But a study on employee intentions for the current fiscal year has shown that a higher percentage of women (73%) as compared to men (68%) speak up and ask for clear career progression.What also points towards India Inc's gradual move towards offering equal opportunities at work is that there isn't much difference between men and women on promotions in the last two years -50% of males and 46% of females. The report is based on online survey responses and insights gleaned from conversations with a large range of professionals. The study was carried out by global specialist recruitment firm Michael Page India. Professionals holding positions ranging from entry level to senior management were also consulted. Industry experts said there is a growing trend of women employees becoming more explicit about their aspirations at the workplace. Anuranjita Kumar, chief HR officer, Citi South Asia, said, Women are increasingly looking at their careers with a longer-term lens and are hence becoming more vocal not only about how they would like to be rewarded and recognized, but also about the wideranging contributions that they can and do make at work. The trend is more evident in junior to mid-level talent, whilst there is yet some distance to be covered at senior levels. This has also resulted in the percentage of women employees inching up for some.At Citi, the percentage of women in the management team and in senior positions has moved up to 29% in 2014 from 7% in 2012. Some firms have done away with gender identification in processes involving salaries. At ZS, for instance, the pay raise computation sheets do not capture gender in any column. L'Oreal, which globally focuses on hiring more men to build a better balance as it currently has more women employees, follows the practice of applying diversity lens in its talent management process and building on the individual through customized development plans. The company also has a philosophy of equal pay for equivalent job and conducts internal audits to assess and improve this balance wherever required, said Mohit James, director, HR, L'Oreal India. According to the `Global Gender Gap Report 2014' by the World Economic Forum, it will take 81 years for the world before the economic gender gap is closed completely . Implementation of diversity policies in India is still at a nascent stage, said Sebastien Hampartzoumian, senior MD, PageGroup Singapore and India. The report talks about male employees being more aggressive than their female counterparts when seeking salary increases to change jobs, with 35% of men expecting a raise of over 26% as compared with 21% of females who expect the same. However, there is a slight variation in male and female preferences, with females more likely to value company brand and reputation than salary (52% as compared with 48%).
