Community Coffee with West Carroll Students

Wednesday, October 13th Big Meadows held their monthly

sport  they were  in, and what was  their  favorite part of  the

for us.   The residents, students and staff enjoyed donuts and

drinks and spent the hour visiting with one another.   We had

a  great  turn  out  and  went  through  10  dozen  donuts!

Wheels for the World Donation

Katy Rockafellow, daughter of Lee & Jan Rockafellow who attends Clarke University, contacted us at Big Meadows about donations. She says, “Clarke University is proudly part of Wheels for the World, which is an organization that takes old walkers, canes, crutches, & wheel chairs and re-furbishes them for future use. Once refurbished, these items are taken all over the world to individuals in need who do not have the means to obtain these assistive de-vices. Additional information about Wheels for the World can be found at http://www.joniandfriends.org/wheels-for-the-world/.” Big Meadows donated 5 wheel chairs & 5 walkers. Pictured to the left is Victor Preston and Jan Rockafellow (Katy’s Mother).

BIG MEADOWS welcomes

DR. DANIEL WOODS to the position of

Medical Director

On October 1, 2010, Dr. Daniel Woods accepted the position of Medical Director of Big Meadows. Dr. Woods earned his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, and completed his residency at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Dr. Woods has been practicing in Savanna since August 2001 and was named a Rural Physician of Excellence by the Illinois Rural Health Association in 2009.

Dr. Woods has been caring for residents at Big Meadows since he began practicing in Savanna. “Big Meadows is a fun place for me to visit because the staff really seem to care about the residents. I love seeing the hugs and warm smiles.” Dr. Woods’ genuine caring and understanding of the effects of aging make him a favorite among residents and staff alike. When asked what he likes about geriatric care, Dr. Woods replied, “I love geriatric care because the elderly are such a rich resource of history and wisdom. I love to hear their stories about the past”.
