7. Handmade silk charmeuse quilt!           Value: $1,450 

                                    

           

  Britt  Rynearson  has  dedicated  15  years  to  the  art  of Japanese arashi shibori and has brought all of that skill to creating  this  silk  charmeuse  quilt. The  fabric  is hand‐dyed and hand‐pleated, and the quilt has a silk‐linen backing and trim. Britt has created a  limited number of original shibori quilts  for  collectors  nationwide  and  has  had  her  own fashion  line,  ARAE,  since  2003.  Her  textile  art  has  been featured at the Smithsonian Craft Show in DC, Takashimaya in  Manhattan,  and  the  Philadelphia  Museum  Craft Show.   She  also  inspires  others  by  sharing  her  skills  and talents  at  Gage  Academy  and  Cornish  College  of  the Arts.  We at Coyote consider ourselves very  lucky  to have had Britt teaching our kids Fashion Design since 2008.

Michael  Spafford’s  12  Labors  of  Hercules  were  murals commissioned  for  the Washington  State House, where they  sparked  controversy  that  led  to  their  removal  in 1987,  prompting  great  protest.    A  subsequent collaborative  photo  and  woodblock  work  entitled  “36 views of the 12 Labors of Hercules in Washington State” was  completed  in  2011  by  Spafford with  his  son,  Spike Mafford, a photographer.       Spike has had solo exhibits of  his  photography  in  Seattle  at  the  Francine  Seders Gallery,  Harborview  Medical  Center,  and  many  other local  venues,  and  at  the Museo de Sitio Casa  Juarez  in Oaxaca, Mexico.

 19.  Tibetan rugs by Liz Gamberg and                     Young Coyote Artists!

      Artist  Liz  Gamberg  collaborated  with  six  young  Coyote artists  to  design  these  two  elegant  rugs  for  Coyote’s auction.   Through exercises  in color and collage with both geometric and organic shapes, each youth created a design of her own and the group collaborated on a design for the border.  The rug designs were then realized in wool by fair‐trade Tibetan artisans in Nepal who hand‐knotted 80 knots per square inch to create a luxurious thick pile.  Liz brought her own exquisite palette and design sense to the project. Recent  exhibits  of  her work  in  the  Northwest  include  a juried  show  in  Tieton, WA  and  100  Artists  Shows  at  the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery in Salem, Oregon.
