A hot water tank should have the pressure release valve testedonceperyearandflushedonceperyear.Whenflushingthewatertank,thepowermustbeturnedoff.Thisisdoneuntilthewaterrunsclearofthesedimentatthebottomofthetank.
Hotwatertankreplacementisevery10-12years.MostinsurerswillnotcoverfloodingfromaleakingHWTolderthan10-12years.
VisiblerustisthesigntheHWTisgoing.
AHWTpanisnecessary.Ifnoneexists,makesureitisincluded when you change the HWT (metal touching the concrete will corrode your HWT quicker than if you have thepan).
