I. Profile of the Company

Lexus is the luxury vehicle division of Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation.Lexus was launched in 1989 to stir the souls of drivers with the desire to deliver the world's most

intelligent, advanced and enjoyable automobiles along with an unsurpassed ownership experience.

Since the very beginning, Lexus has embodied a new kind of luxury that overturns

conventional thinking in both luxury and performance.

The first Lexus culminated half a decade of intense research and development. Like eachand every Lexus they make, it was the result of a steadfast refusal to compromise. They call this

the pursuit of perfection.

The Pursuit of Perfection

Lexus' tireless environmental efforts have grown out of a genuine respect and concern for the environment. The concerns range from the gathering and transporting of raw materials to the

processing and assembly of vehicle parts, and from the processes at our dealer locations to the

handling of materials at the end of a vehicle's life.

Lexus is now sold globally and has become Japan's largest-selling make of premium cars.

The Lexus marquee is marketed in over 70 countries and territories worldwide, and has ranked

among the ten largest Japanese global brands in market value. Lexus is headquartered in Nagoya,

Japan. Operational centers are located in Brussels, Belgium, and Torrance, California, United

States.

Manufacturing and Distribution

Lexus has also made great strides in the development of materials: seat cushions made withfoam derived from castor seeds. Speakers manufactured with sustainable bamboo. Carpeting

composed of 30% plant-based sources. These are just a few of the innovative processes used in the

creation of recent Lexus vehicles. Lexus also offers an innovative seating material called NuLuxe. It weighs half as much as leather, and its manufacturing process generates 65% fewer CO2

emissions than other synthetic leathers and no VOCs.

Additionally, every Lexus manufacturing site has achieved Zero Landfill Status, meaning

that any waste resulting from manufacture is recycled, repurposed or used to generate additional

energy. In-plant water use and scrap material generation have also been cut dramatically at Lexus plants, and improvements in plant energy efficiency help to reduce the greenhouse gases that are a

 by-product of power generation.

All eight plants that build Lexus vehicles are ISO 14001-certified, having received

certification to an international standard for environmental management system. Lexus dealers are

a part of this effort. The Lexus Environmental Assistance Network equips all dealers with acustomized web site that provides up-to-date waste-management information. Dealers return

numerous components for precision factory remanufacture and ultimate sale as rebuilt parts.

VI. Fire fighting Safety Policies and Regulations

As the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-New Construction (LEED-

NC)-certified Lexus new car dealership in the United States, the new facility at 13700 Manchester Road in Manchester, Mo. is the first Lexus new car dealership facility planned and built from the

ground up to adhere to stringent LEED-NC guidelines in design, construction and operation.

“We’re committed to environmental responsibility and we intend to demonstrate the depth

of that commitment by our actions with the construction and operation of this new Lexusdealership facility,” said Ray Mungenast, president of Dave Mungenast Lexus of St. Louis.

“Holland has a great team of knowledgeable, accredited LEED professionals who have been very

helpful.”

The spacious 70,000-square-foot, two-story building is nearly twice the size of the

dealership’s prior location. The facility features a large showroom and service lounge with upscale

customer amenities, café and delivery area. The building also houses a state-of-the-art 32-bay

service area with a complimentary car wash and detail area.

Designed With Concern

The focus of Lexus design efficiency is to build a vehicle that is exceptionally lean in its

use of raw materials, its fuel and its impact on the environment—all the while pushing the

boundaries of performance, luxury and quality.

The design of lighter-weight vehicles helps conserve natural resources; reduce fuelconsumption, emissions and brake wear; and improve handling and braking performance, and

results in less scrap for recycling and disposal. Lexus works to reduce weight without weakening

the vehicle or sacrificing luxury or safety features through sophisticated computer modeling that

allows excess material to be engineered out. Extensive testing validates the strength and durabilityof each component before it goes into production.

Lexus pushes the frontiers of vehicle aerodynamic efficiency using wind-tunnel-tuned,

computer-modelled details to reduce aerodynamic drag. Engine and driveline sounds are analyzedand tuned extensively, and airflow is investigated in the wind tunnel and on the road.

Lexus innovations ensure that our vehicles deliver maximum power from the minimumamount of fuel, with remarkably low exhaust emissions. As a result of sophisticated engine-

Page 9: Industrial Safety and Maintenance

management controls, the RX and CT Hybrid models are among the most fuel efficient on the road

and every 2012 Lexus model (LFA excluded) has met Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV II) or

the more stringent Super Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV II) EPA certification standards.

Newest Facility

Cambridge, Ontario, is home to the first Lexus manufacturing plant in North America. It

produces the RX luxury sport-utility vehicle, the best selling SUV Lexus ever built.

The Cambridge facility is unique in its resemblance to a Lexus dealership, rather than to atypical automotive plant. The first RX produced in this facility is on display in the showroom,

surrounded by polished wood floors and ceiling-high glass–an impressive setting that reminds all

employees to take pride in their craftsmanship.

No matter where a Lexus is built, one thing remains constant: The idea that every step of the production process should reflect the Pursuit of Perfection. As of today, this Cambridge facility

has earned ten J.D. Power and Associates plant-quality awards, including six gold awards.

VI. Finding and Conclusion of the Survey

I found out that they are working to develop human resources by implementing an

educational program based on OJT (on – the – job – training), which is crucial for the development

and generational transfer of excellent Monozukuri (manufacturing), with the five Toyota Waykeywords as a fundamental basis.

The Toyota way, which explains values and ways of thinking, can be understood and

practiced by employees globally; Lexus have organized and arranged job types and techniques into

what we call "Global Contents." These Global Contents are communicated to employees throughcourses and OJT both in Japan and overseas.
