What are Industry Collaboration Events?

Industry Collaboration Events (ICE) are

interoperability testing programs developed by

NENA so NG9-1-1 vendors can test their equipment

with each other in an open and collaborative

environment

Every vendor agrees to keep the testing results private

It is not a certification program

NG9-1-1 ICE Steering Committee Responsible for planning and executing the events

Sets the direction and expectations for an event

What will be tested and how

What information from the event will be released

Scheduling the event

Select Chair and Vice-chair for Planning Committee

Composed from representatives from major stakeholder groups

Forms committees to plan individual ICE events

ICE Data Gathering and Reporting Committee

Provides an event’s final report:

Lists tests as completed or incomplete

Cannot be used for marketing or advertising

Answers the following questions regarding standards:

Which standards are clear and complete?

Which standards are too loose?

Which standards are too restrictive?

Which standards are missing?

Gathers feedback from participants

ICE Planning Committees

Formed at least 6 months in advance of an

event

Made up of participating vendors

Determines what will be tested and how

Creates bi-lateral and complex test scenarios

Chair and Vice-Chair within Planning

Committee

ICE 1: Test Location, Routing and Delivery of NG9-1-1 Calls

Held at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX from Nov

2 to 5 2009

20 NG9-1-1 components tested by 26 engineers from 16

companies

Plan was to test the end to end delivery of NG9-1-1 calls with

location

81 bilateral tests (67% completed)

9 end-to-end tests (22% completed)

21 detailed comments provided to NENA Technical leadership

for review

100% of participants found event useful and would participate

again

ICE 8: Interoperability with Recording & Logging Components

Held at IIT in Wheaton IL the week of November 4, 2013

20 vendors participated

Focused on testing interfaces for logging of processing

events and recording NG9-1-1 multimedia and call data,

as well as interfaces for retrieving and reproducing both.

Allowed vendors of all NG9-1-1 call processing elements

to test logging, recording and retrieval interfaces while

processing calls from origination to termination with

different media types.
