The Short Summary Of Computer

Historyy The first use of µcomputer µ was recorded in 1613,

referring to a person who carried out calculations or

computations, and the word continued to be used inthat sense until the middle of the 20th century.

y From the end of the 19 th century onwards though,

the word began to take on its more familiar meaning,

describing a machine that carries out computations.



y Professor John Atanasoff and graduate student

Clifford Berry built theworld's first electronic-digital computer ABC atIowa State Universitybetween 1939 and 1942.

y The machine was notprogrammable, beingdesigned only to solvesystems of linear equations.



y Howard Aiken and

Grace Hopper designed

Harvard Mark 1Computer at Harvard

University in 1944.

y It was used by the US

Navy for gunnery andballistic calculations.



y John Presper Eckert and

John W. Mauchly made
