did you (pause), how were you able to...come back?”V (very emotionally) explained how Evey's last words "I don't want you to die" changed his outlook. For over 20 years, persecuted, blamed, tortured, hunted, V was always wanted dead. No-one ever treated him as a sentient human being until Evey came along. He narrates his memories (camera shots show memory flashes through V's masked perspective) having blacked-out in Evey's arms and regaining consciousness seconds before hearing Finch's voice. He had partially opened his

eyes, at first seeing the ceiling of the train's interior. By laying still and silent, V figured he might be able to escape capture, feeling his future with Evey is a paramount inspiration to live.(V says sobbing) “I realized how much you mean to me. I envisioned us together, long after my vendetta had concluded. Having this insatiable appetite for vengeance had blinded my sensibilities ... Dying for a cause is easy. But fighting to live for something, or someone, as beautiful as you, is a greater challenge much worthier to conquer. (sobbing, breaking voice) If I gave up on life, then I'd be giving up on you, the one person I was destined to be with forever.”(back at the kitchen table- overhead camera shot from V's perspective, we see down onto his food plate. Tears fall like the rain which had come down upon Evey.) He is crying as a speechless Evey listens. Her eyes well up, in a choked voice she says "You broke my heart." V lifts his head, sniffs and whispers, "And you healed mine. How could I abandon you after all you've done for me?” Evey has a strained smile, walks over to V and caresses his head. Both sniffling, she whispers to him to “Finish eating so you can return to bed and change your dressings.” She gently kisses his head, sits down and both resume eating in silence.

[NEW SCENE]Some staunch Norsefire-brainwashed investigators are sceptical of Finch's closing report. Fox (sounds like Fawkes), Ashlock (sounds like Arshloch) and Doph (sounds like Dof) burst into Finch's office and aggressively question him about seeing V's body on the train and indicate suspicious circumstances regarding his story. Fox tells Dominic to “bugger off” and a worried Dominic (eyes wide open) scurries out. Fox closes the door and leads the verbal assault “Finch, we need a word. (He slaps a photocopy of the report on Finch's desk.) Your closing report is looking a bit thin , too lean on details. You say you saw V and Hammond on the train? Couldn't catch 'em, eh?” Finch abruptly fires off “no, she closed the doors just as I got close enough to see V's body inside.” Fox “Any backup officers to assist?” (smugly) “Surely, if you 'had a feeling' about the V possibly using a train, you'd have followed standard protocol and gone with backup to look around.” Finch “No, I went alone. Most officers were deployed to other positions already. Okay? (sneering) What are the chances I'd get backup authorized from Creedy anyway?” Ashlock jumps in “So you have no witness to corroborate ...” Finch stands up, yells back “Calling me a liar? Fox answers “not following protocol is, how shall we say?, 'questionable conduct'. This doesn't look good for you Finch.” Finch's face gets terse, strained, tight. He sits down, exhaling loudly. Fox continues the barrage “Aaaaaand, so far, no human remains were found in the wreckage.

Page 9: Inspired by the film 'V for Vendetta' . Directed by James McTeigue, …members.distributel.net/~artemis/VforVendetta-V2.0.pdf · 2020. 7. 17. · Inspired by the film 'V for Vendetta

No bone fragments, teeth, clothing residue, not even a mask. Coincidentally weird, huh?” Doph interjects “And at the scene of Sutler's assassination, we noticed evidence was missing. You're telling us you were the only one in the station. No backup otherwise .. Hmmm.” Finch sternly says “Show me the proof of missing evidence and how you think I'm somehow connected.” Fox barks back “Uh, Uh. No go. You're off all investigations and restricted from accessing data. As of right now, you're assigned to office duties. You're under an internal investigation for possible collusion.” Finch, enraged, “I stand by my report and all the rest of your insinuations are just bullsh*t innuendo. What else do you want to fabricate?” Fox slyly replies, grinning, “We think you're not telling us everything you know about this V guy ... and whatever evidence we need, we'll be sure to find it at any cost. And what we can't find... well ...we'll make the pieces fit. Creedy never trusted you and neither do we. Do you know the penalties for treason and acts of terrorism, ha ha ha?” The three saunter out of Finch's office with cocky smiles and chuckles. Finch is terrified and speechless.

[NEW SCENE](short succession of camera shots – no dialogue) For weeks, Evey helps V get out of bed to bathe, encouraging him to walk, stretch, regain his physical strength. (reverse camera shots) While referencing books and diagrams, she helps him with basic physiotherapy maneuvers, rotating his right shoulder socket, knee bends, gentle back massages. They do callisthenics together and Evey acts as a counter force to V's muscle-building resistance training. Soon, in front of the piano, V starts “bench pressing” Evey by holding her shoulders as she faces downward at him, her hands clasped behind her head. (close up side shot) Eventually, V lowers Evey towards his masked face, and surprises her with a gentle nuzzle on the nose and a hug. His strength is revived, rebuilding. In a bath robe, V soon relishes in slow, gingerly sword fights with his statue suit of armour, its bullet-ridden breastplate re-assembled. V and Evey strengthen and heal each other, as the world outside also heals.

[NEW SCENE]Society undergoes more democratic, civilized re-structuring amidst new elections campaigns. Numerous political candidates from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds debate about reforms and the atrocities committed by Norsefire. All candidates publicly debate on TV and share a common goal of insisting, demanding full investigations regarding the former regime. Dascombe frantically opposes all transmissions of the debates' segments when candidates are encouraged to hold Norsefire party members accountable. “Un-f*cking believable. We can't show this live on TV. Cut to commercial NOW!”

Page 10: Inspired by the film 'V for Vendetta' . Directed by James McTeigue, …members.distributel.net/~artemis/VforVendetta-V2.0.pdf · 2020. 7. 17. · Inspired by the film 'V for Vendetta

He yells off-camera. “Cut to some f*cking commercials!!!” He continues yelling at the camera crews and technicians. They ignore him until Network HR officials approach him with a “pink slip” and an empty box for his belongings. ”What is this bullsh*t? HR informs him that his conduct is harassing, intimidating and he has been replaced by a new (ethnic) programming director with “a more open, transparent, liberal attitude”. Dascombe's eyes nearly pop out of his head. Candidates and their constituencies pressure Scotland Yard and the UN to initiate thorough inquests into Norsefire and the probable motivations of V. News reports of criminal charges are brought against hundreds of Norsefire Fingermen and their associates. Curfew signs, speakers and numerous invasive cameras are removed from public spaces as they are deemed as unconstitutional. Many of the speakers and signs have been vandalized with spray painted Vs or cartoon Guy Fawkes emojis. Citizens begin to stroll the streets without fear of persecution or attack. TV reporters interview citizens and get their feedback about candidates, the upcoming election and the promise of accountability. Citizens want answers into the truth behind Sutler's rise to power. Others openly tell reporters of personal incidents of harassment, physical assaults and threats made by 'Fingermen'. One grey-haired grandmother turns to the camera and says “The only thing 'Fingermen' deserve from me is the finger.” as she flips her middle finger.

[NEW SCENE]V, having lost some of his fighting finesse, remarks to Evey how difficult it would be to continue as a freedom fighter vigilante. (side camera shot) V (masked) is fencing with his suite of armour and accidentally knocks over the whole statue. Evey, in the kitchen, is startled by the commotion and rushes to see what happened. She comes across a mess of debris, a rolling armour helmet and an embarrassed V. “V? Jeepers, V. Don't trash the place. Haven't you done enough demolitions?” V coyly answers “Uh ...yes dear... but I need some more fencing practice. (pauses) I've certainly lost some technique and agility. (loud sigh) I don't know if I can keep on veracious vigilantism ...?” Evey responds sympathetically "You don't have to, it's not necessary... Besides, you're retired now.” V chuckles "Oh really?". Evey asks (a bit peeved) “Why are you smirking under your mask?” V : "How did you know I'm smirking?" Furrowed brow, she moves right up to his mask, gives him a grin and replies "Because you're too stubborn to quit.” V bursts out laughing "My love, you know me too well.” They embrace and he asks in a, deep, breathy romantic tone “Dance with me.” Evey replies “Of course. Pick something vivacious.” 'Hold On' (by Ian Gomm), 'In Vogue' by JAPAN (or) 'She' by Charles Aznavour is the music (change lyrics of 'She' to 'V'. They dance. (intermittent camera shots of the lively, spirited couple)

[NEW SCENE]Early evening, V and Evey seated close together on the sofa, watch the TV as news reports point a finger at Finch as a co-conspirator. Finch is under investigation by Scotland Yard for presumed evidence tampering (the missing armour breastplate), etc. and is temporarily demoted to a desk job. Evey remarks that it was her whom removed the items from the crime scene, citing they belonged to V. "V, they're blaming Finch. That's not fair! He didn't take any of your stuff. I took your hat, armour and knives. We can't let them frame him. He'll be executed.” Evey and V look at each other knowing they have to intervene. V caresses Evey's chin and re-assures her "Don't worry. I'll come up with a plan so, together, we'll both help him.” It's game on.

[NEW SCENE]Early evening, Evey is reading a newspaper at the kitchen table. The 6 o'clock news can be heard on the TV in the background. She sees a stranger walking past the piano and is startled. She looks around and doesn't see V anywhere so she reaches for a steak knife and creeps up behind the intruder. (Closeup of the “stranger”) Evey surprises the man by coming in from behind, holding the knife with her left hand, directly under his left side chin. “Don't move ... Uh, Uh, nooooo ... Hands up where I can see them.” (The man freezes in fear and slowly extends his hands upward)(pause) “Who are you and what are you doing in MY home?” Evey pushes the knife tighter against his chin, his head tilts upward in fear as he replies (frightened, breathing heavy) “Evey, it's me. It's just me.” Evey: “V?” V (gulps): “Yes ” Evey retracts the knife, comes around to face him and says “Jeepers. I thought you were an intruder.” V (dressed as Rookwood) exhales in relief and says “Wow, your stalking ability is stealthy. I didn't hear you approach.” Evey asks sternly “Why are you dressed like that?” V: “To meet Finch tonight.” Evey (disapprovingly) “What, dressed like that?” V: “Why, what's wrong with it?” Evey: “You're ugly” V (stunned, pausing): “But ... is it convincing?” Evey : “Well yeah... convincingly ugly. You know V, you look much more handsome in person.” V (shocked as he abruptly gawks at Evey) “Really? No, ... really? But I can't go out without covering up.” Evey (sighs) “I know. But promise to take that stuff off when you get home.” V: “I will but aren't you coming with me?” Evey (pauses and looks around, then back at V) “Oh, hmmmm ... I suppose I should. But what to wear?” V (holds up two wigs) “Pick one.” Evey puts down the knife on the piano and picks the blonde wig, moves right up to V's face and says “You know, they say blondes have more fun.” V turns his head sideways, upwards, remarks proudly while stroking his hair “I wouldn't know. I'm a brunette.” Evey laughs “You are NOT a brunette. You are a RED...HEAD. Ha ha ha.” as she pinches his cheeks.

V groans “And you are being cheeky. But ... I have something nice for you to wear.” (grabs a jacket off the piano) “Try this.” Evey slips on the jacket (identical to V's), zips it up to her sternum and says “Wow, this is so soft and comfortable. Perfect size too.” V: “It's waterproof, breathable, flexible and most important, it's bullet resistant and stab resistant.” Evey's smile turns to a concerned glance, her eyes wide open. “Whaaaaa, why would I need it bullet and stab resistant?” V flicks his finger under her chin, tilts her head up and zips the high collar completely closed. Evey quietly gasps as V leans into her face and replies sarcastically “In case someone creeps up from behind and holds a knife to your throat. Ha Ha Ha.” as he pinches her cheeks. Evey rolls her eyes, grimaces : “And you're calling me cheeky. Sheeesh.” V: “Takes one to know one.” Evey (smiling) : “Touche.” They hug each other and V says “Come on, we should go now before Finch arrives home.“

[NEW SCENE]At night, they both track down Finch as he arrives home. V (stepping out of a shadowy corner): “Good evening Mr. Finch”. Finch sees Evey and “Rookwood” and knows it's V. In disbelief and shock, Finch mumbles “Oh. Jesus Christ.” V: “Not exactly.” Finch: “I thought you were dead on the train.” V: “Close. I was very close, so your observation was not overly unrealistic.” Finch: “Are you here to kill me?” V: “No, quite the contrary. Evey and I saw the news and your dilemma. We'd like to offer a "remedy" to the lingering pestilence of Norsefire-loyal investigators.” Finch: “What sort of remedy?” V: “Allow Evey and I to “execute” the details in your absence, on your behalf. All we ask is for a list of names and clear photos left under your door mat. Take this chalk and mark your door X if you want our help. Oh, and if you do, I strongly suggest you work several consecutive late evenings until at least, oh, 9 pm.” Finch: “As an alibi?” V: “Somewhat. Just an added safeguard for all three of us.” (Finch is apprehensive but he ponders the idea.) V: “You and I both know how serious your predicament is Mr. Finch. You may not have any other options to clear your name and alleviate their witch hunt.” Finch (looks at both V and Evey) : “Why are you so willing to help me?” Evey: “First off. You let me send the train with the explosives. You didn't arrest me. No hand cuffs.” V: “And you didn't kill her. You had ample opportunity and reasonable grounds to do so.” Evey: “Yeah.” V: “But what I am most grateful for, your inaction to let Evey get away allowed us to reunite. (V hugs Evey) She saved my life. It couldn't have happened if you had intervened otherwise.” V holds up a piece of chalk . Finch (tight lipped, flared nostrils, terse face, looks at Evey and V, takes the chalk and mumbles) “Thanks.” V: “Good evening Mr. Finch.” Finch mumbles : “Good evening.”

Evey (in a chipper tone) “Bye.” V and Evey quickly slip away into the dark, leaving Finch standing in front of his entrance with a long, pensive face.

[NEW SCENE]V continues practising his fighting tactics and begins showing Evey some basic knife-handling and throwing techniques. V: “I want you to practice some basic knife throwing. Accuracy and focus are of greatest importance.” V escorts her to a long, narrow room where V has work benches with tools, wire, bomb making supplies, etc. and a target set up at one end. V gives Evey her own black fencing uniform and the two become a matched tag team. V: “Here are a few well balanced knives. Get a feel of their weight, their forward momentum and the distance to the target. Start by reaching overhead, like throwing a ball, and release when your hand is at 30 degrees above the horizontal plane. Watch my posture. Like this.” V takes one knife and lunges forward like a baseball pitcher. Bulls eye. Evey takes a bucket of knives and V leaves to make lunch. V: “I'll come back when lunch is ready. And remember to focus.” Evey: “Thanks V.” V leaves and Evey starts holding, fiddling with the knives. V (in the kitchen) has been making a large bowl of tossed salad and is draining boiled shrimps. He hears crashing and loud bangs and is particularly startled by a huge thump. He rushes in to check on Evey and is taken aback with absolute shock. (camera pans the wall at end of the room) Holes everywhere in the gypsum but none on the target. Evey (embarrassingly avoiding eye contact with V) glances at him as he crosses his arms and exhales in disappointment. She looks at him and then gestures upwards. V notices and looks up to find on knife sticking out of the ceiling. In silence, he groans, drops his head, shaking it side to side then holds Evey by the waist and hoists her above his head so she can pull out the knife. He puts her down and says in serious tone. “Lunch is ready.” Evey: “Okay. But I think I should practice more later.” V: (moans) “Yes. I think that's a good idea. And I'll be supervising this time.” They return after lunch and (short quick camera shots – no dialogue) Evey soon develops more accuracy and improved results much to V's delight, applause and approval. Pats on the back, thumbs up and his arm around her shoulder for congratulations.

[NEW SCENE](side view camera shot) V and Evey sit at the kitchen table with a folder of photocopied photos of three lead investigators provided by Finch. (close ups of names FOX /ASHLOCK/DOPH, home addresses and clear images) V: “This will be number one. Fox. Even his name sounds sly.” Evey: “More like slimy.“ V: “We'll go out tonight and wait for him near his home.” They both talk and discuss each

photo and devise a scheme for each target.

[NEW SCENE]In the evening, around 6:30pm it's already dark as Fox arrives at his front door and sees a package delivery notice hanged on the handle. “Second attempt at residential delivery will be before 7 pm.” He enters, disarms an alarm and puts down his briefcase. A minute later, Evey emerges from the shadows and knocks at the door. He answers. Evey (dressed as a delivery driver, holding a clipboard) : “Good evening Sir. I was just going back to my truck when I saw you arrive. I have a package. Are you Mr. Shox?“ (reverse camera shot over Fox's shoulder) Fox replies in a snarky tone: “It's Fox.” Evey : “My apologies. It's a bit dark to read the name.” (frontal shot )Fox: “Well? Where's my package?” (reverse shot of V) Then V pops into view and forces his way into the house promptly covering Fox's mouth, grabbing his throat and forcing the door closed. V: ”Special delivery courtesy of a little bird named Finch.” V tazers Fox and he drops dead. Then V tampers with the light switch to make it look like a short circuit electrocution. Burnt plastic cover, soot on the toggle and burn residue on Fox's fingers. V locks the door from within using a security chain and exits through a ground floor window. No forced entry noticed. As V and Evey walk away into the darkness, Evey jokes : “Well, you certainly took “charge” of the situation.” V: “We deliver shocking results. V for Voltage.” They both laugh. [NEW SCENE]Inspector Doph is driving down a narrow, darkened alleyway. Suddenly, Evey steps out from behind a large industrial garbage bin and tries to flag him down. He slams on the brakes, rolls down the window and yells “What the f*ck?” Evey frantically approaches the car and asks “Please help me. My cat fell from my third floor windowsill and I think he fell in here. I can hear him scratching but I can't see. It's too high.” Doph puts on the parking brakes and gets out. Evey : “If you're tall enough, can you see anything?” Doph (on his toes) grabs the rim and peers over the edge into the bin. V appears from the side and smacks the lid onto his neck pulling downward until a loud crack is heard. He leaves the lid down with Doph's body hanging from the side. V wipes his gloved hands. Evey and V wander down the end of the alleyway as V jests “Next time Evey, you take out the trash.” Evey : “Oh Veeee. Put a lid on it.” V: “I did.” Both are giggling as Evey gives V a gentle arm punch.

[NEW SCENE]Third consecutive night, while V and Evey are tracking Ashlock, V explains to Evey the strict importance of having a visual confirmation of the target's identity. (off camera, V's voice is heard, closeup of Ashlock's photo) V : "Make sure you get the right person and not an innocent civilian. This guy may be walking in very dark surroundings." Evey is dressed similar to V but is wearing her blond wig and slightly tinted glasses. V and Evey follow Ashlock as he is entering a fish n chips restaurant. Evey enters behind him as he orders food. She pretends to peruse the overhead menu while taking glances at the guy to ensure his identity. Ashlock notices Evey's glances and makes sexists remarks to her. "Hey babe, looking for some dessert with your meal? I can give ya something nice tonight. How's about my long ice cream stick with two big scoops?” Evey sternly replies "Disgusting pervert, sicko." as she storms out of the restaurant with patrons and staff starring at the investigator. He looks around and tells everyone to "bugger-off". He leaves the premise with his bag of food and walks down a dark alleyway, the only light is a distant street lamp. Evey starts following him until he notices her approach. He turns around and says "Hey babe, change your mind? You want me for dessert after all?" A shadow appears as V steps behind him. Ashlock turns around to a towering masked V leaning into his face. V (very serious, deep tone) : "Your remarks are very offensive and condescending. I believe you should apologize to my lady friend." Ashlock is mortified, trembling. V promptly whips out one of his knives, holds it to the Ashlock's throat and says slowly, clearly "Put down the bag, look my lady in the eyes and apologize for your rudeness ... NOW.” Shaking in fear, he puts the bag down and as he turns to Evey, she kicks him, full force, between the legs. He keels forward as Evey twirls her own dagger, responds "The only dessert tonight are just desserts." slashing his throat. V claps and praises Evey. "Well done Evey. Very nice, ahem, 'execution' of technique. Bravo.” "Thanks V!" she replies with pride. Then she asks, "What did he buy anyway?"V picks up the paper bag checks the contents and says jovially "Mmmmm, fish n chips. I won't have to cook tonight." Evey asks "Yeah but did he get any coleslaw?" V checks again, shakes his head NO. Evey, very annoyed, says "No coleslaw? What?" and proceeds to kick the body in the head."How can you eat fish n chips without coleslaw?" V is startled but assures "Evey, don't worry, I'll make us a nice salad." Evey asks "The one with the little cherry tomatoes?" V answers lovingly "Of course my dear. Anything for you. Now let's make our way home before the food gets cold." He holds the bag, flips his cape over Evey, embracing her, as they walk towards the light at end of the alley. Their silhouettes walking in a unison stride, Evey asks "He was the last guy on the list, wasn't he?"

Page 16: Inspired by the film 'V for Vendetta' . Directed by James McTeigue, …members.distributel.net/~artemis/VforVendetta-V2.0.pdf · 2020. 7. 17. · Inspired by the film 'V for Vendetta

V tilts his head towards her and says "Indeed. And I look forward to having the rest of the night to ourselves."

[NEW SCENE]Finch's precinct is in chaos since three senior investigators have been found dead in as many days. Two rookie investigators (Pulver and Pestle) barge into Finch's office while he and Dominic eat lunch. He is suspected of the investigators' assassinations. Pulver : “Finch, have you heard what happen to Fox, Ashlock and Doph?” Finch : “A bit but I'm not privy to any investigation info, remember? You'd know more than me.” Pulver : “Well how ironic all three were involved in your case and now they've all been found dead in strange circumstances.” Finch (shrugs his shoulders): “Can't help you. I didn't do anything. Not my problem.” Pulver : “Where were you the last three nights?” Finch : “I've been here, late, all week long. I haven't been going home 'till at least 9 for days.” Pulver gestures to Pestle : “Check his ID logs and hallway cameras.” Pestle looks at a frustrated, pissed Finch with a sympathetic gesture. Pulver turns to Pestle and snaps “Now.” Pestle leaves the office and approaches a shared workstation computer in the nearby corridor. Finch: “Can't get enough satisfaction with this witch hunt?” Pulver: “Well, you may be the wicked witch of the Westminster.” Pestle returns and says “He was here, late, just as he says. Logs, camera footage of him at the water cooler, elevator rides, at the canteen.” Pestle looks at Finch with a sincere nod and smile. Finch returns the gesture. Pulver (pissed off) sees Pestle's nod as Finch raises his voice and says loudly “I should sue all you stinkin' lowlife excuses of investigators for harassment and defamation.” People in the corridor look up with concern and Dominic is silent. Pulver and Pestle turn to leave the office as Pulver growls like an angry dog, slamming the door as he exits. Finch has been vindicated. Dominic (exhales heavily and asks Finch): “Are you really going to sue?” Finch, with angry, squinted eyes, opens his drawer and pulls out Dr. Surridges notes and slaps them onto his desk: “I'm going to do much more than that. I'm going to every bloody TV and radio station to spill to beans. Everyone is going to hear the truth.” Dominic (in shock): “This is going to get ugly.” Finch: “It already is and has been for decades.”

[NEW SCENE](multiple camera shots of TV sets, car radios and home radio broadcasts) Finch goes to the media with numerous TV appearances on talk shows and radio interviews. The BTN, which is now more transparent without Dascombe or Norsefire interference, gives Finch several prime time interviews where he candidly exposes the notes of Dr. Surridge. He had faxed, emailed and mailed

Page 17: Inspired by the film 'V for Vendetta' . Directed by James McTeigue, …members.distributel.net/~artemis/VforVendetta-V2.0.pdf · 2020. 7. 17. · Inspired by the film 'V for Vendetta

dozens of copies to journalists, tabloids and station executives for their preliminary insight – just as V has distributed thousands of masks. Finch talks openly about his demotion, his pending lawsuit and very detailed and specific hypotheses. Surridge's notes go into graphic detail of V's electrocution, injections, starvation, burns, beatings all under the watchful eyes of Prothero and Lilliman. Prothero's vast fortunes from the vaccine and Lilliman's paedophilia are cited. Finch goes on to demand a thorough assessment of the Larkhill property to search for human remains in mass graves, any remnants of medical files or other incriminating (formerly covered-up) evidence. Finch even discloses the bullet which killed Sutler came from Creedy's gun, with evidence photos taken at the scene. (Numerous camera shots show TV viewers and radio listeners) The public, and Evey, get a full, uncensored picture of the devastating history surrounding the Norsefire uprising, the real cause of the virus outbreak, complacent police corruption and V's purpose. New government officials launch formal, thorough enquiries and news footage shows massive graves dug up in the Larkhill backyard. Thousands of skulls, bones, teeth are recovered. TV crews and hundreds of curious onlookers surround the barricaded property and swarm the site with telephoto lenses, video cameras, drones and cellphones. Public opinion sees V as a lone victim whose actions vanquished his torturers. V's legacy is vindicated by TV viewers ... but Evey feels deeply upset.

[NEW SCENE](reverse camera shot, V wearing his mask) V had noticed Evey watching the TV and stayed back to let her hear the truth and absorb the troubling details. He quietly approaches Evey and sees her weeping. V: “Evey, you're crying. Why?” Sitting beside her on the sofa, he cradles her and feels her trembling. Evey (pointing at the TV, eyes full of tears): “Is that true?” He turns off the TV. V (softly): “Yes.” Evey: “They did those things to you?” V: “Yes. For months and to everyone else until they died.” Evey explains how badly she feels about having called V a monster and evil. Evey (sobbing): “I was so unfair. I called you a monster, (pause) and evil,(pause) without knowing what hell you went through. I'm so sorry. Norsefire and Larkhill personnel were the evil monsters. They deserved their fate.” V holds Evey to his heart and tells her "It's all in the past. It's behind us. Now we have each other for the future, a very different, beautiful future." (reverse camera shot of V lifting his mask off, Evey is seen over his left shoulder) He slides off the couch and onto his knees, kisses her on the forehead and then on the lips. V: “We cannot let the past continue to hurt or haunt us. We both have to embrace our legacy and how we became this way. It's our time, our new life together where we

Page 18: Inspired by the film 'V for Vendetta' . Directed by James McTeigue, …members.distributel.net/~artemis/VforVendetta-V2.0.pdf · 2020. 7. 17. · Inspired by the film 'V for Vendetta

need to focus. November 5th is our time, our date, to remember our meeting and celebrate our fate.”

[NEW SCENE]On the following November 5th, V and Evey are getting dressed for a night of festivities. V even puts on cologne and a bow tie onto his jacket. Evey : ”Oh V, mmmmm, are you wearing cologne (closes her eyes, takes a long deep breath) and a tie? You've never done that before. It smells so good. What's the occasion for all this formality?” V: “This is our night ... to remember. Our second anniversary.” Evey gives him a tight bear hug.

[NEW SCENE}V and Evey take an evening walk through crowded streets, both wearing Guy Fawkes masks, as do so many other citizens. They stand waiting in a secluded alleyway. There's a voice from behind. "Good evening Mr. And Mrs. V". V and Evey turn around and see Finch approaching, also wearing Guy Fawkes attire and carrying a mask. V says "Ahhh, Mr. Finch, glad you could join us on this splendid evening." Finch has brought a bottle of champagne, three glasses and straws. V and Evey ask "Is this to celebrate November 5th?" Finch replies "Certainly. But we must also toast our new government and society, courtesy of your instigation, and ... I've won my lawsuit. I've officially retired." V and Evey remark proudly : "Wonderful, congratulations!" Finch pops the cork, pours the drinks and the three clink glasses.

{NEW SCENE]From a nearby rooftop, the trio are being watched through a telephoto camera lens. Two voices can be heard : “Is that him?” “Yeah, and he's with two others.” “Anyone we know?” “Can't tell. One's quite tall, wearing a Fawkes mask but the smaller one, a woman, took her mask off. They're drinking and definitely having a good time.” “Get lots of shots. Maybe we can get a match.” (sound of several camera shutter clicks and images) (up close camera shot of Pulver and Pestle) Pulver: “We'll run her image through the database and see what comes up ...”

[RETURN TO PREVIOUS SCENE]V sips his straw and says "Shall we make our way to the festivities? We'll have a blast." Finch and Evey simultaneously gawk at V in a disapproving glare. Evey: “Veee?” V looks at both Evey and Finch and chuckles "Just joking. Figure of speech." Finch and Evey look at each other, sigh with relief, and the three start laughing as they blend into the jubilant crowd.

[LAST SCENE](dark silhouettes, no facial details, against a backdrop of fireworks and a starry sky, no dialogue) Later in the night, from a dark rooftop (where the demolition of the Old Bailey was witnessed), V and Evey embrace each other. (V is on the left, Evey on the right) V pulls back, removes his hat and mask and drops to one knee. He presents a small box to Evey. She brings her hands to her mouth, gestures with surprise and nods 'yes' several times. V puts a ring on her finger, kisses her hand and in a sudden rush, rises to his feet throwing his arms up in a large V shape. (like when he emerged from the flames at Larkhill). (slow motion) He turns toward the sky and lets out a huge roar as Evey glances up at V in enthralled astonishment and joy.

They reVel in a new world they both inspired to create.
