CEMETERY PROJECT UNDERWAY The Donegal Society voted at its Executive Board meeting in October to begin a project pertaining to the cemetery. This particular project involves some form of permanently marking the deteriorating tombstones in the older part of the cemetery. The Advanced Placement History class from Donegal High School met with Mary Karnes and Althea Johnson recently at the church to discuss the project. Since The Society is applying for a grant from The History Channel, a rather rigid time line is in effect. The students will be doing research on those persons buried in selected grave sites. Their goal is to gather as much information about the individuals as possible. The results will be written up and added to The Donegal Society archives as resource material for the many requests received from people researching their roots. The principal, teacher, and students seem very excited and interested in the project. Even if funding from the grant is not received, The Society plans on proceeding with the project on a more limited basis and over a longer period of time. CEMETERY PROJECT UNDERWAY

The Donegal Society voted at its Executive Board meeting in October to begin a project

pertaining to the cemetery. This particular project involves some form of permanently marking

the deteriorating tombstones in the older part of the cemetery. The Advanced Placement History class from Donegal High School met with Mary Karnes and Althea Johnson recently at the

church to discuss the project. Since The Society is applying for a grant from The History

Channel, a rather rigid time line is in effect. The students will be doing research on those persons buried in selected grave sites. Their goal is to gather as much information about the individuals

as possible. The results will be written up and added to The Donegal Society archives as resource

material for the many requests received from people researching their roots.

The principal, teacher, and students seem very excited and interested in the project.

Even if funding from the grant is not received, The Society plans on proceeding with the project on a more limited basis and over a longer period of time. Updates on the progress of this

undertaking will be in future issues of “The Witness.”

Althea Johnson, President of The Donegal Society
