In the modem society, the demands for high damping materials are increasing for a variety of purposes. e.g., to achieve calm society by decreasing noises arising from the environment, to achieve finer machinery in nano-technologies, to achieve high performance, safety structures by suppressing resonant vibration, etc. The purposes of the Symposium are to exchange information of the science and technology of the most advanced high-damping materials and to further develop new high damping materials for the future. The scope of the Symposium includes researches on the mechanism of damping of materials, development of high damping materials of various kinds and their applications to various fields. The following sessions are tentatively scheduled. The Seventh International Symposium on Crystallization in Glasses and Liquids will be held on July 6-9, 2003, at the University of Sheffield (UK). It is organized by the Society of Glass Technology and the Centre for Glass Research of the University of Sheffield.
