Seam Sealer• Adhesive white tape that is pushed

through heated chutes – bonding it to the fabric. The white tape can then be pealed off to reveal the adhesive

• This can then be used to hem a garment by folding the fabric back on itself.

Bonded Binding

• Coated Binding with adhesive applied to one side of the Binding which is pushed through pressurised heated zones.

• Heated chutes and belts utilising hot air transferring heat onto the binding to melt the adhesive and cover the seam.

Industrial Domestic

What is Embroidery?A sewing machine or embroidery machine is used to create patterns on textiles. It is used commercially in product branding, corporate advertising, and uniform adornment. Hobbyists also machine embroider for personal sewing and craft projects.

In my project I plan to use the Ultrasonic welding machine to construct a waterproof jacket for my older consumer. I also like the idea of using the bonding machine because the non-sewn technology would suit my target market so the garments are comfortable to wear and won’t catch or irritate.

How these technologies can be used in my project:

Due to my project being based around running wear for an elderly female, I have decided to keep function a priority. As a result, 3D printing isn’t suitable for example, and I shall be using technologies such as the laser cutter for decoration. The PFAFF Ultrasonic Welding machine is another that might add another dimension to the designs. The non-sewn technology shall be suitable for the skin also, especially with movement through exercise, causing less rubbing.

Fabrics shall be knitted (stretch) for the majority of the garments for performance enhancement. However, a few garments such as shorts, shall be woven e.g. Cotton with elastane for comfort purposes.

Thinking within the properties of exploring technologies to manufacture clothing I decided that using the 3D printer for creating detail embellishment. The 3D printer creates 3D copies of unique shapes and designs that can be attached on to garments or can also be used as jewellery and accessories. My consumer is a young adult with outgoing taste so therefore feel that using something creative like the 3D printer will give a unique touch. The 3D printer will print using plastic but this can be adjusted and painted.

Taking into consideration my consumer being young girls with larger busts and small waists the body scanner is an effective technology to use to ensure precise measurements are taken and understanding of the body shape. The body scanner takes different view point pictures of the consumer and gives a full range of measurements. This is helpful as it will give me a clear understanding of the body shape I need to take into consideration when creating my designs as well as understanding where to place darts when creating my final garment.

Proposed Technologies – Danielle Barnes

• Project is based on plus size - garments that enhance a women's shape,

• Use of the ultra sonic welding machine on the seams - strong and durable,

• Incorporate a laser cut design on one of my garments- used over main material,

• Materials being used will be woven.
