Why

monitor

your

Energy

Use?

Detect avoidable energy use that might otherwise remain hidden. Flag up anomalies in consumption e.g. malfunctioning equipment, air or water leaks, or lights switched on overnight.

Reduce Energy Costs

Supporting management strategies e.g. control costs, environmental impacts & meet the requirements of environmental/energy system standards e.g. ISO14001, ESOS etc.

Compliance

Target setting, e.g. to reduce waste per KPI by 5 % per year. Calculate energy and carbon targets rationally to reflect achievableperformance – often, targets are set without consideration of practical application or achievability.

Manage Targets

To support investment appraisal/decisions for equipment upgrades & retrofits. Project verification to ensure that anticipated savings e.g. from a lighting upgrade project have been achieved.

Decision Making

Provide feedback for staff awareness & input, improve budget setting & undertake benchmarking.

Staff Involvement

Saves, or leads the savings of upto 25%

of your energy

bills

Verification

• Maximise energy

efficiency project ROI

by using historical

data/costs as baseline

• Report on actual vs.

projected ROI

• Identify variances to

ROI projections by

data-driven reporting

• Make sure that future

ROI plans use actual

“before” data to

maximise savings.

Protect

retrofit

savings &

generation

income

• Alerts on retrofit

equipment outages

• Alerts when generation

unexpectedly

degrades

• Alerts on budgeted

baseline drift

• Use Alerts to instantly

inform you when your

investments stop

working, earning or

saving.

Manage Demand

• Shift demand from

Peak Tariff times

• Select the best

Demand Reduction

scheme to suit

• Optimise on-site

generation to reduce

export

• Shed or shift non-

essential loads during

peak times

Identify energy waste

• Are your Warehouse or

Office Lights on out of

workhours/weekends?

• Are there Compressor

system leaks?

• Is your HVAC set-up

inefficiently?

• Is the Office equipment

on 24 x 7?

The Envisij ROI = SOI (Savings On Investment)

Triple Play 1: Monitoring & Verification Aim: Reduction of base-load,

leading to 5 - 25% energy savings

Page 7: InSiTE, an energy Management System (EMS), technology, benefits and best practice uses

Triple Play 2: Peak Demand Management Aim: Reduction of expensive peak demand tariffs,

resulting in 3 - 6% energy bill savings

Page 8: InSiTE, an energy Management System (EMS), technology, benefits and best practice uses

Triple Play 3: Automated Demand Response (ADR) Aims; generate income from your utility &

assist the stressed grid. 2 - 4% savings.

The Remit. The College wanted to operate a flexible DR scheme that enabled them to change the ADR curtailment

profile “mid-flight”, to either further reduce Central Chiller Plant load, or partially increase building comfort levels.

They also needed the ADR “client” to be able to operate across 3 different BMS systems of various “vintages”.

Triple Play 3: Automated Demand Response (ADR) A case study.

Page 10: InSiTE, an energy Management System (EMS), technology, benefits and best practice uses

ADR Event Outcome

Max Peak Demand Pre-ADR 900kW

Max Peak Demand during ADR 450 kW

Energy Consumed Pre-ADR event 11.2MWh

Energy Consumed Post-ADR event 10 MWh

ADR Reduced Consumption 1.2MWh

Demand Reduced by ADR event 283 kW

Utility ADR incentive per kW curtailed $10.00 per kW

Savings: $2,830

Reduction: 40%

Point 1: ADR event starts

Point 2: ADR Pre-set State 1 Point 3: ADR Pre-set State 2

Point 4: ADR Event Ends

Outcomes: College Facilities deploys EnergiStream to “drive” the campus BMS in 16 different states across 10 buildings. The BMS was

programmed once. The ADR client portal allows the College to pre-select any programmed state that in turn reduces/increases load on the Central Chiller.DR event reduces Central Plant load by upto 40% during peak demand days, therefore offsetting the need for major upgrades entirely or for aconsiderable period. DR rebate from the Utility also contributes to overall energy savings for the College and technology ROI.

Triple Play 3: Automated Demand Response (ADR) 283 kW load shedding over 3 hours.
