As I’m sure you are all aware I am retiring in September. Ms Williams will become the new Headteacher, joining Ilkley Grammar School in September from Minsthorpe Academy, Wakefield.

Congratulations to Mr Daly, one of your Deputy Headteachers, who has taken on the role of Interim Headteacher at Pudsey Crawshaw School from June 1st and is spending 3 days a week there; from September to December this will increase to 4 days a week.

Our congratulations also go to Mr Milburn, (Key Stage 3 Leader) who has been promoted to the post of Assistant Headteacher at Harrogate Grammar School.

Next week is Challenge and Celebration Week: enjoy your Big Trip and Lightwater Valley, London, the Lakes, Aerial Xtreme, Walking the Wharfe, Blackpool Pleasure Beach or other in-school activities. This is a first for us as well as yourselves and we know it will be an amazing opportunity to engage with another side of school life for a week rather than just a day. Good luck!

Congratulations to our Year 8 cricket team who are looking forward to taking part in the Yorkshire Post Competition final at Headingley for a third year running. They played valiantly in the semi-final on Thursday 3rd July against Morley Academy. Despite being 30 for 5 after 10 overs the Year 8 team managed to dig deep and beat their opposition in the semi-final of the Yorkshire Post Competition. Ilkley batted first and managed to score 109 after 20 overs. Captain Oliver Burton was the pick of the batsman with 50 from 50 balls. The team bowled and fielded superbly and restricted Morley to 97 for 8 after 20 overs. This is a fantastic achievement for the team!

Well done to our Year 7,8 and 10 rounders team who were all presented with their medals and trophies from the Bradford School League finals. All three winning teams...great effort girls!

Congratulations to Harry Hunt (9AHF) who came a very creditable fourth in the BSCA (British Schools’ Cycling Associate) Grass Track Championship at Roundhay Park in Leeds last Saturday.

The event took the form of an omnium with three races counting to the overall positions. The three races were a one lap sprint with heats and a final, a pursuit and then a scratch race.

Well done to ‘Les Roulers Fous’: Catherine Boyle (10ACD), Laura King (10FV), Milly Horn (10AJH), Sarah Yorke (10ALS), Ethan Thompson (10VEB) and Nathan Spiller (10VEB) who won the TDF Language Competition. York University organised the Tour de France quiz which included a batch of questions/activities released once a week for 8 weeks. The quiz began on Tuesday the 22nd of April ended on Friday the 20th of June. There were 8 weekly rounds, focusing on the Yorkshire, Lille, Nancy, Mulhouse, Grenoble, Pau/Lourdes, Nimes/Carcassonne and Paris/Ile de France étapes respectively. Teams from all over the country were invited to compete. 17 schools started the TDF journey, 14 teams finished after covering 3,664km. The team answered 59 questions, posted 32 comments, completed 7 creative tasks and viewed 4,809 web pages...phew! They all attended a prize giving ceremony at York University on July 3rd where they were awarded the overall team prize and Laura King won the individual poster prize.
