My BriefTo design a contemporary social space for all occupants of the location. The space should be versatile and be able to withstand all climates. The design should exemplify the juxtaposition between the old and new architecture throughout both locations.

ResearchI researched into buildings that had been improved by adding a modern piece of architecture. Whether this was touching the physical building or simply built next to. I looked at The Louvre, the National Gallery of Art and the Royal Ontario Museum. Each used architecture to solve a problem they had, from not enough space to building a whole new entrance.

Idea 1Design a large free standing outdoor canopy that can be used to shelter a social area. It could be used as a location for an event related to the university.

Idea 2Design a floating platform that has the capability to move in between locations. It should have room for a seating area and possibly be used as a location for events.

Idea 3Design a seated area beside the Cutty Sark for tourists and visitors to use.
