Impro-Visor.Theseweredoneinasingleverylongrun,exceptforafewthatIaccidentlyleftoutinthefirstpass.Eachroadmapwasscaledmanuallyfollowing

analysisinImpro-Visorsothatmostfeatureswereshowing,thensnappedfromthescreenandpastedintoaMicrosoftWorddocument,whichadjustedthesizeofeachroadmaptofitthepagewidth.Impro-Visorcurrentlyproducesonlyuniform-scaledroadmaps,i.e.thewidthofeachbaristhesame,althoughthewidth

ofabarcanbeadjusted.OnereasonforthisisthatroadmapscanbeplayedinImpro-Visor,andistrackedbeatbybeat,sowewantthespacingtocorrespondto

auniformmeter.Anotherreasonisthatmakinganon-uniformlayoutisalotmoredifficulttoprogram.

ThepurposeofthisisnottoreplacethecorrespondingsectionofJohnsfinebook.Itispartofaresearchproofofconcept.Itisunderstoodthatsomeofthese

roadmapsareincorrectorsub-optimal.Wewillbeworkingtowardcorrectingproblemsinfutureversions,whichmayentailmodificationoftheleadsheet

(particularlyplacementofsectionandphrasemarks),thebrickdictionary,and,asnecessary,theImpro-Visorsoftwareitself.Hereareafewdifferencesbetween

ourannotationsandJohnElliotts:

Weexplicitlycallouttheinferredkey(buttheremaybetheoccasionalmissinthisarea).

Ourjoinsappearbelowthefirstbrick,ratherthanwedgedbetweentwobricks.

WedontexplicitlycalloutHovers(multiplemeasuresofthesamechord).

Wedonthaveanotionofabortcurrently,althoughsomeequivalencesmaybefoundinouruseofapproachesorstarts.

Wedontgivenicknamestostand-alonechords,e.g.NowhereforbVIandSomewhereforII7.

Whentwobrickshaveanoverlappingchord,thesuffix+...appearsonthefirstbrick.(Thereisacurrentbuginthat,e.g.Cisrecognizedinoverlapfromacadence,whereasCM7isnot.)

Inourcase,aneight-measurelinecanendupreallylongifthereisalotofcomplexity,sooccasionallyfour-measurelinesareusedinstead.(Inthefuture,Iwillprobablygotoafour-measurelineasthestandard,eventhoughparallelstructureisoftenclearerwitheight-measurelines.)

Ingeneral,whenmakingyourownroadmapswithImpro-Visor,itisbesttominimizeunnecessarychordembellishments,asthesearemorelikelytofoilImpro-

Visorsbrickrecognitionalgorithm.
