CLOSER LOOK AT CATCH ME!

• Flip FabriQue is a young circus troupe founded by a group of friends from Quebec City, Canada who flip, spin and fly with the best! They create circus shows that draw from personal experiences (and show off their individual talents) as well as reflect their unique dynamic!

• CATCH ME! (or Attrape-moi, as it is said in French) is a circus show based on the adventures of a group of six friends who take a trip to a cottage for a 10-year reunion. Through their circus talents, they will make you look at sleeping bags and folding chairs in a whole new way!

• Some of the acts performed in CATCH ME! include: Lyra, Banquine, Hula Hoop Acrobatics, Strap Act, Diabolo and Juggling. Read the “Inside the Art Form” section of the School Tool for more information on these acts!

Hoops twirl, diablos whirl and acrobats soar—all in a day's work (or play!) for Flip FabriQue, the new kids on the circus scene. Fun, funny and fresh-faced, this nouveau cirque crew takes athleticism and showmanship to new heights in CATCH ME! (Attrape-moi), a high-flying show that is an explosion of happiness! From bouncing off balance beams to scaling a trampoline wall, these cool acrobats will have you and your students gasping and smiling from ear to ear!

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CATCH ME! FROM?

• French is the official language of the province of Québec, Canada. Over 95% of the population speaks French and approximately 33% also speak English.

• Circus has a rich history in Québec. One of the most famous circuses worldwide, Cirque de Soleil, is also from the province.

How do you think a contemporary circus might be different from a traditional circus?

WHAT DO YOUR STUDENTS KNOW NOW?

LYRA Also known as aerial hoop, a lyra is a metal hoop that is suspended in mid-air. The act combines trapeze-style acrobatics with static poses and postures.

BANQUINE A type of acrobatics where the “base” performer throws the “flying” performer up in the air using only their hands, and catches them by the hands or feet! Flip FabriQue combines this traditional act with a russian bar. This bar is thin like a balance beam and has the flexibility of a trampoline!

HULA HOOP ACROBATICS A performer combines basic floor acrobatics with hula hoops! CATCH ME! performers swing multiple hoops around various parts of her body at the same time!

STRAPS An act similar to Lyra, is performed mid-air. A performer ties two thick straps suspended from the ceiling around his/her hands and wrists, posing, swinging, and flipping through the air in a beautiful demonstration of flexibility and strength.

JUGGLING The act of continually tossing and catching a number of objects into the air, with at least one being aloft at all times. Two of the most basic forms of juggling are ball and club. Flip FabriQue does a combo trick in CATCH ME! where they juggle clubs and jump on a trampoline at the same time!

DIABOLO A juggling act that evolved from the Chinese yo-yo. The Diabolo which consists of an axle and two discs and is spun and tossed using a long string and two hand sticks. In France, Diablo was once so popular that it was played as an alternative to tennis!
