In general, bored piles offer the most economical foundation as they can be constructed in a wide choice of

diameters, typically ranging from 300mm to 1800mm, and to depths of up to 70m at rakes of up to 1:4.

They can thus be tailored precisely to the particular requirements of the building or excavation. This

flexibility means that bored piles can provide solid foundation elements suitable for almost all site

conditions.

Bored piles can be classified into two main groups, according to their load bearing behavior: friction piles,

which transfer loads mainly by frictional resistance along the shaft; and end bearing piles in which load is

primarily transferred to the surrounding soil of through the pile base.

Depending on the structural requirements, bored piles may be constructed singly, in groups or as walls

using secant, contiguous or king piles, with or without infill.

Helical Piles (Screw piles)

A helical anchor/pile is an extendable deep foundation system with helical bearing plates welded to a

central steel shaft. Load is transferred from the shaft to the soil through these bearing plates.

Helices can be press-formed to a specified pitch or simply consist of flat plates welded at a specified pitch

to the pile's shaft. The number of helices, their diameters and position on the pile shaft as well as steel

plate thickness are all determined by a combination of:

1) The combined structure design load requirement.

2) The geotechnical parameters.

3) Environmental corrosion parameters.

4) The minimum design life of the structure being supported or restrained

Micro piles are described as small diameter pile that can be installed in almost any type of soil and that

can carry loads up to 500 tones depending on the type of it.

Micro piles are widely used in the construction field because of the low vibration and no noise; they are

widely used in housing areas, schools, hospitals or any locations which doesn’t allow making noise while

pile driving process. They have high carrying capacity, less site constraint problems and can be designed

to have very low settlements. Also, Micro piles are used to stabilize or upgrade existing foundation by

installing them through pre-drilled holes determined by load characteristics.

Micro piles are steel reinforced placed into a small diameter hole and scaled to the ground by grout

injections under relatively high pressure.

Dewatering

Deep wells.

The Deep Well System is also a versatile predrainage dewatering system which can pump high and low

volumes of groundwater. This method is best suited to homogeneous aquifers that extend well below the

bottom of the excavation. Deep well systems consist of one or more individual wells, each of which has

its own submersible pump at the bottom of the well.

Advantages:

- Ability to penetrate strata impervious to the jetting method of well point systems.

- Capable of pumping tens to thousands of gallons per minute per well.

- Deep Wells can be effective when placed outside of the jobsite work area.

Deep well dewatering systems are used when large volumes of groundwater must be pumped, highly

permeable soils result in rapid recharging of the aquifer, and/or the depth of excavation excludes other

dewatering methods.

Soil Grouting.

The main categories of injection grouting available are:

Permeation Grouting

Grout filling of accessible pores between the solid particles in a permeable soil. This technique is

generally used to reduce permeability and/or to strengthen and stiffen the ground.

Hydro Fracture Grouting

Involves the deliberate fracturing of the soil or rock by grout under pressure. The resulting compaction

and stiffening of the rock or soil mass can, in appropriate conditions, provide ground improvement where

permeation grouting is not practicable.

Compensation Grouting

An active technique to mitigate settlement arising from other engineering works (such as tunnel

excavation) in order to provide protection to existing structures. Compensation grouting can take the form

of permeation, compaction, or hydro fracture grouting depending on the local conditions of the given

project.

Compaction grouting

The injection of stiff mortar or paste instead of grout to displace and compact the soil in situ, thus

improving its engineering characteristics.

Rock Grouting

Grout infilling of discontinuities, fissures, fractures or joints in mass rock with the intention of reducing

permeability and increasing the competence of the mass rock. This technique is particularly employed for

dam construction and tunneling.

via a Tube a Manchette (TAM), packer injection direct into rock, descending / ascending, stage
