«Break siege» Campaign right no 1:the right to life

Opening the crossings is more important than disarming the chemical weapons.

A call for opening the secure crossings in Syria to deliver food and medicine to the besieged cities in Damascus and its suburbs, as well as in Homs.

More than one million people are still living under the imposed siege on the southern part of Damascus, eastern and western Ghouta and the City of Homs. As the Security Council issued a resolution to disarm Al Assad’s chemical weapons, the regime’s violations against Syrians continued. By doing so, the world is conveying a negative message that they only take action when people are killed by chemical weapons and keep silent when other means are used to kill people. According to Syrians, by confiscating the murderer’s weapon instead of punishing or deterring him, the world becomes a partner in the crime.

Disarming Assad’s chemical weapons won’t end the siege. Dying due to stravation is more painful than dying due to bullets and gas.

The campaign to mobilize the international opinion to break the seige:

After months of the imposed siege on including the City of Homs, south of Damascus, eastern Ghouta and large areas of the western Ghouta, people are being deprived of the basics of life’s basic necessities, including food, water, medicine and even mobility.

Targetted Categories:

This campaign targets the international opinion in the first place and uses English as a basic language, and the Arab public opinion in the second place.

• Conveyed Message: Assad regime is held responsible for besieging hundreds of thousands of people through deploying military vehicles, soldiers and checkpoints that prevent the mobility of food and people. The International Community is also held responsible for being incapable of protecting human rights, the first of which in the UN Charter is the right of living.

• Sought Results: Issuing an international resolution, similar to the once recently issued to disarm the chemical weapons, that obliges Assad open secure crossings to deliver food to civilians under the supervision of international humanitarian organizations.

• Tools: Media and political mobilization to spread knowledge about the suffering of Syrian people, in addition to issuing decisions and resolutions to break the siege.

• Politically: Forwarding a letter about the aim of the campaign to plitical figures like the UN Secretary General. Assembeling decisions supportive to the campaign from Syrian and non-Syrian individuals and politicians.

• At the media level: Spreading information via the internet that would reveal the amount of humanitarian targedy in photos, figures and live testimonies
