I. INTRODUCTION
INDIRA GANDHI MEDICAL COLLEGE & RESEARCH INSTITUTE (IGMC&RI) has been
established by the Government of Puducherry as an institute of Government sponsored
society and is administered by a duly constituted Governing Body headed by the Chief
Secretary, Government of Puducherry as the Chairman and the Secretary (Health) as the Vice
Chairman.
The Institute is located in 38 acres of land in Vazhudavur Road, Kathirkamam,
Puducherry. Puducherry is connected to Chennai which is 160 Kms. away from Puducherry.
Chennai is having an International airport and Puducherry is connected with Chennai by road
via East coast road along the Bay of Bengal or National highway 45 from Chennai to
Tindivanam and by National Highway 66 from Tindivanam to Puducherry. It is also connected
by National Highway 45A from Villupuram junction which is 40 Kms. from Puducherry.
Puducherry is connected by train from Egmore Railway station, Chennai.
The institute has a college block consisting of five floors.
The Hospital is functioning in a separate adjacent block with a sanctioned strength of
750 beds.
There are four hostel blocks each consisting of 104 rooms with 19 bath attached
rooms and 85 double rooms which can be used for single occupancy also. A separate mess is
available for hostel students.
The Medical Council of India recognized and permitted to admit 150 students for VIII
Batch of MBBS and the Institute is affiliated to Pondicherry University which is a Central
University established under an Act of Parliament. The institute is having a spacious Library in
5 storey building with 11,000 books and subscribing 70 Indian journals and 30 foreign journals
apart from 40 computer terminals with internet facility.

The guidelines for NRI /NRI sponsored / OCI: admission are as follows:
An NRI student is one who has NRI status. Students who have studied their qualifying
examination equivalent to 10+2 of India, from schools or colleges abroad (outside India) will
also be considered as NRI student.
Candidates should fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria to seek admission under Non
Resident Indians (NRI) Category. The seats under NRI quota should be utilized by the children
or wards of Bonafide NRI’s only. It may be noted that the admission procedure, application
form and fees are different from the domestic students.
1. As per the GO(MS) No.243/2014/H&FWD dated 06.08.2014 “An Applicant who
depends upon his/her Father/Mother/Brother/Sisters (inclusive of first cousins) /
Husband /Wife/ Brother and Sisters (inclusive of first cousins) of Father or Mother
/ Half Brother/Half Sister / Adopted Father or Adopted Mother or guardian
(declared as the guardian of the candidate by the court as per provisions in ‘The
Guardian and Wards Act, 1890”) who is working abroad, will only be eligible to
apply in the NRI category seats. Further, the Candidate should be of Indian origin
settled in Foreign (OR) Candidate born in a foreign country and whose parents are
of Indian citizen deputed abroad by Public Sector Undertaking (OR) Child of the
Official of the Central / State Government on deputation abroad shall fall under
the NRI category. This is subject to further orders, if any, from Government,
regarding the matter.

2. The candidate himself/herself should produce the proof for NRI Overseas
Citizenship India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) or child of NRI/OCI/PIO with
current year NRI certificate issued from the Indian embassy of concerned country
along with valid passport and visa copies.
3. The candidate should have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December
of the year of admission.
4. Candidate seeking admission to MBBS course under NRI Quota should have, at first
attempt, passed H.SC, Examination (10+2 pattern / equivalent) and must have
taken courses in Biology Physics and Chemistry English should be one of the
subjects in the qualifying examination. And obtained minimum of marks at 50th
percentile in ‘National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test to MBBS course’ held for the
said academic year.
5. The candidate should have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in Biology or Botany
and Zoology taken together and a minimum of 50% marks each in Physics and
Chemistry Admissions are done on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying
examination Wherever grades like A,B-C+, etc. are used by the issuing school,
appropriate equivalence in terms of percentage like 90%, 75% and 60% should be
made available. Rounding off of the percentage of marks to the nearest whole
number is not permitted.
6. Candidates with foreign qualifications will have to obtain the ‘Equivalence
Certificate’ from Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi who will equate
their qualifications as equivalent to the 10+2 of India. This certificate will have to
be submitted at the time of counselling.
7. The admissions made are provisional and subject to approval by the Pondicherry
University, Puducherry and Medical Council of India, New Delhi.
Process of application and admission:
Down load the application form the website (www.igmcri.com) and attach the
following documents after filling the required details (whichever applicable): 1) NEET exam 2017 qualified certificate 2) Marks card / transcript of the qualifying examination (English Translated) 3) Birth certificate or Proof of certificate for date of birth. 4) Copy of passport and VISA to enter the Country (Student VISA, PIO or OCI CARD) 5) Proof of NRI status of student / Sponcer 6) Numerical grade (equivalence) certificate of the qualifying examination. 7) Recent passport size colour photograph (Two Nos.)
8) Sponsor’s postcard size photograph – one (colour) 9) Certificate showing the proof for blood relationship for NRI sponsored candidate.
Application fee of US $ 200 (or equivalent in INR on the day of application) in the form of
a DD/ banker’s cheque drawn in any Nationalized Bank in favour of “The Director, Indira Gandhi
Medical College & Research Institute, Puducherry”, payable at Puducherry (OR) transfer through
net banking to Indian Overseas Bank, Kadhirkamam Branch, Account No: 322001000001111,
M/S Students deposits-IGMCRI, IFSC: IOBA0003220, MICR: 605020038 with a copy of the transfer
details including candidate’s Name. The filled in application along with the necessary documents
should reach The Convenor, CENTAC, Kalapet, Puducherry, 605014, India.

Fees: (except caution deposit) once paid shall not be refunded. The university fees,
examination fees and other fees levied are to be paid separately.
The following certificates should be produced by the selected candidates whichever/
wherever applicable at the time of counselling:
1) 12th grade or equivalent qualifying mark sheet.
2) NEET Exam 2017 qualified certificate.
3) Birth certificate.
4) Conduct certificate from the school last studied.
5) Photocopies of the first page of the passport with the photograph and also the visa to enter
the country (Student visa, PIO Card or OCI card) – wherever/ whichever applicable.
6) High school diploma certificate.
7) Accreditation certificate.
8) Recent passport size colour photograph (Two Nos.) 9) Sponsor postcard size photograph – one (colour).
10) Certificate showing the proof for blood relationship of the sponsor for NRI sponsored
candidate.
11) Proof of NRI status of student/sponsor.
12) Selected candidates have to sign an agreement bond.
