Testing solutions for protection and measurement systems
OMICRON’s testing solutions for secondary equipment are characterized by outstanding flexibility, accuracy and reliability. Whether it is energy supply companies, industry or railway companies – CMC test sets are used extensively throughout the world and have become an indispensable tool for protection engineers. Due to their high precision, CMC devices are deployed for calibrating substation equipment as well.
The CMC 356 is the universal test set for all generations and types of protection devices. Its powerful current sources even allow tests with very high power requirements, such as current and voltage transformers testing with primary injection.
With its compact design and low weight, the three-phase test set CMC 353 provides the perfect combination of portability and power. It is ideal for maintenance and com-missioning tasks, particularly in industry, distributed generation, and medium- and low-voltage applications.
The CMC 256plus is the ideal solution for applications requiring a high degree of ac-curacy. It is not only a universal test set for protection devices but also a very accurate calibration tool for energy meters, power quality measurement devices, transducers, phasor measurement units, and many other devices.
The small and light-weighted CMC 850 is dedicated to IEC 61850. It focuses on the real-time communication methods GOOSE and Sampled Values to interface with the devices under test. The CMC 850’s embed-ded functions provide additional IEC 61850 functionality.
The powerful Test Universe Software is an integral part of the CMC test system. It offers comprehensive functionality for manual and auto mated testing of protection and measurement devices via a PC. For the CMC 356, CMC 353, and CMC 256plus the CMControl offers an alternative way of operation. This easy-to-use front panel control is particularly suitable for quick and easy manual testing.
In addition to the CMControl, a wide range of other accessories is available for the CMC test sets, for example, GPS receiver, polarity checker, and scanning heads for meter testing.
In many modern substations IEC 61850 is already an important element of the protection and control systems. For these environments OMICRON also provides convincing testing solutions.
All protection-related test modules of the Test Universe Software support testing with GOOSE and Sampled Values. In addition, OMICRON offers two PC tools specifically for testing with IEC 61850.
> IEDScout IEDScout is a universal test client for IEC 61850 devices. The software additionally detects and displays GOOSE data on the network. GOOSE messages for testing purposes can be simulated with IEDScout.
> SVScout SVScout subscribes to the Sampled Values streams from merging units and displays the waveforms of the primary currents and voltages. It offers numerous functions for analyzing the received data.

Test & diagnostics solutions for primary assets
Typical customers of OMICRON’s comprehensive product line for primary testing are engineers and technicians working mainly in;

OMICRON test equipment is also used for automated measuring of resistances (contact, winding, and grounding resistances, cable impedances), and for single-phase testing of secondary protective relays.
The multi-functional primary test system provides for the automated testing of power transformers, instrument transformers, and resistance testing. With the following ac-cessories its area of applications can be extended:
> With the CP TD1 it can measure capacitances and dissipation factors (power factors) with laboratory precision and carry out tests and diagnoses on power transformers.
> With the coupling unit CP CU1 it forms a unique measuring system for substation commissioning (safety measurements at the earthing grid, step-and-touch-voltage measurements, and line and ground impedance measurements).
> The current booster CP CB2 is for testing applications requiring currents up to 2,000 A.
> The transformer switch box CP SB1 supports measurement of ratio and winding resistances and tests tap changers of three-phase power transformers.
The CT Analyzer automatically determines all relevant current transformer values and compares the results with the selected standard. Within seconds the device evaluates the current transformer according to the relevant IEC or IEEE standard with the push of a button.
The dielectric response analyzer offers a fast two-channel measurement of insu-lation systems in power and instrument transformers, bushings, cables, and generators. In oil-paper insulated dielectrics the moisture content can be determined.

Sweep frequency response analysis detects and diagnoses defects and faults in the windings and magnetic core of power transformers.
OMICRON’s high-precision modular acquisition and analysis toolkit for detecting, recording and analyzing partial discharge events in many applications.
The acoustic partial discharge localization system determines the failure locations via multiple sensors spread over a transformer.
The precise measurement and analysis system for measuring dissipation factors (power factors) and capacitances on high-voltage equipment.
These partial discharge measuring systems makes the well-established OMICRON technology available for on-site online monitoring applications.
Primary Test Manager (PTM) softwareThe PTM software, in conjunction with the CPC 100, gives active workflow support for analyzing the condition of power transformers, bushings, instrument transformers and other assets.
It guides the user during several test procedures and measure-ments. PTM meets the relevant IEEE and IEC standards.
It supports the definition and management of test objects, the dynamic creation of test plans, measurements, and generation of reports.
