Summery of wireless network connection- 1. Access Point and User Authorization -

1. “MIAKO” network– It’s the public wireless network of Kyoto University. By using

this network, the user has to get the following ID.• Staff ID (SCS-ID), Student and Scholar ID (ECS-ID), Visitor’s ID

(Visitor ID)

– The PPTP connection setting is required because for user authorization.

2. “eduroam” network– It requires the following ID. - http://eduroam.jp

- http://eduroam.org– In case of Kyoto University, the eduroam ID can get by using

the staff ID (SPS-ID).• * Please do not let other persons use it.

Summery of wireless network connection- 2. Feature of Access Point and ID Expire Date -

1. “MIAKO” network– The network is in the Kyoto University.– Necessity of the web proxy setting of Kyoto University.– Necessity Compliance of Information Security Policy of Kyoto University.

http://www.iimc.kyoto-u.ac.jp/ja/services/ismo/regulation/index.html– Necessity of setting up PPTP (VPN) to the PC– ID Expire Date

• SPS-ID: Unlimited• ECS-ID ： 1 Year• Visitor ID ： 1 – 7 days (By special application, maximum 2 months)

2. “eduroam” network– The network is the external of Kyoto University.– In case of Kyoto University, this ID can use only staffs (SPS-ID).– ID Expire Date

• Maximum 1 Year

1. Staff ID （ SPS-ID ） , Scholar ID （ ECS-ID ）1. VPN Host: pptp0.kuins.kyoto-u.ac.jp2. Web Proxy (2 Selections)

1. Automatic Configuration Proxy http://wpad.kuins.net/proxy.pac

2. Manually Coonfiguration– Host ： proxy.kuins.net– Port: 8080

Summery of wireless network connection- 4. Troubleshooting of PPTP connection -

1. Not Response “Connecting….”.1. Check of “TCP/IP” setting.

　 IP Address: Dynamic, DNS setting: Dynamic

2. Check of the personal firewall function of security software. When security software turn off, the personal firewall function blocked VPN connection if the trouble does not appear. Now, Windows Live One and AVG products block VPN connection. Please see the user’s manual. If you have high-level network technical skill, the PC can use VPN connection by allowing PPTP /VPN connection and GRE protocol.

When security software turn off, the personal firewall function blocked VPN connection if the trouble does not appear. Now, Windows Live One and AVG products block VPN connection.
