ABSTRACT
This document presents the “Dissemination and Communication
Strategy and Implementation Plan” of the FI-CONTENT 2 project,
based in particular on its “SEO and social media strategy and
implementation plan”. It describes the process, involving all FI-
CONTENT 2 partners, that has allowed, within the 3 first months of the
project (April-June 2013), to conceptualize, discuss, agree, develop and
finalize all dissemination and communication tools: web site and social
networks, brochure and trailer, posters and kakemono, goodies,
exhibition booth, project reference presentation, deliverable and
PowerPoint templates, etc. Illustrations of all dissemination and
communication tools produced at the end of the period are included into
the present document.
This document is a deliverable of the FI-CONTENT 2 Integrated Project supported by
the European Commission (DG Connect) under its FP7 research funding programme,
and contributing to the FI-PPP (Future Internet Public Private Partnership) initiative.

1 - OBJECTIVE OF THIS DOCUMENT
This document is a Deliverable of the FI-CONTENT 2 project, supported by the European Commission

It has been prepared in the framework of project work package n°8 (WP8: “Dissemination”) led by Sigma

the FI-CONTENT 2 project, based in particular on its “SEO and social media strategy and implementation
plan”.
It describes the process, involving all FI-CONTENT 2 partners, that has allowed, within the 3 first months of

2 - FROM CONCEPTS TO DISSEMINATION AND COMMUNICATION TOOLS
2.1 - Initial discussions and decisions at the kick-off meeting
Kick-off meeting of the FI-CONTENT 2 project – July 2013
The FI-CONTENT 2 project started its activities on April 1, 2013. A kick-off meeting involving all partners was
convened for mid-April by the project coordinator, Technicolor, in their Paris premises.
On this occasion, Sigma Orionis, leader of project WP8 (Dissemination) shared a presentation to remind all
partners what had been planned in the DoW regarding dissemination and communication activities, and to
facilitate the discussion on the tasks to be developed in the short term (precise definition of the tasks and
task repartition between partners).
This meeting was successful and led in particular to the decision that dissemination and communication
activities should be developed faster than planned in the DoW if possible, taking into consideration the
project final master schedule: the web site, social networks and all collaterals should be ready by the end of
month 3.
2.2 - Preparation and discussion of a draft DCSIP
Sigma Orionis then prepared and shared with all WP8 partners at the end of April a draft DCSIP
(Dissemination and Communication Strategy and Implementation Plan), reproduced in Annex A.
This document aimed at proposing all partners to agree on the reasons why FI-CONTENT 2 should develop
dissemination and communication activities and whom should the target audience be.
The following was proposed:
FI-CONTENT 2 partners have to widely disseminate their results because it is commendable
requirement for all FP7 projects,
They also have to strongly communicate on project objectives and developments:
o First and foremost to attract developers and companies (namely SMEs) to get involved in
the project open call (a key success factor for the project) and in future developments
(ensuring a strong use of developed platforms in FI-PPP phase 3),

o Also to contribute to the overall impact and success of the FI-PPP programme as a whole
and to increase the image and reputation of project partners.
The draft DCSIP also aimed at:
Deriving from the above what should the project image and key messages be (leading to a
storytelling version of the project presentation),
Proposing a project logo concept and URLs, a web site concept, and a strategy for the web site,
Setting a reference master schedule which WP8 could refer to.
A telco was organized beginning of May to discuss this draft DCSIP with all partners involved in WP8, which
allowed us to:
Discuss in detail and agree on all aspects of the document,
Prepare a first version of the project corporate presentation, required to introduce the project at the
FIA meeting of May 6-8, 2013 held in Dublin (cf. Annex B)
2.3 - Intense specification and development phase
From May 15 to June 15 2013, intense specification and development activities took place under the
responsibility of Sigma Orionis, in close interaction with WP8 partners and all partners whenever needed,
and under the supervision of the PMC (WP8 report during monthly PMC telcos).
In a first phase the “storytelling version” of the project presentation, the true skeleton of most dissemination
and communication tools was finalized, used in particular to develop a first version of the project trailer,
uploaded on YouTube and Dailymotion.
Storytelling version the FI-CONTENT 2 project
Then, 3 possible versions of a project logo was proposed to project partners, all of them based on a
crossroads symbol, to symbolize that the project drives innovation at the crossroads of content, media,
networks and creativity. A large majority voted for the one used in the present document. It was also decided
that no strapline, such as “Connected media”, would be used at the present stage of the project.

The various versions of the logo selected by project partners
Domain names were then secured:
A main one to be used for most dissemination and communication activities: mediafi.org (mediafi
for media future internet and .org because it is coherent with the fact that the project develops open
platforms), mediafi.com and mediafi.eu being also secured,
Another one to be used for those dissemination and communication activities targeting FI-PPP or
FP7 stakeholders: ficontent.eu (re-directing towards mediafi.org).
A WordPress template was then selected, and the development of the web site could start on the basis of
the overall specification included in the DCSIP, and in liaison with partners to whom inputs were requested
(short partners’ profiles, testimonials, description of the three platforms, etc.).
In parallel, a final SEO and social media strategy was prepared (internal document) and various
dissemination and communication tools were prepared or finalized:
A video trailer (available on the home page of the web site),
A new version of the project corporate presentation (uploaded on the web site),
A first version of the project brochure, 4 posters (each of them focusing on a key project message),
and a kakemono (all uploaded on the web site),
A first concept of a FIcontent exhibition booth,
A USB flash drive with the FIcontent and FI-PPP logos,
Project business cards,
PowerPoint and Deliverable templates.
All these tools are illustrated on next pages.
The website and related social networks were available online around June 15 and further refined until the
end of June. No promotion has started at the date when the present document was prepared (June 30)
because it was considered as essential that all partners can be:
Fully briefed on available tools and final dissemination and communication strategy at the FI-
CONTENT 2 plenary meeting of July 2-3, 2013,
Ready then to fully contribute to dissemination and communication activities, which are seen as a
key success factor of the implementation plan.

2.4 - Contribution to DWG activities
During this period, the WP8 leader has also actively participated through several telcos, a face to face
meeting and email exchanges to the activities of the Dissemination Working Group (DWG) set up at the FI-
PPP programme level and involving the Dissemination leaders of all FI-PPP projects.
This participation has been useful to fine tune the FI-CONTENT 2 DCSIP, and to better understand how to
develop synergies with the other projects, for the benefit of each project and of the FI-PPP programme as a
whole.

3 - CONCLUSION
Intense activities, involving all project partners, were developed during the first 3 months of the project, not
only to conceptualize, prepare and finalize all dissemination tools and materials planned to be available at
the end of month 3, but also those planned at a later date.
These efforts have led to quite a comprehensive and powerful set of “Initial dissemination material” able to
efficiently support the dissemination and communication activities of the project in the next months.
Obviously, the status reached in terms of dissemination material is not the end of a process: in the next
weeks and months, efforts will be maintained to reinforce and extend this set of tools and materials,
understand from all project partners what more can be done to support them, and to even more strongly
contribute to dissemination activities planned at the FI-PPP programme level.
