INGRESS PROTECTION (IP) RATING

There is a wide range of applications that require special treatment to the motor and thevarious degrees of protection that are available are detailed below:-

Designation

First Numeral Protectionagainst contact and ingressof foreign bodies

Second NumeralProtectionagainst water.

IP44

Protection against contact withlive or moving partsinside the enclosure by tools,wires, or such objects ofthickness greater than 1mm.Protection against ingress ofsmall solid foreign bodies(diameter greater than 1mm)excluding the ventilationopenings (intake and dischargeof external fans) and the drainhole of enclosed machine,which may have degree 2protection.

Water splashed against theenclosure from any directionshall have no harmful effect

IP54Water splashed against themachine from any directionshall have no harmful effect.

IP55Water projected by a nozzleagainst the enclosure from anydirection shall have no harmfuleffect.

IP56Water from heavy seas or waterprojected from jets shall notenter the machine in anyharmful quantity.

IP65Complete protection againstcontact with live or moving parts inside the enclosure andagainst the ingress of dust.

Water projected by a nozzleagainst the machine from anydirection shall have no harmfuleffect.

IP66Complete protection againstcontact with live or moving parts inside the enclosure andagainst the ingress of dust.

Complete protection againstcontact with live or moving partsinside the enclosure. Protectionagainst harmful deposits ofdust. The ingress of dust is nottotally prevented, but cannotenter in an amount sufficient tointerfere with satisfactoryoperation of the machine.
