Cont….
Paired Bilingual Education:In paired bilingual models, children are taught reading or other subjects in both their native language and in English, usually at different times of the day. Two-way Bilingual Education:Students (LEP) are taught English and other language , for example, Spanish. Students with English proficiency are expected to learn Spanish while those with strong grip on Spanish are expected to learn English
Teaching English as Second Language
Speak clearly, naturally Get to know the students teacher may use diagram and charts using records and video tapes Read written directions out loud Allow time for translation
Importance of Individual Differences
Two liters of hydrogen that are treated identically respond identically, but any two human beings, even identical twins, may respond quite differently to the same stimulus. This is because people differ from one another not only in appearance (that is, physically) but also in their behavior (that is, psychologically).
Embracing Diversity Meeting each student’s needs individually and successfully differentiate between equality and fairness Examine how learners differ Consider the different ways in which teachers can take account these differences
Respecting Diversity
Key is to regard each person as a unique individual
Every individual adopts beliefs and forms patterns of behavior based on culture, life experiences, spirituality and religion
Beliefs may change based on new exposures and experiences
Must be aware of the needs of each individual in order to provide care
