COX™ HIGH-ACCURACY PRECISION AND INDUSTRIAL FLOWMETERS
COX flow Measurement has been the iconof turbine flowmeters since its inception. The installation base is a testimony tocustomers who have discovered theperformance and longevity of COX turbinemeters and associated electronics.
DESCRIPTIONCOX’s superior performance is credited to the axial helical rotor design, whichenhances linearity, repeatability andspeed-of-response and reduces pressuredrop. A single-bearing design minimizesfriction and delivers linearity beyond that of the standard 10:1 range. This bearingsystem also extends the repeatable rangeto 60:1 on small meters and up to 150:1on large meters.
in addition, COX flow Measurement offersthe EC80 flow computer, which willlinearize the meter within ±0.1% linearityover the entire repeatable range. This flowcomputer offers temperature and pressurecompensation with multiple outputs forfrequency and analog in engineering units.
COX precision flowmeters utilize animproved, extended 6-vane support toreduce fluid swirl from entering the rotor.Ceramic ball bearings are standard forimproved durability. The 316 ss housingexceeds the pressure ratings of the An(Ms) fittings. Hex or square housings makeit easy for tightening the threaded fittingsduring installation and removal.

• Low-friction ceramic ball bearings• suitable for water, hydrocarbons and cryogenic service• 17-4 helical rotor• Compact size (2.22" face dimension)
Bearings are the key factor in performance whenmeasuring low flow. That is why COX FlowMeasurement uses ceramic ball bearings, whichare near perfect in roundness within 10 millionthsof an inch variation. This means lower friction andless vibration, which equals superior repeatability.
The COX Loflo™ series is a robust axial turbine flowmeter withexceptional repeatability of ±0.25% of reading. When paired with theEC80 flow Computer, the calibration data is linearized to within ±0.1%of reading, allowing for precision flow measurement over the entireusable range of the meter. COX Loflo series flowmeters are notposition-sensitive and can be mounted in any piping orientation.
The custom long-life, ceramic low-friction ball bearing system used inthe COX Loflo series meets the demands of water, hydrocarbons andcryogenic fluids. Capable of measuring flows as low as 0.006 GPM(0.024 LPM), this meter is an ideal solution for a multitude ofapplications. Typical uses include fuel injection productionsystems, blending of costly chemical additives, onboard fuelconsumption, refrigerants, dye injections, and more.
Ceramic ball bearings have much less fiction than journalbearings and provide a wider measureable flow range with superiorrepeatability. The COX Loflo series is designed to be rugged andrepeatable with the assurance of the most accurate calibrationprovided on our positive displacement primary standard calibrators.

COX Flow Measurement offers the pinnacle ofturbine flowmeter performance. The Dual Rotoris NIST’s golden meter for “round robin”testing. Its use around the world for primarystandard calibrator correlation tests is proof ofperformance.
COX flow Measurement offers proven flowmetering solutions for the most demandingaerospace, automotive, industrial and OEMapplications. The Exact™ series dual RotorTurbine flowmeter is the world’s most precisemeter of its kind, providing extended rangeperformance not obtainable with traditionalsingle rotor designs.
DESCRIPTIONThe Exact series dual Rotor Turbine flowmeterprovides an extended flow range capability, which often eliminates the need for manifoldsystems and thus simplifies installation andlowers costs. The meter’s exceptionalperformance, enabled by the innovative dualrotor configuration, enhances UvC curves andextends the usable measurement flow range.
With the Exact series dual Rotor Turbineflowmeter (standard Model CdX/CdL), flowstraighteners are not required to control process fluid swirl, as the dual rotor systemcancels out the rotor acceleration effect. Withflow straighteners, bearing diagnostics can bedetermined by monitoring the ratio of the rotorsto detect wear or cleanliness. The Exact seriesmeters also utilize a unique pickoff system, which is impervious to vibration and minimizesspace. This allows for direct coupling ofelectronics on a robust mount having a lowerprofile. Both integral and remote electronics are available to process the signal output.
Exact series dual Rotor technology is ideal for a wide range of applications. The meter isdesigned for bi-directional flow and high-shockenvironments. it utilizes a robust bearingsystem having dual ceramic bearings on eachrotor with the internals securely locked in place, resulting in excellent repeatability. The dualrotor meter allows for installation in applicationsthat do not have space for flow straightenerswithout loss of measurement accuracy.Pressures of up to 30,000 psig can becontained, while compensating for viscositychanges using integrated pressure sensors.

Bearings are the most critical component of a turbine flowmeter in terms of both repeatability of the meteroutput and the security of the calibration over time. This is why all COX flow Measurement turbine meters useceramic ball bearings. There are several advantages in using ceramic material:
• Ceramic can be used in non-lubricating fluids• Ceramic is non-corrosive and heat-tolerant, making it ideal for water or hydrocarbons• Ceramic offers near perfect roundness, minimizing vibration• Ceramic is harder and measures RC 75-80 as compared to ssT at RC58-65• Ceramic is 50% lighter than ssT, extending the life of the bearing
All the above attributes reduce heat, providing five times more wear resistance. Ultimately, this preserves thecalibration of the meter, while being more tolerant to particulates.

1. Unconditioned flow enters flowmeter.
2. straightening vanes smooth the flow as itenters the first rotor.
3. flow transfers momentum to the first rotor, making it spin counterclockwise. flow thenexits rotor, with a clockwise spin.
4. flow enters second rotor with a nearlyperpendicular angle of attack, therebytransferring additional momentum to thesecond rotor. This additional momentumresults in greatly extended turndown.
5. flow exits flowmeter.
6. dual pickoffs transmit the rotor frequencysignal to remote instrumentation.

Calibrations are performed at COX Flow Measurement, a NVLAP (Lab Code 200668) accredited facility using Primary Standard Calibrators producing ≤±0.05% of reading uncertainty.
Customers can select from a variety of calibrations to enhance the accuracyof the flow measurement reading. Often, manufacturers perform watercalibrations and then use a correction factor. This can be misleading, as thecalibration curve will vary in more viscous fluids. COX flow Measurementavoids calibration shifts by using the actual fluid viscosity in the calibrator todevelop the calibration curves. Multiple calibrations can be provided to forma single Universal viscosity Curve, which adjusts the frequency/viscosityrelationship to match the actual temperature of the known fluid.
Liquid flow Measurement: Primary Liquid Calibrators:

COX Turbine flowmeters can be installed in any position, withoutaffecting performance. To reduce flow turbulence, COX recommendsusing flow straighteners, which have 10 diameters in length upstream and 5 diameters in length downstream, with vanes.
Where impractical due to space limitations, careful attention tothe location of valves, bends, etc., is suggested. A 10-micron
filter on the small meters is recommended to prevent bearingcontamination.
Electrical installation requires a 3-conductor shielded cable tothe readout device.

Semi-automatic calibrators are available for OEMs with high-volume calibration requirements. These systems incorporate flowmeter quick-load fixturing.
COX Flow Measurement “CheckStandards” are used by NIST intheir intra-laboratory test todetermine bias betweenprimary standard calibrationlabs for the armed forces andmajor labs.
Check standards are used to verify the repeatability of a primary standard calibrator. They ensure that nothing has changed in the ability of the calibrator to repeat its former calibration data. Calibration data curves should lay over eachother within <0.1% over the entire range of the Check standard (30:1 turndown).Check standard sets are offered with every PdCL series calibrator.
