David Malmberg is a seasoned comedic, voice tossing, storytelling, musical performer who
has entertained some of the largest corporations in the country, and shared the stage with
many top music acts in America including Merle Haggard, and The Statler Brothers. By the
time David was 13 he was practicing voice throwing, at 15 his parents purchased a professional
“dummy” for him. The wisecracking antics of the lovable sidekicks Simon Spencer, America’s
grouchiest farmer, Leonard Cribble, and the totally clueless Lars Gunderson, provide one
sizzling laugh after another. David was born to a family of professional musicians, he has entertainment in his blood.

RECENT RETAILDEVELOPMENTCOMMITTEE
SUCCESSES!The Retail Development Committee has been busy over the past couple of years working to use data and a new strategy to help guide our recruitment efforts. Most of us understand that the retail and restaurant environment is changing nationwide, but we still want to see new offerings in our community. I am excited to tell you that we have recently found success.
Since completing a retail and restaurant survey in 2013 and then completing a market area study in 2014, the Retail Development Committee has been implementing a new strategy for retail recruitment. Armed with data, we have spoken with retail brokers who have told us to focus less on national chains and more on a local entrepreneurial spirit. We have taken their advice and we have now seen success.
In 2015, I began to reach out to South Central Nebraska businesses to gauge their interest in Hastings. To date, I have contacted over 40 retailers and restaurants to share our data and talk to them about establishing a business in Hastings. Two of those businesses, Wynk Boutique and Wave Pizza are now a part of our community and we have had conversations with several more which may prove successful. We have seen a 10 percent return on our outreach efforts, but we need your help to identify more of your favorite establishments, so we can continue to push for new businesses. In addition, if you have a new idea for a retail or restaurant establishment, please let us know. We are here to help you make connections and help you understand the Hastings market.
The Hastings retail market is not just 13 square miles and 25,000 people. With a new drive time model we recently ran, we found that due to road improvements over the past couple of years, we have nearly 69,000 people within a 60 minute drive time of Hastings and south of Interstate 80--which is an increase of nearly 20,000 people since 2013. Our recent success has shown that Hastings can attract new retailers and restaurants to our area, but we need your help to build our prospect list. Do you have a favorite store or restaurant from the surrounding area? Please email me at [email protected] and the Retail Development Committee will reach out to them.
Chamber of Commerce,I want to thank you for all that you do for education in the greater Hastings area. We here at Adams Central greatly appreciate it. Respectfully, Shawn Scott

New Educators Appreciation Dinner
Over 30 new Adams County educators
were welcomed to the community and
had a chance to network with their fellow
new educators and businesses within the
community at the New Educator’s Dinner in
mid-September.
The Business, Industry and Education
Committee of the Chamber organizes the
annual dinner and this year’s event was
hosted by the Hastings Museum. During a
sponsored social hour Educators mingled
with a number of people from
the Hastings Young Professionals
organization. The group talked
with the Educators about the
upcoming activities going on
in the community during their
Welcome to Hastings week and
the benefits of joining Hastings
Young Professionals.
Becky Tideman, Museum Marketing Director,
shared a very relevant presentation on
educational opportunities and partnerships
with schools at the museum. A special section
of their website is dedicated to teachers
and can be found at hastingsmuseum.org/
aboutus.
An excellent main course of Pecan Smoked
Pork Roast with all the trimmings and a
dessert was catered by Bullseye’s Sports Bar
& Grille with rave reviews. Over 50 Chamber
businesses contributed to this event by
sponsoring the social hour, dinner costs for
the educators or by providing donations
for a bag of coupons and “goodies” for each
new educator to help welcome them to the
community. Thank you to all those business
sponsors and our Business, Industry, and
Education Committee for a wonderful
evening!
