Unstoppable Young Women’s Retreat (July 20 and 21)
There are still spaces in the 20 allotted for those young women (ages 14-25) at
Olmsted Manor Retreat Center. Using money from the Katie Parish Scholarship
Fund, the cost to attend is $0.00 for young women. The building they will call
home at Olmsted is the Mansion – fun to live in and explore! The presenter and
facilitator is Rev Dr. Renee Mikell, Assistant to the Bishop – Theme: Developing
an Outward Mindset. A hike to a waterfall in the National Forest will put
participants in touch with God through Nature. A hands-on service project at
the Ruth M Smith Center Sunday afternoon will give them a bit of time to serve
together. Young women can learn more about the retreat or register online on
Olmsted Manor’s Unstoppable Retreat page or simply register by calling Olmsted
Manor (814-945-6512). Check out unstoppable on Facebook
(www.facebook.com/umwunstoppable/) or their webpage
(https://wpaunstoppable.weebly.com/ -both efforts created by unstoppable
young women). Participants don’t have to be United Methodist.
A Thank You
Dear Friend,
We would like to express our sincere thanks for your donation to the Ruth

community.
Donations, along with matching funds, totaled $21,531, a sum approximately
$10,000 more than last year!
We appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Time for a Check-Up! When you're getting set for fall ministries or
building your church budget for 2020, be sure to do a check-up of your
building. An annual building check-up can prevent small maintenance issues
from becoming major. The Academy of Church Business Administrators
offers a checklist. Download building checklist.
Tell Stories through Photos: Without a story as its foundation, a
photograph fails. “Capturing a telling moment of human interaction is what
it's all about," writes UM News photographer Mike DuBose. He gives some
tips on how to position yourself to be ready when those moments come
your way. See photos and learn more.
Start Using Video! UM Communications offers six easy steps to get
started and help you make the most out of any church video — from
worship services to bake sales promotions. Get your messages out to a
larger audience for greater impact. There's no better way to connect,
especially online. See how.
Faith and Facts cards are a set of half-sheet cards providing concise
information on a number of social issues. They explore what the Bible says,
what The United Methodist Church says, some facts about the issue and
action steps to address it. The General Board of Church and Society, the
UMC social justice agency, produces the cards and other resources.

Outward Mindset” and will be led by Rev. Renee Mikell, Assistant to the Bishop in
Western Pennsylvania. She enjoys travel and is passionate about intergenerational
experiences. This retreat will be an opportunity for young women to reflect on
ourselves and our communities and improve leadership skills. At this event,
young women will discuss what it means to have an “outward mindset” in our
respective contexts. We will imagine how such a mindset can impact ourselves
and our community. The retreat will include time to reflect, relax, and engage
with other young Christian women. We will also work with the Ruth M. Smith
Center on Sunday, a local National Mission Institute, to ensure their facility meets
their needs. At Unstoppable, we share our passions, hopes and visions. We listen
