IT’S NOT EASY BEING FLAT.

The appeal of flat-paneltransducers has never beenmore obvious, and the basictechnology behind them isstraightforward enough. Butvintage EMI flat panels hadperformance limitations inthe low frequencies andsuffered from voice coilsthat were prone to thermalcompression, making theminappropriate for use inhigh-performance speakers.In developing the InfinityCascade MRS transducers,Infinity engineers incorporatednew materials and technologiesthat have overcome thedrawbacks and deliver significant performancebenefits.

Infinity engineers were able to strike the perfect balancebetween electro-acousticefficiency and reliability withpatented CMMD® diaphragms.

Another flat-panel challengewas to find a way to uniformlydrive as much of thediaphragm’s radiating surfaceas possible. A traditional conecan easily be driven by a smallvoice coil at its apex, but flatpanels require a completelydifferent approach. Infinityengineers developed dualelliptical voice coils for theInfinity Cascade MRS drivers.With more than six times thevoice-coil contact of a typicalcone transducer, they movethe diaphragm much like anideal flat piston, for crystal-clear, resonance-free opera-tion throughout the driver’sentire dynamic range.

1979 – The ultimate dream

comes true. Even today, the

Infinity Reference Standard

speaker remains state of the

art. In its time, it was by far the

most elaborate and expensive

loudspeaker system in the world,

It was intended only to be the

Infinity in-house design refer-

ence, but audio enthusiasts

created a demand for produc-

tion of this ultimate listening

experience. With 2,000 watts of

amplification per channel, the six

304mm polypropylene/graphite-

fiber bass drivers offered

definitive bass authority. In

addition, no fewer than 36 EMIT®

drivers and 12 EMIM™ drivers

1982 – The Infinity Reference

Standard RSIB 1984 casts its

spell on music lovers and audio

enthusiasts alike. Like its larger

predecessor, it reproduced even

the most complex musical

passages with a level of realism

that made it difficult to distinguish

it from the live source. Actually, it

is misleading to describe the

sonic capabilities of the original

IRS and the Infinity Reference

Standard RSIB 1984 in the past

In loudspeakers, tran sducersare the engines of sound –and diaphragms are theirpistons. An ideal diaphragmmaterial would be stiffenough to provide perfectlyuniform contact with roomair, lightweight enough toreact quickly to musicalimpulses, and acousticallyneutral to eliminate reso-nance. With Ceramic MetalMatrix Diaphragms, Infinity®

After inventing servo-controlled subwoofer systems,Infinity® engineers adapted the technology developedfor the finest home audio loudspeakers to create the BassLink® system, which set a new standard forin-vehicle bass reproduction. It features Bass EQ, a0° or 180° phase switch – optimizing the phase tospecific vehicle locations – and other innovations.

• The Infinity BassLink T™ subwoofer system hasbeen developed to deliver great bass in pickuptrucks, SUVs and hatchbacks. Its low-profile designallows it to be positioned in the confined space of a pickup truck, or behind the rear seats of ahatchback or SUV. Small in size but big in output,the BassLink T system produces enough bass towake up the neighborhood.

• A 250mm subwoofer, two 250mm passive radia-tors and a 250-watt Class D amplifier are housedin a great-looking rigid polymer enclosure, allcarefully engineered to work together as a unique,integrated system. The extremely versatileBassLink T system accepts both speaker- and line-level inputs, and it provides an internal low-passfilter, proprietary signal processing and abundantamplification.
