CONTEMPORARY DANCE

QUESTION 1:What does contemporary dance express? What emotion?

• This sort of dance can express many different emotions/feelings like sadness, anger, happiness and I think every emotion/feeling.

• The dancer usually tells a story when they are dancing they use the actions and their facials to tell the story.

• People say that the music decides the emotion/feeling.

• I think that it is true but others say that you create the feeling/emotion.

QUESTION 2:Why does this dance seem different to other types of dance? What's the difference? Similarity?

• Contemporary dance isn’t that different compared to the other types of dance, it is similar to modern dance, Jazz but it is not similar to Ballet.

Difference:•It is a lyrical and expresses whatever emotion/feelings you have.•When people usually do contemporary dance they are telling a story.•Contemporary dance uses most of the space around you.

Similarity:•They are both dance, even though they are different there the same.•They are both probably telling a story but the story can be a different emotion/feeling.•In both you can have a group, individual or a partner whilst dancing.

QUESTION 3:What's the history of contemporary dance?

• Some people say that ballet and modern dance are related to contemporary dance. Contemporary dance is like ballet but not. I know that doesn't make sense but contemporary dance is a relaxed and less strict version of ballet.

• There is a history of contemporary dance before the 1950‘s.

• No one really knows who created contemporary dance but there are big names in the industry of dance like Martha Graham she is known to be the queen of contemporary dance.

QUESTION 4:What other types of dance are there?

• Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip hop, Modern, Swing, Contra, Country, Western, Belly dance, Flamenco, Latin dance, Folk dance, ballroom dance, Contemporary dance etc.

• There are many different types of dances these are only a few.

• Different people choose to different dance’s mostly lyrical, modern or ex ballet dancers choose to be contemporary dancers.

QUESTION 5:How does the music effect the feeling/emotion of the contemporary dancer?

• The music in contemporary dance is pretty important. If you felt happy and you were dancing to music that expressed anger and hatred it would be pretty hard to tell your story.

QUESTION 6:What type of shoes do you wear when dancing in contemporary?

• For feet, you can wear socks, jazz shoes, or toe undies. People also like to wear tube socks.

• Foot Undeeze/Foot Thongs

• You can wear anything but the most common and the best idea is the suggestions up above.
