EXCELLENCE INNOVATION EQUITY COLLABORATION
District Goal: WE empower all students to achieve post-‐high school success. The Beaverton School District recognizes the diversity and worth of all individuals and groups. It is the policy of the Beaverton School District that there will be no discrimination or harassment of individuals or groups based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, marital status, age, veterans' status, genetic information or disability in any educational programs, activities or employment.
Read for Goats Winter Challenge Last year, Findley participated in the“Read for Goats” Challenge through a partnership with Cedar Mill Community Libraries and Mercy Corp. The reading hours contributed to a donation of two pairs of goats for a family living in a rural area. This year, PTO is sponsoring a pair of goats for every grade level if the goal is met! Students may count at-home reading from December 3rd through Winter Break. All recording sheets are due Friday, January 6th. The attached information and a recording sheet was also sent home with your child earlier this week. "!
Findley Giving Tree Please join us as Findley gives back and supports some wonderful and deserving families in need in our local community. For those interested in participating, select a “star” from the Giving Tree in the main office. Please return all wrapped items to the office by Monday, December 12th. If you are interested in participating but unable to make it to the office, please use the attached form to send with your child to select for your family. If you have a twin bunk bed you are looking to get rid of, consider donating to this year's Giving Tree! Please contact Emily Gotfried or the main office if you are interested in donating 503-356-2100. Thank you so much for supporting our community members in need this season! !
Car Drop Off and Pick Up Parents dropping off and picking up
students by car are asked to use the lower parking lot when doing so. Please refrain from using adjacent neighborhoods and businesses to park and walk to and from
school each day. This is not only a courtesy to those impacted, but also has safety
implications for our students.
5th Grade Parent Night at Stoller Thursday, December 8th @ 6:30pm
If you have any questions please call Stoller at 503-356-2680 !
THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THE OREGON FOOD BANK!
Thanks again for caring, sharing, and helping stamp out hunger! Findley
raised $1,098.83 which allows the OFB to distribute about 3,296 meals just from the monetary donations. Plus, there was the 1,131 pounds of food collected in the bins for another 943 meals, with a grand total of 4,236 meals! The meals will touch and improve 4,236 people’s lives right here in our local community. Thanks again for your donations! !

Early Release/TeacherCollabora1on !StarLng in September 2017, the Beaverton School District will implement a 90-‐minute early release on Wednesday aQernoons to allow teachers Lme to collaborate and parLcipate in professional development opportuniLes. The schedule change is a result of the new contract between the District and the Beaverton EducaLon AssociaLon. The agreement adds nine student days over the next three years. !We recognize the impact this change will have on families and childcare may be a challenge. We are exploring opportuniLes for addiLonal aQer school acLviLes with the Beaverton EducaLon FoundaLon and other community partners. The District recognizes this fact and has already begun the planning process. Some of those steps include weekly planning meeLngs, conducLng parent focus groups and regular communicaLons about the change. Much of the work is focused on determining how to support families and students in the transiLon. !An overview of the purpose and plan was presented at the November 16th PTO meeLng. Parents are invited to bring their quesLons to this year’s scheduled Principal Chats on December 6th, January 24th, and March 7th. !The District has developed an Early Release/Teacher CollaboraLon webpage. There is a link to this page on our school webpage in the “School Resources” box. The webpage includes an FAQ that may contain answers to many of your quesLons. !Planning for Early Release/Teacher CollaboraLon will conLnue to take place throughout the 2016-‐2017 school year. Please check the District’s BSD Briefs newsle`er, our school newsle`er and the Early Release/Teacher CollaboraLon webpage for updates.

BSD Unveils new My Stop™ app to track your child's school bus
We know that you are busy and want to make the most of your
time. Wouldn't it be great to know when the bus will get to your
child's stop each morning? The Beaverton School District's
Transportation Department has partnered with Versatrans® to
bring you the My Stop™ bus information app. !
Available for both iOS and Android, My Stop™ gives you the ability to know exactly where your
child's bus is on the route. The app pinpoints the bus's location on a map, as well as provides the
estimated time of arrival to a specific student's bus stop. The
app uses the District's GPS system. The location is updated
every five seconds and the estimated time of arrival is
recalculated due to traffic delays. The app will come in especially
handy during inclement weather. !The District has been testing the app for several weeks and it is
now available for free for parents/guardians and students.
My Stop™ requires very little setup, especially for parents and guardians. Usernames are tied to
specific students. All a parent needs to do is log in using the student's ID # as the username
and the student's birthdate as the password. !
If you have questions about the new app, please see the FAQ on the Beaverton School District's
Transportation webpage. !

Art Literacy highlights
Paul Cézanne
Art Literacy is a volunteer-run
program that provides six art
lessons a year to Findley students.
Volunteers visit each classroom to
present a lesson and lead an art production in the style of the
artist. Students are currently learning about impressionist artist
Paul Cézanne and creating a landscape using Cézanne’s
characteristic “blocks of color”. Ask to see your child’s artwork
when it comes home! For information on Art Literacy visit http://www.findleypto.com/volunteering/art-literacy/
