Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whosesin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the Lordcounts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away, throughmy groaning all day long. For day and night your handwas heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by theheat of summer. I acknowledged my sin to you, and I didnot cover my iniquity; I said, “I wil l confess my transgressions to the Lord,”and you forgave the iniquityof my sin. – Psalm 32:1-5 (ESV)

I Peter 3:18 “For Christ also hathonce suffered for sins, the just forthe unjust, that he might bring usto God,”

Christianity, rather than being ascripted philosophy, is rather the

“Good News” of how helpless, sinful people can be rightly related to God throughmeans of God’s righteous Substitute. When it says above that Christ suffered forsins “the just for the unjust”, it is talking about Christ as the righteous substitutetaking upon Himself the sin of people and suffering and dying in their place.

When a person recognizes his condition and places his faith in Jesus, that faith“is counted for righteousness”. (Romans 4:5) Thereafter, when God looks uponhim He does not see his sins. He sees the clean record of their substitute, JesusChrist. This is called “imputed righteousness.” (Romans 4:22-25) The Father“made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the right-eousness of God in him.” (II Corinthians 5:21)

Jesus “suffered for sins, the just for the unjust.” He was just with no sin at all. Youare unjust with a boatload of it. Everything you did that you should not have doneand everything that you should have done and didn’t you are held accountablefor before a holy God. Since the “wages of sin is death”, (Romans 6:23) you reallyneed to consider placing your trust in the One who is just.
