Innovative Technologies
Improving The Construction
Industry
New Technologies are having amazing benefits on the
construction industry, including safety,
productivity, efficiency, and much more.
Wearable Smart Sensors: Wearable technology is helping to improve the safety of construction workers on the jobsite. Smart sensors are now being used in worker’s
boots, watches, hard hats, harnesses, and other safety gear as well.
These sensors help track the condition of workers on the jobsite, helping to monitor
body temperatures or alerting foreman if an impact to the
hard hat takes place. Furthermore, boot sensors
can monitor how long workers have been on their feet,
allowing them to track the amount of time between
breaks.
Tool Tracking: Missing tools cost construction companies millions of dollars each year. Not to mention, misplaced
construction tools can create serious walking hazards.
A way to combat this problem is to outfit machinery, hand tools, and power tools with barcodes. At the beginning and end of each workday,
scanning these barcodes with digital barcode readers helps
construction companies better track their equipment.
Mobile Apps: There are now a number of construction-
focused apps on the market, including CAD apps that allow
you to instantly make changes to the building
blueprints.
In addition, there are apps that help managers keep
better track of supplies, from concrete columns to roofing materials. The information they gain from these apps
can help them calculate more accurate estimates for future
jobs as well.
Drones: Construction companies are now hiring
drone pilots to survey construction sites in heavily
congested and remote locations. They can also be
used to monitor construction sites and make quick updates on the progress of a project.
Technology is advancing at an amazing rate and is
completely refining how we live our lives. These examples are just a quick look into how the construction industry is being impacted by these
technologies. Over the next decade we will certainly have even more amazing advances
to look forward too.
