ISSUE 62-4 July, 2016 PARMA B.P.O.E. #1938
First, I would like to thank everyone who came out for the N.E. District golf outing and meetings. Kudos to Karen Kupchik, Tammy Schervish, Past D.A.C. Dianne Good and the committee who put on a great weekend of events. On Friday, we welcomed members from other lodges, in-cluding our Ohio Elks Associa-tion State Officers, who came to our Lodge and enjoyed our Parma hospitality. We had a great time at the golf outing Sat-urday , with and dinner and dancing afterwards at our lodge. Sunday, the Dochertys cooked a delicious breakfast and lunch. Thank you Doc and Lisa. Everyone that came out on June 11th to the Night at the races had a blast. Thanks to Trish for putting 50 baskets to-gether for the raffles as well as to the Committee for their dedica-tion to making this event a suc-cess. Flag Day was June 14th and we had our special Elk cere-mony to honor our flag. We ap-preciate our Boy Scout Troop #24 that did the flag retirement and the members, guests, and Officers that came out for this special day.
June 25th was our Lodge golf outing. Kathee Mat-tern and her crew did a terrific job – thanks to all who helped or participated. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day! Volunteers - where would we be if we didn’t have them? As we look around our Lodge, inside and out, we see the beautiful flowers, a new guard rail, the grass cut, kitchen scrubbed, organized and cleaned. Storage rooms and office organized. Please, if you see something that needs done, lend a hand. Parma Elks is our members’ lodge. Let’s keep it clean and litter free. Also, if you smoke outside, please dispose of the butts ac-cordingly. Speaking of volunteers, there are some great events coming up this month. Our En-tertainment Committee is trying to find something for everyone. Your attendance helps the Lodge to continue the good works of Elkdom. Please bring family and friends and support these efforts. Even if you think it might not be up your alley, why not give it a try and see! You just might be surprised! We have been talking about getting a patio door at our Lodge for a long time. Our back property is scenic and relaxing. Let’s make this a reality. We will gladly take any donations and
will ear-mark them just for the patio project. Thank you for being a part of Elk-dom! PER Craig Fugitt, ER 2016-2017
We will be holding nomina-tions and voting for a 4-Year Trustee Position on July 28th, at our business meeting, at 8:00 PM. Computer and book-keeping skills would be a plus!

Thanks to the generos-
ity of our members, and espe-
cially the family of Marge
Spisak, our Lodge was able to
exceed our ENF per capita for
2015-2016 and raised $6.13
per member, putting us at
22nd in the State and 7th in
the Northeast District. Dona-
tions can be made through
the Elks.org website or by con-
tacting Dianne Good at 440-
915-8401. You are investing in
our youth and supporting our
Veteran’s – and it would be
hard to find two more worthy
causes!
As a result of our mak-
ing our per capita, we have
applied for our Gratitude
Grant and will be working with
the Parma Hunger Center
and the Parma Area Family
Collaborative.
Parma Lodge has do-
nated our leftover canned
goods at Christmas for many
years to the PHC, and they
would appreciate our using
part of the grant to help them
with meat to be distributed
from their food pantry. They
are also in need of canned
goods during the summer.
The PAFC is located
on Snow Rd. W. of Chevy in
the old Hanna Elementary
School. They provide social
services and resource referrals
to families in crisis. They also
work with a mobile food pan-
try, a clothing center, and
service 150-200 families, pri-
marily in the Parma, Parma
Hts., Brook Park area.
However, their most
important service is providing
breakfast, lunch, and super-
vised activities for economi-
cally disadvantaged school
children during the summer
months. Our Lodge would be
contributing $1000 of our
grant toward this most worth-
while summer program.
They would also ap-
preciate donations of hygiene
GOOD NEWS FROM THE

TION!!!
CONT. FROM ELKS NATIONAL
FOUNDATION:
If you would be willing to
volunteer, even for a day, to serve
meals and/or participate in the
youth activities between June 13th
and August 19th, Monday thru Fri-
day, please contact Dianne for
further information. They can al-
ways use the help!
There will be a box in the
lobby during the week of July 16-
23. If you can, please drop off a
canned good or two for the PHC,
or some shampoo, conditioner,
soap, deodorant, toothpaste or
toothbrushes for the PAFC, and
make the lives of those who use
these wonderful organizations just
a little bit better!
Elks Care, Elks Share!
Thank you in advance for your
support of this project!

Variously known as the Fourth of July and
Independence Day, July 4th has been a
federal holiday in the United States since
1941, but the tradition of Independence
Day celebrations goes back to the 18th
century and the American Revolution
(1775-83). In June 1776, representatives
of the 13 colonies, then fighting in the
revolutionary struggle, weighed a resolu-
tion that would declare their independence
from Great Britain. On July 2nd, the Conti-
nental Congress voted in favor of inde-
pendence, and two days later its delegates
adopted the Declaration of Independence,
a historic document drafted by Thomas
Jefferson. From 1776 until the present
day, July 4th has been celebrated as the
birth of American independence, with typi-
cal festivities ranging from fireworks, pa-
rades and concerts to more casual family
gatherings and barbecues.
Happy 4th of July!

Please remember that there will be no bingo in July or August. We will resume in September. Speaking of bingo, we have noticed quite an increase in attendance as word of our monthly bingos continues to spread. We are in need of more volunteers to assist with the bingos! The more volunteers, the better! You don’t need to sign up—just show up! Again, our Annual Veteran’s BBQ will be held on August 6th from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. at Broadview Multi-Care. We are in need of bakers to bake for the day of the event, as well as volunteers and monetary donations. The do-nations will help offset the cost of the burgers and raffles. Any donation is much appreciated and, of course, we’d love to see you the day of the BBQ. And if you are a Vet, we’d like you to attend the BBQ as our guest—this BBQ is to show our appreciation to our Vets and that includes our own Vets as well!! Our next meeting to finalize some of the BBQ details will be held on Tuesday July 12th at 6:30 in the Lounge. We have been discussing applying for a Freedom Grant and will be doing so in July. We have chosen to apply for a grant to take a group of Veterans to the Cleveland MetroParks Zoo. The trip would include lunch for the attendees and perhaps some other type of “treat,” depending on the amount of participants. Anyone interested in helping with the grant, please see either Fran Trozzi or Betty Fortune. As always, thanks for all you do for our Veterans.

Cerebral Palsy Support
The Ohio Elks Association provides financial aid to established Cerebral Palsy Treatment Centers. Every year Ohio Elks lodges around the state raise tens of thousands of dollars to aid CP Treatment Centers who help patients and their families manage Cerebral Palsy. The Ohio Elks Cerebral Palsy Fund Board was created to maintain, administer, contrib-ute and donate funds or property to any Ohio Chapter or branch of any nationally recog-nized or local organization in Ohio which maintains, as a function, the care, treatment, training and rehabilitation of individuals with Cerebral Palsy.
Spotlight on Ohio Elks Support: Hattie Larlham Source:http://news.hattielarlham.org/ohio-elks-support-hattie-larlham-for-46-years/
Hattie Larlham recently recognized the Ohio Elks Association for their 46th years of support. The Ohio Elks have raised more than $304,000 for people with developmental disabilities at Hattie Larlham. The Ohio Elks Associa-tion hosts third party special events which help to fund physical therapy equipment at the Hattie Larlham Center for Children with Disabilities in Mantua, Ohio. The Ohio Elks Association is an organization of 79 lodges and is part of the national Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE). Each state association undertakes a project that addresses an unmet community need. The Ohio Elks Association raises funds for organizations that serve people with cerebral palsy. The Ravenna, Ohio, Lodge #1076 is the sponsoring lodge that submits grant requests to fund Hattie Larlham.

Did you know…
In 1928, one man's dream became a reality for all Elks and the communities we
serve. Then-National President John F. Malley envisioned a plan that would “unite
the forces of the Order into a mighty army for the service of mankind.” During the annual Grand Lodge
Convention in Miami that year, Malley's call to service inspired delegates to take action by voting to es-
tablish the Elks National Foundation (ENF) with an initial $100,000 grant.
More than 85 years after Malley shared his vision with the Order, the ENF continues to unite all Elks in service to their communities. Stay tuned for the continuation of the story and history of ENF and how our local lodge helps!
