Priorities of the Mining Industry in Canada

An array of recent interviews and reports from Deloitte, Canadian Chamber of Commerce,

Ontario Jobs and Prosperity Council, and the Canadian Task Force on Competitiveness,

Productivity, and Economic Progress have cited the top priorities for the mining industry:

Relative to OECD members,

Canadian mining companies lag

behind in R&D investment

Priority is to focus on

production capacity with desire

to partner with “innovation

brokers” to identify, showcase,

expedite, and “screen” potential

solutions to complex problems

Improving Productivity and

Competitiveness

Recruiting and Retaining a

Skilled Workforce

Ensuring the Health and

Safety of Workers

Significant concern about

pending retirement of aging

workforce and transition of

knowledge

Continued growth will require

the recruitment and retention

of domestic and foreign skilled

workers

Health and safety is a priority

concern to maintain positive

and productive work

environment

Continued training and skills

updating required and

validation / compliance of

training records required at

the person-level
