The goal set for UCLA Athletics is $260M, and the department is on course to surpass that goal. The UCLA Centennial Campaign, which began in 2013, runs until 2019, marking 100 years since UCLA was founded. Athletics' primary objective during the Campaign is to create a financially-sustainable future to build upon its standing as the premier intercollegiate athletics program in the nation. During the first four years of the UCLA Centennial Campaign, the Wooden Athletic Fund has received record annual donations each year and has, for the first time, surpassed 8,000 donors with the recent completion of the 8CLAP8K Campaign to expand WAF membership. For another year, a very limited number of these game-issued helmets will be made available to UCLA donors and fans through an online auction. The helmets will be posted to the auction website following the game on Monday, November 14 and will be auctioned off in two week increments. All proceeds raised through these auctions will go directly to support the Volunteers of America’s Blue Butterfly Village, a local organization that offers subsidized housing for veterans and their children. Absolutely college football. I’ve grown up attending college football games mostly at the Rose Bowl to see the Bruins but also down in Baton Rouge, Boulder, Denver, Tempe, Tucson and recently College Station. The environment and pageantry of college football is second to none. What is your favorite pro sport to follow? The NHL, I’ve grown up a lifelong Kings fan and one of my greatest sports memories was being lucky enough to be in Staples Center for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final back in 2012 when the Kings first hoisted the Stanley Cup. What is your favorite sport to play? On a similar theme here: hockey. I started playing in second grade and played all the way up into intramurals in college. Since you began working at UCLA, what sport have you gotten to like that you never thought you would like? Men’s and Women’s Soccer. Growing up in LA, I wasn’t a very big soccer fan but when you spend time around the UCLA Soccer programs, as with many athletics programs here, and realize some of the great World Cup and Olympic athletes like Lauren Holiday, Sydney Leroux and Cobi Jones that went to UCLA, it’s pretty remarkable. What is your favorite kind of music? Favorite group, band, or musician? Classic rock. My friends like to joke I was born in the wrong generation, but my three favorite artists/bands have always been: Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles and Tom Petty. Where would you like to travel to that you’ve never been to before? One of my goals is to be able to spend around a month traveling around Europe and make it down to Rome. I was a double-major in History and Journalism and as part of my history degree I took multiple classes about Ancient Rome. Cat person or dog person? Dog person. My yellow lab Luke is the absolute pride and joy of the Rosenfeld family and does have his own Instagram and Facebook. What was your high school mascot? We were the Mira Costa Mustangs, same as my Elementary school mascot. Unique fact about yourself? I have been lucky enough to meet three living US Presidents: Barak Obama, George W. Bush and George H. W. Bush. UCLA Basketball remains the nation’s most decorated program with 11 national titles. You can be a permanent part of this legacy, as naming opportunities still exist for this basketball practice facility. Improvements to our basketball programs like the state-of-the-art Mo Ostin Basketball Center will drive recruiting and retention of our blue chip student-athletes and coaches and will keep UCLA where it belongs: amongst the nation’s elite programs. WAY OF GIVING Men’s and Women’s Basketball Opening Doubleheader After the UCLA Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball teams play their exhibition games on November 1 and 3 respectively, the regular basketball season will begin with both teams playing a doubleheader on Friday, November 11. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 6:00pm, when the men’s team tips off to play the Pacific Tigers. The women’s game, also vs. Pacific, follows at approximately 8:30pm, or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the men’s game. One ticket will grant you admission into both games. Both UCLA Basketball programs have been mentioned in preseason rankings; the men’s team has been ranked #16 in the Associated Press Preseason Poll, and the women’s team was ranked #9 in the USA Today Coaches Poll as well as being the Pac-12 Media’s choice to win the Pac-12 Conference this season. UPCOMING EVENT Mo Ostin Basketball Center Topping Out Ceremony – October 13, 2016 On October 13, UCLA Athletics hosted a “Topping Out” Ceremony for the Mo Ostin Basketball Center. This milestone event — the placement of the final beam in the building’s construction — was attended by donors to the Mo Ostin Basketball Center, plus a select group of Wooden Athletic Fund and Men’s and Women’s Basketball scholarship donors, architects and department staff. The program included speeches from Chancellor Gene Block, Athletic Director Dan Guerrero, Head UCLA Men’s Basketball Coach Steve Alford, Head UCLA Women’s Basketball Coach Cori Close, and Mo Ostin, followed by the ceremonial placing of the beam. EVENT RECAP Hall of Fame Induction Weekend – September 30 – October 1, 2016 On September 30th, UCLA Athletics welcomed their newest inductee class to the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame by honoring them in an induction ceremony and dinner at the Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center on campus. Joined by friends, family, and other UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame inductees, the eight inductees of the 2016 class included: Julie Adams (Softball), Natalie (Golda) Benson (Women’s Water Polo), Jamie Dantzscher (Women’s Gymnastics), Baron Davis (Men’s Basketball), Chris Henderson (Men’s Soccer), Adam Krikorian (Water Polo), Mike Marsh (Men’s Track & Field) and Wendell Tyler (Football). Nominations for the 2017 UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame class are now being accepted. The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2016. Attendees took advantage of the opportunity to watch the new team members practice with the returning players for the first time. Following the practice, the Tip-Off Dinner was held in the Pavilion Club at Pauley Pavilion, where guests sat with team members, staff, and coaches. Head Coach Steve Alford gave an inside preview of the upcoming season, and introduced his entire team to guests. It was a great opportunity for guests to meet the new and returning student-athletes and learn more about the team as a whole and individually. Held before the October 22nd UCLA Football vs. Utah game within the Fun Zone in Area H at the Rose Bowl, Bruin alumni from every intercol- legiate sport had the opportunity to visit with former teammates and friends, reliving old times and forming new memories. A live band kept the music going throughout the tailgate and BBQ, and each guest received a special Bruin Varsity Club gift upon entering the tent. This annual event is complimentary for all Bruin Varsity Club Premier Level members. Those who have established UCLA Football scholarships enjoyed the opportunity to get better acquainted with their assigned football student-athletes for the 2016 season in an intimate and relaxed setting. Nearly 70 people were in attendance, and each donor got to know their player and other team members, and more importantly, the student-athletes were given the chance to get to know and thank those individuals who make their scholarships possible. EVENT RECAP UCLA Athletics is pleased to announce its Fourth Annual Holiday Card Contest! In 2013, UCLA Athletics began featuring artwork from our young Bruin fans on the cover of the holiday card. The 2015 featured winners were: Skylar Higgins, age 12, Annie Feldmar-DeVitre, age 11, and Elisabeth Pease, age 9. Men’s and Women’s Basketball Opening Doubleheader After the UCLA Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball teams play their exhibition games on November 1 and 3 respectively, the regular basketball season will begin with both teams playing a doubleheader on Friday, November 11.

The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 6:00pm, when the men’s team tips off to play the Pacific Tigers. The women’s game, also vs. Pacific, follows at approximately 8:30pm, or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the men’s game. One ticket will grant you admission into both games.

Both UCLA Basketball programs have been mentioned in preseason rankings; the men’s team has been ranked #16 in the Associated Press Preseason Poll, and the women’s team was ranked #9 in the USA Today Coaches Poll as well as being the Pac-12 Media’s choice to win the Pac-12 Conference this season.

Mo Ostin Basketball Center Topping Out Ceremony – October 13, 2016 On October 13, UCLA Athletics hosted a “Topping Out” Ceremony for the Mo Ostin Basketball Center. This milestone event — the placement of the final beam in the building’s construction — was attended by donors to the Mo Ostin Basketball Center, plus a select group of Wooden Athletic Fund and Men’s and Women’s Basketball scholarship donors, architects and department staff. The program included speeches from Chancellor Gene Block, Athletic Director Dan Guerrero, Head UCLA Men’s Basketball Coach Steve Alford, Head UCLA Women’s Basketball Coach Cori Close, and Mo Ostin, followed by the ceremonial placing of the beam.

Hall of Fame Induction Weekend – September 30 – October 1, 2016 On September 30th, UCLA Athletics welcomed their newest inductee class to the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame by honoring them in an induction ceremony and dinner at the Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center on campus. Joined by friends, family, and other UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame inductees, the eight inductees of the 2016 class included: Julie Adams (Softball), Natalie (Golda) Benson (Women’s Water Polo), Jamie Dantzscher (Women’s Gymnastics), Baron Davis (Men’s Basketball), Chris Henderson (Men’s Soccer), Adam Krikorian (Water Polo), Mike Marsh (Men’s Track & Field) and Wendell Tyler (Football).

Men’s Basketball Tip-Off Dinner and Open Practice – October 19, 2016 On October 19, UCLA Athletics hosted the 2016 Men’s Basketball Open Practice and Tip-Off Dinner. Attendees took advantage of the opportunity to watch the new team members practice with the returning players for the first time. Following the practice, the Tip-Off Dinner was held in the Pavilion Club at Pauley Pavilion, where guests sat with team members, staff, and coaches. Head Coach Steve Alford gave an inside preview of the upcoming season, and introduced his entire team to guests. It was a great opportunity for guests to meet the new and returning student-athletes and learn more about the team as a whole and individually.

Bruin Varsity Club Homecoming Tailgate – October 22, 2016 Last month, over 200 former UCLA student-athletes, managers, and trainers gathered for the annual Bruin Varsity Club Homecoming Tailgate. Held before the October 22nd UCLA Football vs. Utah game within the Fun Zone in Area H at the Rose Bowl, Bruin alumni from every intercol-legiate sport had the opportunity to visit with former teammates and friends, reliving old times and forming new memories. A live band kept the music going throughout the tailgate and BBQ, and each guest received a special Bruin Varsity Club gift upon entering the tent. This annual event is complimentary for all Bruin Varsity Club Premier Level members.

Football Scholarship Donor Dinner – October 24, 2016 Last month, UCLA Athletics hosted its annual Football Scholarship Donor Dinner on October 24, in Pauley Pavilion. Those who have established UCLA Football scholarships enjoyed the opportunity to get better acquainted with their assigned football student-athletes for the 2016 season in an intimate and relaxed setting. Nearly 70 people were in attendance, and each donor got to know their player and other team members, and more importantly, the student-athletes were given the chance to get to know and thank those individuals who make their scholarships possible. UCLA Athletics is pleased to announce its Fourth Annual Holiday Card Contest! Each year, UCLA Athletics sends a holiday greeting card to all of our donors from the past year to celebrate the holiday season and thank them for their support. In 2013, UCLA Athletics began featuring artwork from our young Bruin fans on the cover of the holiday card. The 2015 featured winners were: Skylar Higgins, age 12, Annie Feldmar-DeVitre, age 11, and Elisabeth Pease, age 9.

We encourage all UCLA Athletics donors to submit an entry on behalf of a child or children ages 12 and younger for a chance to be featured on the 2016 card. Details about the contest will be emailed to all WAF donors soon.
