Greetings fellow Mustang enthusiasts!! First, Thank you to all GCCM members who participated in or contributed to our Club Display in this year's Starbird Custom & Rod Show. The Starbird family has thanked us for our continued support and acknowledged the importance of Club groups in their event. The addition of our Club trailer added extra ap-peal to our display and expedited set up and tear down too. Thank you to Jamie and Franca for managing the trailer, not a simple task. I wish to list the participants, not in particular order and not to minimize the support of unmentioned spouses. We had 29 final entries registered... myself, Derek Fritz, Jamie and Franca Johnson, Mel Little, David Bringaze, Doug Goggans, John Brawley, Charles Overgard (2), Bill Brewer, Bob Huntsinger, Rachel Granado, Ward Harris, Melvin Little, Todd Little, Gabriel Rossainz, Billy Jenkins, John Hemby, George Walker, Mike and LeNora Bean, Jim Barnhart, Scott Cool, Troy and Cary Rushing, Bob Eck-land, Tim Berry, Joe Berkley and Jenn Barnette, and David and Sherry Johnson. Jerry and Cheri Bergeron and Steve and Rita Young registered but were unable to attend. We missed them there. We had a plan going in and set up went fast and pretty smoothly. Everyone arrived on time and lined up in good order. Again, Thank you. The banners on our new trailer added a new dimension and we had a nice gathering area with water and snacks... and Bob brought the "Big Chair". The Club gained some new members and our new brochures were distributed to the public. I believe classifications have been opened up some because we had several winners in multiple classes John may have a separate posting of individuals and placement but we had an impressive showing of 15 plaque recipi-ents ranging 1st to 3rd and a 2nd place Best Club Display. The Tulsa Chevy Classics took a 3rd . We were only bested by "Trailer Trash" (their words, not mine). A group of vintage trailers and tow vehicles that did have a new and appealing display. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing Horny Mike of Counts Kustoms, Gene Winfield, and car celebrities pro-vided by Starbird Productions as well as Transformer "BumbleBee". Many photos and signatures resulted. The Counts 77 band played Friday night with Danny of Counts Kustoms as well. There are more stories so ask your friends who were there. I'm sure I can't recount them all. I appreciate the Club and Board for my involvement in this event. Twenty years in this show now and I still anticipate the next. Thank you all. See pages 13 & 14 for pictures of participant Mustangs. Roger Bymun

Oklahoma family asks for birthday cards for WWII veteran with cancer… A family in Marlow Ok is asking people to send birthday cards to a World War II vet. KSWO reports that Recil Troxel, who lives in Marlow, is turning 93 on April 17… the birthday of the Ford Mus-tang. “He sits here in this chair looking out the window every day,” his daughter Liz Anderson said. “When the mail is here, he’s like the mail is here, we better go get the mail.” The WWII vet is under-going cancer treatment, and his family is looking for a way to make him happy. “At that age, if you get something in the mail, you’re just excited because at that age you don’t get bills anymore,” she said. “So, it’s just something exciting for him.” Anyone who would like to send him a card can mail it to 2684 North Highway 81 Marlow, Oklahoma 73055.

    20 Surprising Things Everyone Forgets

    About The Ford Mustang

    #17 - Super Snake

Hearing the words “custom built” is a car lover's dream. Something that's

completely original and designed for the owner's specific needs and desires is a

    guaranteed head-turner on the streets.

There have been many custom Mustangs through the years, but none are as

valuable as the 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake.

The car was one of a kind, and sold for $1.3 million in 2013. Don McCain, a

Shelby sales exec, had a conversa3on with Carroll Shelby and suggested a highly

-tuned Mustang that could compete with the supercars of its day. The result

was the gorgeous and high-speed Super Snake, that achieved 170 miles per

    hour on the track.

"The Green Machine" is a 1965 Mustang Fastback that was built by my daughter,

Lyndsey Li8le. Lyndsey designed this sen3mental, one of a kind Mustang when she was

only twelve years old. I promised Lyndsey that when she turned fourteen years old she

would be able to rebuild her own car under the condi3ons that she did two things: raise

money herself to purchase the vehicle and rebuild it herself.

Lyndsey surfed through the world wide web to find the car of her dreams. She found

a picture of a neon green with black stripes 1965 Shelby GT 350 Clone. I was a li8le

overwhelmed with the contrast of colors and how unique it appeared, but it definitely

    reflected my daughter's personality.

She immediately began work at our local restora3on shop when she was not at

school to save up the money to afford her dream car. The next two years she worked

extremely hard and started to learn valuable informa3on about classic Mustangs while

    raising money.

Two months a>er she turned fourteen she found the Mustang she was going to

restore. The vehicle's price reflected it's quality, three-hundred dollars. She found the car

rus3ng away in a field in Silom Springs, Arkansas and could not have been happier to see

the challenge ahead of her. Lyndsey and I travelled to Siloam Springs, picked up her dream

car, and began our journey home.

We finally made it home and she started on the car immediately. She stripped the

car of every bolt it had and prepared it for the blas3ng and sheet metal specialists.

My First Race Car: (Part 7) by Jerry Bergeron I love Mustangs! I love running Mustangs on a road course. However Mustangs are expensive to track. Car & track modifications were $60,000. Tires are $1800 a set and I go through 2 to 3 sets a year. Front brake rotors are $800 per set (2 sets per year) and rear rotors are $98 per set (1 set per year). Brake pads are $425 per set (2 sets per year). Oil & filter change $200 twice per year. Nut & bolt after each event $200 plus miscellaneous repairs that vary from $1000 to $3000 per year. As you can see it is “NOT” priceless as the credit card commercial says! Note, the Boss302 is not a “Race Car” but just an HPDE track car. So why did I buy a 1991 SM Miata to race when Mustangs are my first love? Purchase 1991 SM Miata race car $12,500 (ready to race) including 4 sets of wheels & tires, spare hood, extra race seat & a bunch of spare parts. Tires cost $920 per set (1 set per season). Front and rear brake rotors $25 each which last all season. Brake pads are $300 per set (1 set per season). Oils & filter $75 twice per year. Nut & bolt I do myself. Now that makes racing affordable! So how can you have fun in a 110 horsepower car after running 500 to 600 horsepower cars for over ten years? Well, you may have time to read a book going down the straight-a-way in the Miata but surprisingly the Miata is nearly as fast as the Mustang in the corners. Yes, the lateral G-Force and speed at the apex is close between the 2 cars. The Miata has no ABS, no power steering or electrics to compensate for you lack of ability as a driver. You truly are the “Wheel Man” in a Miata! The Mustang is a very powerful car with lots of horsepower & torque. You can use the Mustang’s pow-er to make up for driving mistakes, assuming you are still on track and not mowing the grass in one of the turns. On the other hand the Miata is known as a momentum car. A momentum car is one which is lacking in horsepower & torque so it is of extreme importance you maintain your speed in corners. Mess up a corner in the Miata and you will never catch up. Mess up in the Mustang & just apply more gas down the straight. What’s the key to being fast in a momentum car? Well, I’m still working on it. First you have to learn the track. Knowing the driving line is at the top of the list. Remember the terms turn in, apex and track out? Along with the driving line you need to read the track surface such as asphalt patches, pavement camber and elevation changes. As an instructor we teach students what is considered the “Race Line” which happens to be the safe line. The truth is each race car driver must find the “Race Line” that works best for their car & driving style. Starting out as a novice it can be a long road. I can easily run 1:25 laps in the Boss302 but in my first Miata race I only managed 1:39 laps. Several Legend cars lapped me twice in a 12 lap race. I am not use to being the slowest car on the track so my first race was kind of lonely at the back. Cherie asked the track photographer to get some pictures of me racing other cars. Tim just laughed and said Jerry is going to have to catch one first! I new I had to change my driving style to get faster. The Boss302 hits about 120 mph on the straight in 4th gear, brake hard, turn in and gently apply the gas until you are past the apex then go full throttle. In turn 1 you are looking @ 65-70 mph and a lat-eral G force of 1.2. In the Miata I reach about 85 mph in 4th, no brake just breath the throttle and gas pedal to the floor after you turn the wheel! You are still around 65 mph & 1.2 G’s. It took me about half the season to get use to “No Brake Just Breath the Throttle”. By the way, I don’t recommend “No Brake” style in a Mustang! I slowly improved a second each race so by the end of the season I was running 1:32.5 laps which is only 1 ½ second slower than the leaders. And it took 11 laps for the Leg-end car to catch me. I finished 5th for the season out of 16 SM drivers. I had several concerns about racing and not having a pit crew to help fix the car and strap me in to race. Well I have said this many times “Hallett is like one big family” and there is no shortage of help. A special thanks to Jamie & Franca Jackson for all of their help & support. P.S. Tim did get some pictures of me racing other cars! (See next page)

Our new club double-sided tri-fold brochure… in color! We are excited

about our new brochure. For years we’ve had brochures… yet they were

in black and white and really only useful at the Starbird show at our

display. It quickly became obsolete due to the limited calendar events.

We’ve removed the calendar events in order for the brochure to be of

use year-round! If you have a business or know of a business that would

allow promo3on of the club, be sure to grab some at the next mee3ng.

We’ve ordered 500 so we have plenty to go around. Might even look

good under a poten3al members windshield wiper!!
