Recently, energy efficiency has taken on along term and more urgent tone. We are alltoo well aware of the implications ofupsetting the natural balance of carbondioxide (C02) in the atmosphere, withpredicted (and some may say current) GlobalWarming being one of the consequences.

The aim of this course is to introduce a newconcept of energy efficiency within thebuilding environment and at the same time, link this efficiency to ~~iT",-/ 'I.human comfort and f

~/.Health and Safety (H.S.).

Legislatively, numerousActs andRegulations have beenintroduced toincrease energyefficiency and provide minimum standardsfor conservation of fuel and power. TheseActs and Building Regulations are aimed atdomestic and non-domestic buildings (bothnew and refurbished).

This course is designed to bridge the gapbetween the participants' current knowledge, understanding and level of skills on humancomfort and those required by Health andSafety legislations.

The module also incorporates knowledge ofdesign techniques and issues relating to theinternal 'indoor' environment.

Successful completion of the course shall allowparticipants to show knowledge andunderstanding of:

• The process of moderating the effects of currentand future, global and local environmentalconditions on tfJeoccupants of buildings.

• Optimum design techniques to ensure humancomfort within the indoor environment accordingto existing Health and Safety legislations.

• Energy conservation and cost savings within thebuilding environment
