    INTRODUCTIONO Information Technology is one of the most important

    industries in the Indian economy.

    O India's IT industry grew from 150 million US Dollars in1990-1991 to a whopping 50 billion UD Dollars in 2010-

    LIBERALISATIONO The liberalization of the Indian economy in the early

    nineties has played a major role in the growth of the ITindustry of India.

    O Deregulation policies adopted by the Government ofIndia have led to substantial domestic investment andinflow of foreign capital to this industry.

    O In 1970, high import duties had forced IBM to leaveIndia.

    O However, after the early nineties, many multi national ITcompanies, including IBM, have set up their operationsin India.

    O During the ten year period 1992-2002, the Indiansoftware industry grew at double the rate as the USsoftware industry.
