READYMIX PAVING

With CEMEX Readymix you can be assured of

getting the best quality concrete solutions for

your paving. Readymix Paving is a strong and

durable concrete that’s perfect for use in outdoor

paved areas such as driveways, paths and

pavements.

Containing specially formulated admixtures it has

been designed to withstand freeze-thaw damage in

winter conditions. A high quality concrete, it can be

finished in a variety of ways to offer a textured or

smooth surface.

A carefully selected combination of fibre reinforcement, combined with an expert mix design – which provides a unique mesh-free concrete.

ROLLER COMPACTED CONCRETE AGGREGATES & ASPHALT

The economic recession in the UK over the past

four years has seen a drastic reduction in road

repairs and maintenance; this has resulted in a

serious deterioration in the condition of many roads

with routine repairs postponed indefinitely.

One of the major reasons has been the

unprecedented 25% rise in the price of bitumen

since January 2011. Bitumen constitutes 36% of

asphalt composition, resulting in a more expensive

road-building product.

CEMEX has developed highly effective alternative

solutions, substituting bituminous binders for

cementitious materials.

Our rigid Composite solution employs a thin

asphalt top layer, which retains the low noise

benefits of asphalt but at a far lower cost, since

the sub-layers are composed of highly supportive

cementitious materials.

By substituting expensive bituminous binder

courses and bases for CemPave RCC (Roller

Compacted Concrete) or CemPave CBGM

(Cement Bound Granular Materials) project times

are typically 40% faster. And because it’s more

durable, pavements can be thinner resulting in up

to 30% less material required.

The solution is highly cost effective for road

construction and offers professional road designers

and engineers more options and flexibility to

manage much tighter budgets. It is approved for

use by the Highways Agency and as it requires

less lorry journeys to deploy, it’s more sustainable.

For other applications, pure CemPave RCC and

CemPave CBGM solutions can be deployed

extremely effectively for requirements ranging

from runways, private roads, large hard-standing

areas such as ports and bus depots, and indeed

anywhere there is the need for heavy plant.

Roller Compacted Concrete is laid using

conventional asphalt paving equipment,

delivers the same performance in terms of

durability; strength and noise control but require

a far reduced bitumen component. That means

overall cost reduction and significantly reduced

material volumes.

restoration opportunities and maximising the use

of recycled materials.

Our extensive national aggregates network of

quarries, plants, depots and wharves combines

availability. We also have a marine division which

operates a fleet of dredgers supplying sand and

gravel to the construction industry and beach

replenishment projects.

CASE STUDY 2 BIRMINGHAM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

› Use of local resources

› Early pre-planning of works

As the specialist surfacing supplier, CEMEX completed resurfacing works to an existing paved area that is used to provide access to water storage tank access chambers.

CASE STUDY 1 HEATHROW TERMINAL 5

› Site limitations and public commitments

regarding the use of local roads meant access

to site was significantly restricted

› CEMEX developed the Iso-Tank Solution for the

site’s access issues

› Iso-Tanks shipped to the Colnbrook Logistics

Centre, then trans-shipped onto road and

delivered to the terminal

› This method minimised double handling

whilst allowing CEMEX to meet strict public

commitments over road usage.

A project where CEMEX overcame significant delivery challenges led the client to comment, “Terminal 5 quite simply would not have been achieved without CEMEX’s involvement”.

CASE STUDY 3 A1 DISHFORTH TO BARTON IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

local hauliers and a local independent

quarrying firm

› 270,000 wagon movements successfully

co-ordinated through three local villages to

deliver resources to the scheme

› Zero traffic related incidents occurred over the

› In addition to induction and training, the joint

venture developed and instilled a common

culture into over a hundred separate local

hauliers during the course of the scheme.

This £209m joint venture scheme involved upgrading 22km of existing two lane dual carriageway to a three lane motorway with hard shoulder also incorporating side road and junction improvements.

CASE STUDY 4 DUBAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT EXPANSION

› CEMEX was the sole supplier of all ready-mix

concrete and concrete pumping services to

the project

› From the total of 2.4 million m3 supplied the

monthly peak was 160,000m3 with a daily

supply consistently exceeding 5,000m3

› CEMEX installed in total 4 batching plants

on site to meet the high volumes required by

the project.

Construction of Terminal 3 at the largest airport in the world began in 2004 with an estimated cost of around US$ 4.5 billion, opening its doors for business in October 2008.
