Introduction: How to achieve sustainable transport?
Overview: . Role of Directives ++ (e.g. on alternative fuels) . The EC Support Pipeline . Start: Research (H2020) . Then: Demonstration (H2020) . Final: Market introduction (TEN-T/CEF)
» Pilot to avoid expensive mistakes later (studies with integrated deployment)
» Rollout (works)
Discussion: How can the Corridor instrument maximise the benefits?
Note: There is some (limited) overlapp between H2020 and TEN-T/CEF

Clean Power for Transport - A strategy for the long term substitution of oil in all transport modes
a coherent policy framework that guides investments
+ sustainability and competitiveness
A Directive 2014/94 on the deployment of infrastructure for alternatively fuelled vehicles and ships,
with common standards and consumer information MS will prepare National Policy Frameworks
and submit them by end 2016
Minimum infrastructure coverage
with common standards required
Urban – areas of predilection to start deploying
alternative fuels infrastructure and make the link
with the long distance – TEN-T Urban Nodes
10 years of EU support for R&D: Green eMotion, FREVUE, ZEEUS, LNG Blue Corridor,
CIVITAS projects (www.civitas.eu)
Now time for deployment (pilot projects and works)!!!

R&I along EU Corridors
- Research per mode & cross-modal (ITS, Logistics, Urban, Infrastructure, etc.)
- 2-way feedback loops between Corridor implementation and R&I
- Corridors as first implementers of R&I results
H2020 complementing CEF
- EU R&I funding complementing CEF funds (and other EU / ESIF funds)
- Plus: CEF itself could also be used for "Innovation" activities
EU Research & Innovation in Transport (MOVE C2)
Key role for Member States to leverage R&I results along the Corridors
bridging the implementation gap
| 5 Transeuropean Networks Mobility & Transport

Q & A SLIDE
| 6 Transeuropean Networks Mobility & Transport
TEN-T/CEF Innovation & New Technologies (MOVE B1 & B4)
. Scope and objective: deployment of new technologies (NT) and innovation in all transport modes according the Article 33 a - d.
» General objective: TEN-T keeping up with state of the art developments, while complementing Horizon2020
» All modes of transport incl. any combination
» Studies & Works
» Studies (with integrated pilot deployment) "Pilots" "Pilot activites"; up to 50% of eligible costs, cohesion countries up to 85%
» Works for the roll-out, e.g. along an entire corridor; up to 20% of eligible costs, cohesion countries up to 85%
» Freight and/or passenger transport
» Transport infrastructure and facilities
» On TEN-T network, ie including a solution for the long distance (not just in urban nodes)
Finding one's way

TEN-T/CEF : Market-sided Innovation
. Market-sided innovation versus research-sided innovation
» No research! No demos either! . Focus: Only new technologies ready for deployment, . Studies with integrated deployment "Pilot activities": "experimental nature"
» Real-life trials (not just a demo) – business-client relation
» (1) Innovation on technologies
» (2) Innovation of processes: consumer-oriented business model
» Aiming for viability (replace by cost-efficiency if viability makes no sense)
» Study at the end of trial: lessons learnt & analysis on how to scale-up to rollout . Works: "experiments are over, people know what they are doing"
» Roll-out on (significant part of) corridor… into the market!

Multi-annual & Annual Innov. Calls
. Up to 5% of CEF transport budget, i.e. up to € 1.3 billion . First CEF Innovation Calls on 11 Sep 2014 (deadl. 26/2/15) . Multi-annual Programme
» Indicative Budget: € 290 million (130 million reserved for cohesion countries) (*)
» Core Network, emphasis on Corridors . Annual Programme
» Indicative Innovation Budget: € 20 million
» Comprehensive Network without core network
Note: (*) Projects involving cohesion and non-cohesion countries require 2 separate proposals with cross-reference.

Relation to Innovation, as mentionned in other CEF Calls
. In General:
» Innovation primary feature -> innovation calls
» Innovation secondary feature -> other calls (MoS, Urban Nodes, etc). . Example:
» MoS MAP call (priority 4): "…innovation…"
• MoS is primarily a logistics expression, i.e. Hinterland-Port-SeaLeg-Port-Hinterland is essential
• MoS therefore requires at least 2 different ports in the proposal (at least 1 core netw)
• Innovation Calls: single port is ok
Note: Applications under the Innovation Calls have therefore an inbuilt simplification!
