Grievance redressal mechanism exists to handle student complaints/ grievances. Director – Student Affairs has been appointed to handle all issues related to student grievances and problems and take decisions to resolve them. Student Grievance committee has been formed to review and recommend action for all student complaints and grievances. Anti-ragging committee has been formed to take preventive action against ragging and to take action in case of any ragging reported. Every class has class representatives appointed along with faculty advisors. These student representatives are to report to faculty advisor in case of any problems. Dean of the concerned school holds periodic meetings with student representatives to discuss

issues/ problems. As on date there are no complaints received. These details are provided in Appendix-XII
Curriculum, Teaching Learning Process/Method, Examination/Evaluation System
5.1 Which University body finalized the curriculum? The composition of the body may be given. (Board of Studies, Academic Council, Board of Management)
The curriculum is developed by the respective School and is sent to the Dean of the School for review. The curriculum reviewed by the Dean and sent for final approval to the Academic Council which is the approving authority for all matters related to curricula.
5.2 What are the Rules/regulations/procedure for revision of the curriculum and when was the curriculum last updated?
The procedure for revision of curriculum is as notified in the statutes and rules, which is enclosed in Annexure C. The curricula for all courses are reviewed by the School compulsorily once a year to verify if any updation is to be done keeping in mind updates in technology, end-user requirements, etc. The Final decision on making revisions to curricula is taken by Board of Studies. The latest curricula of the various courses are enclosed in Annexure D.
5.3 Whether approval of statutory bodies such as Board of Studies, Academic Council and Board of Management of the University has been taken to start various courses? If yes, please enclose extract of the minutes.
Commencement of courses is decided by the Board of Studies.
5.4 Furnish details of the following aspects of curriculum design: Innovation such as modular curricula Inter/multi-disciplinary approach
For the B.Sc (Agriculture) course, the curriculum and detailed syllabi is based on the recommendations of the 4th Dean’s Committee of ICAR. This is

subject to notifications permitted under rules. For the Diploma in Engineering program and management programs – BBA/MBA, the respective schools ensure that multi-disciplinary approach is followed integrating management, languages and soft skills components with the core modules.
5.5 Has the University conducted an academic audit? If yes, please give details regarding frequency and its usage?
The University plans to conduct an academic audit once every year to formally assess the conduct of academics in all schools. This will be conducted to verify if all norms and guidelines and being complied and also to verify quality in academics operations. The results of the academic audit will be reviewed by the Board of Studies/Academic council to help identify weak areas and areas for further improvement.
5.6 Apart from classroom instruction, what are the
other avenues of learning provided for the students? (Example: Projects, Internships, Field trainings, Seminars, etc)
Apart from classroom instruction and practical sessions carried out in laboratory, field visits for students of agriculture are done as required. Further, in every semester, students are taken for field/industry visit to help them appreciate application of theoretical concepts. Mini-projects in the form of assignments are given to students in each semester. Seminars by external/guest faculty are conducted (atleast one per semester). Apart from this student seminars are held periodically as a part of classroom sessions.

Internship and Projects are compulsory for all courses. As a part of the academics activities for the B.Sc (Agriculture) program, RTU has entered into an agreement with the Agriculture Department, Govt of Karnataka, whereby students of the University will visit farmers and collect soil samples testing in order to prepare and issue soil health cards. RTU has also entered into an arrangement with Sericulture Department, Govt. of Karnataka, whereby land belonging to Sericulture dept. in Doddaballapur will be utilized by the University for farming and crop production training for students.
5.7 Please provide details of the examination system (Whether examination based or practical based)
The examination system for B.Sc (Agriculture) is as per ICAR guidelines and has 50% for external exams, 50% for internal evaluation which includes assignments, mid-term tests, practical exams and records and attendance. For Engineering and Management programs 30% weightage is for internal assessment and 70% for external written exams. All subjects that have practical sessions shall be treated as a separate paper and shall have practical internal and practical external exam. Internship and student projects also carry marks.
5.8 What methods of evaluation of answer scripts does the University follow? Whether external experts are invited for evaluation?
The University Exam Centre (UEC) is responsible for conduct of exams. The Board of Appointment of Examiners (BOAE) shall empanel a list of external

examiners for all subjects, based on the suggestions of the BoS of the respective school. These external examiners shall be responsible for setting of question papers and for evaluation of answer scripts, with approval of Board of Examiners. For SASF, answer scripts are sent to the external examiners for evaluations as approved by the BoE. For SEAS and SAMS, answer scripts may be also evaluated by internal faculties based on scheme of evaluation provided by external examiners
5.9 Mention the number of malpractice cases reported during the last 3 years and how they are dealt with.
There were a total of nine malpractice cases reported since the commencement of the University.
The malpractices by the examinees were officially recorded using the Unfair Means Record form designed specifically for this purpose.
Two cases were reported during the Final External (I & III Semester) Examination held during Dec -2014. The examinees, on perusal of the records and interrogation by the office of the Registrar Evaluation, proved guilty of the charges hence were debarred from writing the next one subject.
Two cases were reported during the Final External (I & III Semester) Examination held in the month of April- 2015. The examinees proved guilty and pleaded for mercy hence were let-off with stern warning to

restrain from repeating it in the future.
Two more cases were reported during Final External (II & IV Semester) Examination held in the month of Jun-2015. The examinees proved guilty of the charges and pleaded for excuse hence were given a verbal warning to restrain from repeating it and were allowed to sit in the exam.
Two other cases were reported from the Practical Examinations of Final External (II & IV Semester) Examination held in the month of April-2015. The examinees were proved guilty and pleaded for pardon hence were allowed to write the exam with a verbal warning to restrain repeating it in the future.
One case was reported during the Final external (III & V Semester) Examination held in the month of Dec-2015. The examinee proved guilty of the offence and tendered apology pleading for pardon hence he was given a written warning to restrain repeating this behaviour in the future and was allowed to continue writing the remaining exams.
Examination statute explains the procedure to be followed for dealing with malpractices. This is enclosed along with the statutes in Annexure C.
5.10 Does the University have a continuous internal evaluation system?
Yes, continuous internal evaluation is a part of all courses.

B.Sc (Agriculture) courses have mid-term exam (internal assessment) which has 20% weightage. Engineering and Management have three internal tests conducted, weightage for which is 30%
5.12 How are the question papers set to ensure the achievement of the course objectives?
The objective of the semester-end exam is to test the students understanding of the theoretical concepts and its application to solve problems/case studies. This is communicated to the external paper setters, who are asked to ensure papers are set as per the syllabus.
5.13 State the policy of the University for the constitution of board of question paper setters, board of examiners and invigilators
The Board of Appointment of Examiners (BOAE) shall appoint the examiners responsible for paper setting. Each examiner prepares two sets of papers along with key answers and scheme for valuation. The question paper setters are those who hold Masters degree in the subject with atleast 10 years of teaching experience or minimum 5 years of experience in external examinations. The examiners who set the external question paper shall also evaluate the answer scripts. Where required, additional examiners (appointed by BOAE) shall be used. This is monitored by the Board of Examiners. The Dean of the school shall appoint a co-ordinator/custodian to liaise with exam dept. and ensure smooth conduct of exams. The co-ordination/superintendent shall be from among the senior faculties.

The co-ordinator/custodian, in consultation with the dean shall appoint invigilators for the exam. The invigilators shall be from among the faculty members of the school.

7.9 Details of the Hostel fee including mess charges
Rs.40,000 is charged per student annually for availing hostel (including mess) facility, which is provided on dormitory basis. A security deposit of Rs.10,000 is collected from hostel students, which is refunded when they vacate.

APNADESH The University has entered into an MoU with a well-known NGO ApnaDesh which works in the agricultural sector. Keeping in mind, the large number of Agriculture students, this arrangement would expose the students to latest trends, information related to agriculture in the state. The MoU also enables our students to be able to interact with the farming community. A large number of agricultural videos focusing mainly on sustainable farming has been recorded by RTU for Apnadesh and these videos are made available to the general public for the benefit of farmers across the state. The programs are also telecast on Doordarshan national network.

MOOCs The University is working closely with the Karnataka Higher Education Council, Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of Karnataka for providing e-content. The University has donated a large number of e-courses designed by it inhouse to the Higher education department for use in the Govt portal. A platform called Karnataka MOOCs dedicated to offering Massive Open Online Courses has also been handed over to the state government to benefit student community in general. KSHEC – RECOGNITION OF VC The Karnataka State Higher Education Council, a regulatory body setup by the Dept. of Higher Education, Government of Karnataka has recognized the efforts of our Vice-Chancellor in the field of education and in establishing this University, by appointing her as one of ten academicians from the state as a member of the Council. She has also been appointed as member of the Executive Council of KSHEC. GNANASAMANVAYA As a part of the Gnanasamanvaya activity, the University has adopted rural colleges in the districts of Bangalore Rural and Bagalkot in Karnataka. The University is actively involved in training the staff and students of these universities and in providing various educational resources. SANSKRIT The University is committed to the promotion of Sanskrit language which is a link to our cultural heritage and our glorious past. In this context, the University has a collaboration with Samskrita Bharati, a cultural organization dedicated to the promotion of Sanskrit. As a part of the collaboration, a spoken Sanskrit course was conducted by Sri Srinivasan, senior faculty from the institute. The course was attended by faculty and staff of the organization, including the VC. The University has also decided to include Sanskrit in the course curriculum as a non-credit optional course for students. Students at the University have an option to choose Sanskrit as an additional course of study, with the focus being on conversational Sanskrit. Already classes for Sanskrit have

commenced for all the students who have expressed interest in learning the course. The University in the coming academic year proposes to start a new school of study focusing on Sanskrit and Vedic sciences. YOGA Health and physical fitness being a vital requirement in today’s stressful and competitive world, people across the world regard Yoga as a significant method to keep fit, relieve tensions and have peace of mind. Keeping this in mind, the University has included Yoga as a part of the curriculum, instead of merely focusing on it as an extra-curricular activity. Yoga has been included as a part of the curriculum as a non-credit course. Those students interested in learning Yoga are given classes on Yoga conducted by a qualified, trained and experienced instructor. NSS The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a part of the course curriculum for students of B.Sc (Agriculture). Under the auspices of NSS, students and staff visit nearby villages and conduct survey and also implement cleaning programs under Swach Bharat Abhiyan. Village adoption programs are also planned under NSS. INDIAN SCIENCE CONGRESS The University actively participated in the 103rd Indian Science Congress (ISC) held at Mysore and was part of the Karnataka Higher Education pavilion at the Pride of India Expo at the Congress. RTU was involved in videography of the event, including interviews with nobel laureates with a message to students and documentation of the same. The work done by the University at the ISC was appreciated by the Higher Education Department, Govt of Karnataka (Annexure R).
