Carotenoids are present in human milk. Beyond their role as pro-vitamin A and protec-tors of the retina, carotenoids have many oth-er biological functions. Lutein and Zeaxanthin are the only carotenoids protecting the retina from oxidative damage and are important for the maintenance of ophthalmic health.
