Students- Should consider this course if they are interested in gaining an
apprenticeship and pursuing a career in the wood trades –(e.g. Carpentry, Fitting, Joiner or Machining).
- Who have completed Industrial Technology Wood or Graphics in year 9 and 10 will find this course easier than those without any wood workshop experience
- undertake work in four sections:• Industry study• Design and management • Occupational Health and Safety• Industry-specific content and production.
students learn to:
• source, select and sequence information about issues in a selected industry, developing competence in collecting, analysing, and organising information
• debate, describe, discuss and explain issues in written, graphic and oral form, developing competence in communicating ideas and information
• develop competence in sketching, drawing and using computer aided drawing software
• plan, prepare and present project work and planning folio to develop competence in planning and organising activities
• cooperate with individuals and groups, developing competence in working with others and teams
• design, implement and evaluate solutions to practical situations in wood industries, developing competence in solving problems
• plan, develop and modify projects including costing, quantities, measurement and time, developing competence in using mathematical ideas and techniques
• experiment with and prepare practical projects using appropriate materials and equipment, developing competence and practical skills in using technology
• demonstrate proficiency in the use of safe working practices and workshop equipment maintenance techniques
Projects constructed in the workshop in year 11 include –
• Joint Exercise
• Nail and Screws Box
• Small Cabinet
